Only ever been bitten by one dog in all the year’s I’ve been doing this and it was actually an old womans border collie no warning at all just came up to me and clamped its jaw on my forearm as I was leaning down to the washer the old dear nearly died on the spot and I ended up having to call her daughter to come around to calm her down!!

Must have ben bitten 7 or 8 times in 45 years, when working for Lux they would prosecute if you wanted but I never did. Although the expletives I used to the some of the owners might have got me in trouble in court.
Had an engineer confronted by a dog at the door in a stand off and he, finishing off a fag poked the lighted end on it’s nose, much yelping and the owner arrived put 2+2 together and all hell broke loose. I think Lux settled the vets bill, cracking laugh was had by all staff, still makes me smile!
I’m fairly tolerant with dogs it’s the stupid owners are the problem.
“He just wants to say hello” talking dog then? can’t even say sausages himself!

Ha, ha I think I am more surprised that the engineer arrived at the front door smoking a fag than him poking it out on the dogs nose! 😆

If you choose this profession, working in people’s homes, you have to realise that approaching 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of households have dogs, and in the vast majority of those households, much like kids, the dogs are an integral part of the family.

If you get the opportunity, it is well worth taking the time to greet the dogs, as the majority will lose interest after 30 seconds and pretty much leave you alone. In time, you will learn how to judge the character of the dog and respond appropriately. Any aggressive actions towards the dog are likely to be counterproductive.

A minority of dogs, particularly youngsters, will not leave you alone, jumping up, licking, or even “mouthing”. That is the time to ask the owner politely to shut them away. If you really don’t like dogs, make this request when you arrive.

On average I probably meet around 2 or 3 dogs a day, and in 8 years of doing this job I can only remember two homes where I was slightly nervous. In one there were a male and female Presa Canario – the male was shut in the garden and the female on heat very firmly instructed to stay in its bed two yards from me as I lay on the floor repairing an integrated Smeg washer/dryer. In the other a German Shephard and Rottweiler were in a large utility room behind a child stair gate as I worked on the dishwasher in the kitchen. These dogs were under firm instruction of the dog owners to stay put and I was advised that it would not be a good idea for me to greet them.

Tbh I have more problems with young kids than dogs. Little hands in everything despite me telling the parent that there are sharp tools in my case

If I take the trouble to turn out smart and clean every day I don’t expect to be a flea infested dog kennel of a house/kitchen.
Find myself coming out of houses and checking if the stink has stuck, cos, you go to the next house with a dog and he likes the smell of you.
Dogs are working animals and most breeds are not suitable for pets, why would you have a Husky or St Bernard in our climate many other breeds fall into the same problem, like 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of four wheel drive that never go off road.
Why do folks have them when they are out all day at work? Problem is they have become like fashion items thanks to Crufts & Co.

I love my little bishon, but even she is placed in her cage when someone calls.

As for s88t holes l had to visit a pub in Hereford. From the outside it looked like a location from Snatch film. Inside the healthiest looking person looked like they had liver failure. Been in many pubs upstairs never really look homely but i’ve never come across a hoarder as a landlord. The carpets had a black coating on top of the pile. The kitchen was horrendous, worse i’ve seen in many yrs.

When a customer phones to cancel a call and tries to make out their doing you a favour by letting you know they are cancelling.

‘I thought I’d phone to save you a wasted journey’.

    How noble of them.

A bit like when they say, “I’m sorry to have wasted your time”, when it turns out to be something trivial or user error. (I don’t mind, I still get my minimum call out charge.)

At least it’s better than those who agree to a repair estimate then when presented with the bill say grudgingly “Oh well, I suppose it’s cheaper than a new machine.”

When they say ( whilst you’re doing the repair you quoted for and haven’t left any spare time ) can I pick you’re brain and have a look at my dishwasher, cooker and fridge whilst you’re here
