There has been a very noticeable decline in people over the last 10-15 yrs, complete lack of general knowledge, yet retaining the ability to complain furiously before thinking.

Just had this happen:
A text to cancel call for dishwasher at 7.30 tomorrow morning.
He’s spent all weekend fixing it so he dosen’t need me.😡
I sent him a reply thanking him for messing up my day & for also losing me a job I could have put in his place.
I think I feel a bit less annoyed now??Grrrrrr!

Thats the really annoying thing about late cancellers. They haven’t a clue how much it has cost you. Must say I’ve been less than pleasant with a few on the phone recently…the last one cancelled five minutes into the call slot when the job had been booked for three days 👿

Late canceller really hack me off, but it’s better than not being cancelled at all and turning up….
Now what is really bugging me is:
A call last week: Rather well to do couple, having their new (but rather old) house done up by builders. Sorted out thier badly plumbed washing machine and then was pointed to a vacuum cleaner. Their builder had “borrowed” their Miele TT5000. To cut a long story short, it was choked to death, both filters clogged, bag over full and machine full of dirt and grit. I took a dust filter from their new bag box (they’d never actually changed one). Took machine away, stripped, cleaned, sourced and fitted new exhaust filter. As good as new.
Returned it a couple of days later. Showed them how to change dust filter every five bags and explained the perils of letting builders use their cleaner. 🙂
I walk out to the car, write out the receipt and return to give them the receipt and I hear the cleaner going. Unbeleiveably being used by the same builder who used it last week. I bit my tougue, felt the cash in my pocket, left some cards and bid them good day.

Why is it that when they don’t get what they want they instantaneously turn into barrack room layers?
“Not fit for purpose…”
“Under the Sale of Good Act you have to (or must do)…”
“I know my rights…”
“You have contract that says you have to do this…”
And that classic line that sends shivers of fear down everyone’s back…
“I will now contact trading standards and see how they wish to proceed with my complaint.”
Or…
“I’m reporting you to Watchdog…”
Uh huh. So who’s liable to know more about consumer legislation, the customer or the person running a business? 😉
You know, you do your best to make them happy but, some days I just want an Uzi and amnesty from the results.

Reminds me of years ago when working for Hotpoint in Landan. The number of people who’s brother, cousin, friends auntie worked at The Soaraway Sun was Staggering 😉

Once when I was working for someone else a few years back, I had a guy complaining to me on the phone who then asked me to wait a sec whilst he sorted the tape recorder so he could play it back to his mum who was a magistrate.
I waited patiently till he sorted it (took a couple of minutes) then asked him if he was ready, then told him I had nothing to say and hung up 🙂
He never called back…November 18, 2011 at 9:27 am #107961cornwell40

Customoaner stood over me to watch the whole of a WM52 bearing job. Must admit though I took great pleasure in making the job look a tougher one than it was and grunting, and calling the ‘bearing’ names as it came out. I
I’d diagnosed the bearing as noisy six weeks before and inbetween times he’d fitted a door seal to the machine. On getting back I assumed the ripped (sliced) seal would be the drum movement but it turned out that the rear top spring had gone, pushing the seal into the drum.
When I’d finished he mentioned that Hotpoint had agreed to take the damaged seal back as he’d only got it three weeks before. Lets say I put him straight on that one 😉Tony

One that really used to bug me, clients having the front door open and standing in doorway before I’d got out of the vehicle.
This got worse with the intro of mobiles being illegal to use whilst driving, so I’d pull up, front door would be open and I’d be ringing a client back leaving them standing there waiting impatiently for my not so impending arrival.
Had one guy stand by my door the whole time and then followed me around to the side door for my tools.
Knobs.

A woman who has rung me before ….very plummy, horsey type with no common sense….likes to tell you all about her mother and fathers health problems etc, insists on keeping you hanging on the service line everytime she rings because she’s never prepared with make, model etc. I just saw my a*se and hung up this time. Last time she called I waited and had her stories for 15 minutes 👿

normally old couples come away with it” have you came far we thought maybe Birmingham as thats where the call centre is ”
you then feel obliged to explain how the service network works ?

rowenta iron, 2 months old, “what to do if somethings gone wrong” card in instructions, with step by step aftersales advice. (call rowenta, authorise cust pickup, and repair)… so cust walks into shop asks for refund as theres an electrical smell. refuses to leave without a refund, no inference they want an exchange. then the words that strike fear “my husbands a solicitor and i know my rights, sales of goods act AMMENDED states is a product is under 6 months blah blah. so my colleague hastily refunds the whole amount, there and then. i get back, take one look and notice the dent in the soleplate and think, dropped. they also did but because of the customers bravado, didnt mention it. fact is she told my colleague that we had to prove that hte product was by faulty by misuse, but didnt give her a chance to prove it, instead, essentially verbally bullied her into giving a refund before any investigation could be undertaken. fortunately rowenta issued an uplift, but still, in this day and age, that “consumer protection” attitude could be applied to using goods for free, for a lifetime, if you had the balls to be as beligerantly sh!tty as this cust had been. out of interest how would anyone else have handled it, if you told them you couldnt give a refund immediately, because it needed checking, and cust got insistant???

It is perfectly reasonable to insist that the goods are left with the seller (or sent to the manufacturer) to enable them to be examined, in order to determine the nature and cause of failure. They can only insist on a refund withn a “reasonable” time from the time of sale, not defined in law but generally considered to be within a few days or up to a month from point of sale. After that, they are only entitled to the cost of repair or replacement (at the seller’s option).
That’s the theory anyway, doesn’t help in dealing with a customer who’s shouting at you demanding a refund in the shop.
