    Re: Condenser Dryer with sensor

    Hi,

I’ve actually got a CTD 85 (identical to the CTD 80, only silver!) – got mine for £285 from a local store.

Hotpoint were hopeless in the run-up to even getting the machine (I documented my woes on my blog and have had several other customers in the same situation contact me!!!) – I paid for it in August 2004 and it didn’t arrive until three weeks ago!!! (I’d actually ordered the CTD80, but when i saw that the place I’d ordered it from had the CTD85 just arriving on the shop-floor as a display model I persuaded the manager to give me that one since I’d been waiting so long!)

In answer to your questions (only some though, it hasn’t gone wrong so don’t know what Hotpoint’s after-sales care is like but, based on their pre-sales care, I’m not expecting much!) the machine is very efficient at drying the clothes and the redesign (having the water tank in a tray at the top, just like in a washing machine) is much more convenient.

I’m a student, living with three other students, and the dryer is used at least once a day and being able to use the ‘Set and Forget’ programmes (whereby it senses that the clothes are dry) is good for our electricity bills! Also the delicates cycle is handy for drying non-tumble-dryable items when you can’t be bothered with hanging things all over the place like a Chinese laundry! It’s being put through it’s paces and is sticking up well!

However, it is incredibly noisy – think Harrier Jump Jet and add a few decibels…!!!

Re: Domestic Appliance Horror Stories ?

And another Merloni horror story. We had a Hotpoint freezer and dishwasher go wrong at the same time. Merloni engineer came and said he would have to order a new part for the freezer and could not repair the dishwasher so we would get a replacement as the washer was still under guarantee. He assured me that both would be dealt with at the same time. Engineer No. 2 knew turned up without either the spare part or the replacement dishwasher, but did manage to repair the freezer. Which meant that Merloni should have refunded the first call out fee but of course we are still waiting. Engineer No. 3 turned up without a replacement dishwasher. Every time, of course, I had to phone to chase up what was happening, and every time it took at least 40 minutes to get through to their Customer Couldn’t Care Less Department. After I created hell they phoned before Christmas to say a new dishwasher was on order but wasn’t in stock – this was one advertised as being in their current range. A month later I got a card on a Friday saying the new one would be installed the following Monday. I phoned to rearrange this but, of course, the following Monday got home to find a card from Merloni saying they had called and I wasn’t in. Finally they did turn up with the washer but, surprise surprise, the delivery men said they had no instructions to install it. When I phoned yet again, they agreed reluctantly to arrange installation, but only after a five delay delay, and yet again they couldn’t arrange a delivery time. They couldn’t give any good reason why they couldn’t ensure a time by putting us first on the list; nor, of course, would they contemplate subcontracting to someone local who might be more efficient. After being heavily pressurised they have offered the princely sum of – wait for it – £10 as compensation.

I have asked them if they can offer any good reason why I or anyone else should ever buy Hotpoint or Indesit again. I don’t expect a response.

    hi,

Simon there are 2 drain pumps….
The diference is one has twin pipe connections the same size and the other twin pipe connections of different diameters.

The model numbers are found by lifting the lid and look along the rear exposed edge of the cabinet. Close the lid and it covers up the inscriptions.

    Cheers Dave

I thought it may be a surge too, but the inline fuses in the control unit appear to be intact.

I’ve read the manaul and no ideas offered for situations where you lose power.

Called several engineers from the local thomson directory and no one appears to of worked on LG, so they seem reluctant to come along. LG themselves can send an engineer but they charge £65 c/out which inc. 15 minutes of their time and therafter, £20 for every 15 mins! …. £80 p/hr!!!

I’ve switched it off now and will wait 36 hrs, as I saw another thread on LG where an owner had power problems and leaving it off for 36 hrs seemed to do the trick (perhaps it resets itself?)

Re: Scandinova frost free freezer leaking from back to floor

The frost you see is caused by Liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor. This is very bad. Have you had this regassed recently?

The boil off of refrigerant into liquid should at all times be contained within the cabinet, as the liquid absorbs heat from within the cabinet it warms up and becomes a gas again (boyles law), return pipes should not therefore freeze over.

The liquid return to the compressor will increase the oil/gas mix and you’ll be lucky to rescue this if R134a refrigerant.

You need a system engineer to this, quick if you are to salvage it.

    Re: “New” Coverplan

I have done some research into this and now have the story behind it.

The object is 2 day service, something many of us do “most” of the time. It comes at a cost to the customer and provides work for some.

There is definately a different view, depending on who you work for.

By that manufacturer service has to do 2 day service (in guarantee) or loose the job to a.n.other if a.n.other can take the call.

Any one wanting a full explanation will have to wait for Sibson unless you know my mobile number, its extra work for some if manufacturer service is not up to scratch, on Coverplan sold product only.

I for one think this is going to be positive to my business.

    Re: stat details needed

you need to wire the stat on 4 and 6 not 3. 3 is the light/defrost heater position on the universal stat, if you are using this it will not switch off.
