Re: Putting a Freezer in the shed

Normally no problem if simply a chest freezer.

The biggest enemy though is damp! Condensation can be a problem resulting in rust on the cabinet or saturation of the insulating foam.

Another consideration is some upright freezers have the thermostat in the fascia at the top. To allow space they have a “well” in the foam and this can fill with water under certain ambient conditions, leading to allsorts of problems.

If you are talking of a no whistles and bells chest freezer with the controls at the bottom the performance should be o.k.

In Flips defence, I concur and am only too aware why he is reticent at times.

One thing I applaud him for, he attends every meeting and I know he takes an avid interest in the site. We could do with more of these large agents with his background.

I am well aware of the culture that some of us live under, and at times we are on thin ice. I’m trying to say this in a guarded manner, but I would like to think you all know why on occasions we have to keep our heads down.

    Re: A Word Of Thanks…

    A word of thanks indeed.

Ken and the team that arranged the seminar are to be thanked. It seems we may have outgrown the location, but we are assured there are expansion plans at Millers, and they are prepared to let us use the Dining Room for any future conferences should we require more space.

The meal provided for the day was first class, and it was a shame we could not eat it all. Maybe next time we will look at asking confirmation regards those who choose to say for lunch. If anyone didn’t get to stay for food, you missed a treat.

I also would like to thank those that were able to make it who were representing the work providers and manufacturers. It was very encouraging to see the support and indeed the input generated by all of the above. It was good to be able to put faces to names, and I hope this support will continue on future meetings.

The weather forecast was terrible, and may have been the reason there were some “no-shows”. Never-the-less, those who made it I’m sure will agree it was a very informative and progressive couple of days.

Regards the tales of excess on the alcohol front, It wasn’t quite as you might think. We were not there as a glorified p**s up and we continued the discussions quite lucidly and sensibly in the bar for a long time. Of course as the evening progressed the barriers came down a bit, and I think that session was as rewarding as the meeting earlier on the Friday.

I am looking forward to the next one in September, as long as it doesn’t clash with my holiday. If it does, maybe I can give a link for an idea of a venue in Northern Italy. Good hotel, overlooking a lake into Switzerland, and cheap wine.

    Ciao.

May need a bit more information.

Prima is sometimes a “Badge” name for a product unique to the kitchen company, and may be one of several manufacturers.

Take look and see if there is a production number, i.e. pnc 91100000-01

That may point us in the right direction.

Re: Zanussi Fridge Freezer defrosting on freezer

Is it in a cold room?

The freezer has no means of temperature regulation, it is all done from the temp on the rear plate of the fridge. Therefore if the room gets to below 12 deg. C for any length of time, poor freezer results.

The wiring.. Live in, usually black, Lead to compressor, usually brown, white lead to defrost heater situated on rear of fridge. Take a look under the thermostat housing and see if you have a little red switch, if so turn it on as that will decrease the switch off time and make the freezer more efficient when the room is cold.

The answer is a flat no. You need some form of “shut-off” to prevent accidental closure whilst the hob is still on.

    Re: European Pricing

One thing which is very noticeable across the channel:- They don’t have the sheds being the likes of Currys, Comet or even Argos B&Q etc. It just doesn’t seem to be in their culture. The nearest you might see is the odd Euronics (Electrodomestci). Otherwise they are in the high streets along with the fashion shops and Cafes etc. The delivery and even the repairs are handled by a guy in a tatty boiler suit, driving an old Citroen van looking like it is a chicken hut. The weird thing is, you can go into an industrial estate in Italy or France and find a brilliant Restaurant. I know of a Scottish Pub just outside Sussegano in Northern Italy, called the Inverness right in a redevelopment area. Real Ale in Pint Glasses as well as all the Whiskies you could ever think of. Even the clock is an hour slow. Menu is Italian though, no Haggis or Neeps & Tatties for example.

    I digress.

Go to Austria or Eastern Europe and the whole place is closed on a Sunday, some even on Saturday p.m. as well. The big boys have in my opinion assisted our 24 hour culture, but it must be said that may be customer driven. What I’m getting at is the manner of trading over here, which is stack-em high and bung-em out like pats of butter. We as consumers are price driven when it comes to purchases. Yet try buying a car in mainland Europe and there are still significant savings. The power of such trading levels forces the prices on the shop floor.

    Rant over, work to do.

    Fantastic.

If this cold weather keeps up we shall have a plentiful supply of ice to have a go at the real thing on Friday at Sibson.

Good. It is relevant for employers as well.

The rule change means that some form of “disclaimer” may be needed. Leave it to me.

As per the joke from Clyde. I’ve sent penguin a movie clip of that one. Believe me it is better on film.

Anyone who wants to see it send Mr P a p.m. with e-mail details.

Is it worth a little item on the new tax changes for “white van man”? The old P11d system ends this year.

I’m doing a little presentation for my engineers, and am quite willing to give a 5 minute presentation on Saturday as to what it entails for employed engineers.

If O.K. pop it on the agenda. 😀

    Re: funkyboogy

Had this over the weekend. Of course I cannot divulge the source.

Right, this is how it works; for every person an engineer refers and is then employed by BG he will receive £250 immediately and £250 once they have completed six months. Basic at the moment is £19900, plus £100 for each week you’re on standby. If you’re called out on your standby week they pay from the moment you leave the house till you return, then you get “sleep time”.

“Big city” engineers are allocated 10 jobs a day in a tight area and most are doing in excess of this. 5 and half completed jobs puts you into bonus situation. Jobs in excess of 10 puts you onto another bonus rate. Rural engineers are allocated varying amounts of calls.

BG parts supply is a “cock up”. The van stock issue for whitegoods engineers is a total mess. Duplication of some parts, no GC number on some and approximately 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} missing when issued as a start up. The issued tool kit is a joke and some of the test gear must have cost them all of £1. We are not allowed to use our own tools or test gear so instead of using my semi decent tools, I’ll have to use the crap they gave me, quite why I need a cordless hammer drill is a bit beyond me.

Whitegoods also do first line Home Electrics Care. Basically, reset alarms, change cracked or broken sockets/switches, fit cartridge fuses etc. Anything beyond basic DIY skills are marked off as completed and passed to the electricians. In effect, I can look at an electrical fault, decide it’s beyond my capabilities and be paid as though I’ve completed.

The “tracking” that is referred to is basically through the mobile telephone/computer terminal. You have to sign off each job as you complete it, if you don’t sign it off the system doesn’t allow you to bring up the next job. They then know that you’ve finished Job 1 and are either en-route or at job 2. It’s in the contract that some days you will finish before you have worked 7.4 hours and some days you will work more than 7.4 hours, no overtime is payable in these situations. (Remote area engineers will have all their jobs passed in 1 transmission as mobile reception varies between good and none so there will be occasions when a job can’t be signed off immediately).

It doesn’t take many days of failing to meet targets before you’re called in for a disciplinary meeting and we all know what pigs some machines can be to find intermittent faults on them.

Info on the computers, I’ve got more info than them on my computer and in paperwork, although they do have a technical support at BG. They are actively looking at buying out a manufacturer or buying a “name” to enable them to supply BG branded goods but I got the impression that this was a long way off. They regard postings on the UKW forum regards the release of any information about BG as a disciplinary offence.

So there you have it. I have asked if the bounty fee on offer is in writing, he says he’s never seen it, and his line manager was a bit cagey when he asked about it.

if they cant achieve bonus they must be in rural areas , or are not thinking/working smarter ………..what about all the big football clubs they attract all the young talent to, dont they

Note the time & day of his latest posting. If not on Holiday or thrown a sickie, how come a B/Gas engineer who is supposed to be on the road be on line at such a time of day?? He was logged in for nearly an hour.

I have a load of info about the B.Gas call logging regime and how they pay the bonus etc. as well as their rationale. Will get it together & pop it in heare sometime before Thursday if I can. Can’t do it afterwards, have a meeting to go to.

    Re: funkyboogy

Call me cynical if you like. Look at it another way.

You are a B.G. engineer and you are aware there is an incentive scheme to recruit new technicians, at £500 a shot. You don’t know of many prospective engineers, so you don’t pursue it. One day whilst browsing the net you stumble upon UKW. All of a sudden an idea hits you, “I’ll let out some info regards how bloody good B.G. are from an engineers point of view”. To ensure a bit of interest, I’ll stress the point “If you want to know more, I can tell you etc. i.e. “anybody that wants to know the nuts & bolts of B.Gas etc… just ask…

Do you see it? He comes upon us, tells it as it is supposed to be, then one or two engineers from other parts of the land read his postings and p.m. him. Bingo…. He passes the details forward and collects the payola. He doesn’t give a toss if they then take the appointment and find he was talking bollocks, he is not to be found and was not exactly a mate in the 1st place.

He only needs 4 engineers and his holiday in Benidorm and new wide screen telly is paid for.

Even if that wasn’t his agenda, it could so easily happen. I think we need to know more.

Iv’e just had a p.m. from a BG engineer, he tells me that if they are found browsing UKW they will be suject to a disciplinary hearing. Their training at Rotherham is known as “Brainwashing”. I will put up more on his post later, when I’ve got the time.

This guy is surely a plant. It doesn’t gel in my opinion.

Martin is concerned regards going off thread, at least the flaming blue one is under a different heading.

Anyway, I’ve put up a bit of a personal slag off post, so If he’s gen, he will defend himself.

Can we find out anything about him perhaps?
