The 1296 was a good machine, discontinued in about 1998. The bearings on that machine was a lot bigger than the bearings on the 1,000 spin machines you may have been reading about, consequently they last longer. If you have caught it early, you won’t need the drum spider just bearing kit and the drum (spaghetti) seal.

The other likely failures, assuming there has been a good history with no problems, door lock & recirculation pump and as Dave says brushes.

Re: Care 4 to cease trading

All Care4 agents should have received a pack from:

Home Hotline, The Unicentre. PRESTON PR1 1DH 0870-6002415.
    Contact name, Steve Hammond.

Interested parties will need an application form supported by copies of Vat, Liability Ins. & CORGI if applicable. Get this, they ask you what your charges are. Anyone interested I suggest you give them a call.

Existing Insurance work as the old Co-op policies will be undertaken by London General and Home Hotline dealing with the rest.

I hope Alan Chant from Care4 stays in this industry, as he is one of lifes gentlemen.

The advert hit the Western Daily press and the Bristol evening post at the end of last week I’ve been reliably informed.

A Merloni engineer told me last week that there are practically no Merloni/Hotpoint engineers at all in Wales. It seems they are having to cross the border from England just to keep up with the backlog.

It is just rumour though, unless anyone can confirm or second this.

That was near Nuneaton at Sibson. Stafford is due north of Birmingham about 40 miles further into the ‘Black Country’ 🙁

Stafford is a bit north of the black country. J13 or J14 M6. Just down from Stoke on Trent. Only a short bus ride if anyone who is now without a car wants to attend.

Italian GP at Monza, not Imola, that was the San Marino rained 5 hours night before & it was like Glastonbury. It is cheaper to Easy Jet to Italy than go to Silverstone. Went to the Ferrari museum at Marinello the day before the race whilst the qualifying was taking place. The Italians went quiet when Button qualified for pole position. On the subject of Glastonbury (even though the event is at Pilton), rain due for the next 3 days here, so that will dampen the enthusiasm a bit.

I know what you mean regards Shuey, I’m a Williams fan but am keeping an eye on Button as he is a local boy & used to share a grid with my Son-in-Law at Karting events.

The problem with the G.P. on telly is the best part of a bottle of wine with your Sunday lunch & have the sun blasting in the windows, guaranteed to send you away, especially with Shuey out in front. He’s as boring as Nigel Mansell.

I now have 2 weeks of Wimbledon which I will attempt to stay awake through as well.

It’s a hard life. In September though I’m in Killarney Ireland. No G.P. there I’m afraid. That is my reason for not being able to attend the meeting.

    Dave.

I can only find one version which uses the same motor which does both wash & drain. There are 2 versions of the same product number, but the part leads to the same in all cases.

£59.86 + Vat as well as p&p direct to you.

    NEW MOTORING LAW

In order to assist other motorists in identifying potentially dangerous
drivers, it’s now compulsory for anyone with a lower than average I.Q. or driving ability to display a warning flag, comprising of a red cross on a white background, attached to the top of at least one door of their vehicle.

For drivers of exceptionally low mental ability, additional flags will be required.

The above has been sent to me about 4 times today.

And Alex, EX14 ? The lovely Devon town of Honiton and it’s surrounding Hamlets, very interesting 😆

    Dave.

EX 14 is in our area, we cover quite an area for Service Force & the criteria I used to search was an AEG W/Machine. Had to be AEG as the area is too posh for the lower end of the market.

Dave is right that if you are new to D&G then it will take a bit of time to gain a rating, as it does come from feedback. It took us 3 years to get to 3 stars. I was pleasantly surprised to see we had crept up to 5 stars.

I hadn’t checked the site for ages.

Funnily enough we had a referral today, so it was a good time to check it out.

We have 5 stars in our own right, strangely Service Force has 4 stars, yet it is still us that would get the call as there is only the Service Force & our numbers that came up & the phone numbers for the p/code I entered are to our office.

When I’ve got a bit of time, I will browse a few other p/codes and see who’s out there. EX 14 is interesting.

Yes I remember the inception of U.K. Whitegoods.

I actually joined up on my Birthday, don’t bother with a card, (when you get to my age waking up in the morning is an achievement, getting up is a challenge).

We have seen a few changes in the industry & I hope some improvements. There is a long way to go but it is nice to have some recognition.

I suggest we do an annual “Birthday Honours list”

May I propose a Knighthood for The Right Honourable Mr Kenneth Watt. O.B.E’s for the Honourable Messers Heath & Conway. Do I hear anyone second these? There are some unsung heroes out there I will leave for the rest of you to mention, they may not be due a medal, but certainly some recognition.

Well done all of us I think. I will have a toast to the good health & wellbeing of this splendid site.

If you are the Chris I think you are from the Midlands, then I owe a favour for the supply & painless installation of my Father’s F/Freezer a year or so back.

If you can pop onto my website, fill out the parts request with the e-number and at the same time ask for a page copy of the pdf file, we will e-mail it to you.

Regards cost, give the spares line a ring, 01278-434978 and we will give you a bigger than normal discount off retail price. You may have to get them to confirm it with me 1st. We can get it to you straight from Distriparts overnight.

    Re: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!

Should this read, “Merloni Advertise Franchises”.

Having looked at the content of above, there is little I need to add to what has already been said. I’m intrigued if this is unique to South Yorkshire, or is this likely to be nation-wide, as it appears the service issues are in a greater area than Sheffield. There are colleagues of ours, and contributors to this forum, who are overstaffed due to the either the loss of NESN, or being victims of the Whirlpool pricing structure; some of which coincidentally are from that part of the country. If this is a local thing, it seems like the vultures may well be circling.

Has this come from the old GDA camp at Peterborough, or from ex Uxbridge management? This is very similar to the Uxbridge franchise scheme that has been well documented in the preceding pages. I do wonder if there are still franchisees out there on this old scheme? This is poles apart from the set up as we were agents, we took the call direct from the customer, right through to booking, organising parts, billing etc. We had to take all the flak as well as cope with the product and the unrealistic demands of their customers; we were the first in line. Bear in mind, this was an Ariston/Indesit product, and there was very little brand loyalty in the eyes of their customers. The head office managed all spare parts sales, and there was no room for add-ons such as gas or built in. In addition, there was practically no chargeable work on the machines, either because of no money or insurance cover.

Without going into too much detail, the scheme we were on with Merloni from Uxbridge was a loser from the start. We thought it would work, but instead it nearly finished us. I won’t go into too much detail, but we realised we were subsidising that side of the business by £2.10 per call.

After 3 + years, I pulled the plug. Their senior management told me that I should change my accountant, and that we would not survive beyond 6 months without the work and income generated. I was told I was making a big mistake as it was exciting times with the acquisition of Hotpoint, and I was missing an opportunity. Within 12 months, they dropped all their agents anyway, and with a short notice period. So what happened to these wonderful times that were to be expected? Fortunately for me I jumped ship near the beginning of the storm, and when I made a comment on the facts in an earlier forum, I received a phone call from Uxbridge giving me a severe ear bending.

Now they have pulled the idea of franchises out of the hat again, all I can say is best of luck all round. Looking at this cynically, the problem is, if they make engineers redundant, they cannot recruit new ones a few months later, the only way is to construct a new regime to attract & utilise staff. This will work a treat, as there is something in place during busy & holiday periods and the bulk of work can stay with the direct employ at quieter times. Instead of investing in staff, they will possibly gain an income from those who choose to take it up.

Believe it or not, the above is a very constrained reply as I could write chapter & verse, but I have chosen to be as reticent as possible.
