    Re: Beko Reacts!

I guess reading between the lines someone “Waltzed” in with the wrong information, or speculated and didn’t quite get it right. Assuming that was the supply?

    Move on……

Comet will take the place of that thread in any case.

I thought it was going to be a “snuff movie” as it progressed, was sure heading that way. I wonder if he is still alive?

What a plonker, god help anybody who ever buys his house, will be booby trapped I suspect.

    Re: ebay sales

I tried it when we pulled out of Merloni. By the time you took piccies or plagurised someone elses, loaded it all up answered the silly inane questions from punters, was a waste of time.

E-Bay is a buyers medium, but as you are selling a “Crisis Purchase” there may be no call in that week for what you are trying to get rid of.

I’ve still got Philco bits, as well as Merloni and they are being scrapped this year. MFI are gradually dwindling and Candy was skipped in 1999.

I wonder if they can really pull it off? Steve Clarke when he was at Lux tried to do it, even ready to table it at a national meeting, but there were so many rumblings from within the troops as well as a senior member of DASA he chickened out.

At the time there were quite a few Service Force agents who were vocally anti DASA, and I suspect they still are. I say this knowing the the bulk of Beko agents are like me Service Force. At present they stand at just over 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my annual turnover.

    Watch this space I presume!

Rather clever of Matilda to point those who know names and pedigree to a clue as to who has resigned. TBH I thought he was off to the Antipodes as he missed the southern hemisphere.

The cessation of spares supply, they will gain sweet F.A. from that because they lose the trade, and of course there are others that will & can supply. Puts a new meaning to Turkeys voting for an early Christmas!

Yes o.k. I still pay my DASA subs, but this is not a thing I had heard of, there again they never tell the membership anything as I’ve pointed out to them several times.

Sounds like one of the Chinese copies. Has it got the Ranco name & logo stamped on the stat itself? I bet not.

We had probems as well, even turning the knob it would rotate beyond the stop position.

Had my local W/Pool service partner in yesterday. He was telling me about Nigel Kennedy & Uri Geller. Seems like something had been going on for some time, and a change of area manager put a stop to it.

Warranties, I may be wrong here but: 1st year as we know are the responsibilty of the retailer. Second year normally underwritten by D&G, and if registered I’m sure D&G are responsible.

That bit of news saddens me. Phil was one of the pioneers of this medium. He may have kept his head down, but as with his nature he always remained circumspect and avoided controversy within the industry.

He attended many meetings, and always seemed to be one of those that quietly in the background got on with things, and always acted very professionally. At least that is how I’ve always viewed him.

I don’t suppose we will ever know why; whether it was the regime he was forced to trade within as part of a service partnership, or the current trading climate. I won’t speculate.

To the man in black, I hope you manage to stay in touch with the industry, and I will wish you all the best for the future.

    Kind regards.

This is still giving me Jip, or is that Gip?

I have had one hell of a hacking cough since my original posting, and that was over 2 months ago. Started to get better, but the last week or so has really taken a grip. If I still smoked may have had some bearing on this, but gave up nearly 30 years ago. Now it seems according to the Quack, I “May” have a chest infection. No S**t Sherlock!

Have been advised to take it quiet, and stay in the warm. That will be an interesting challenge as some Pikeys broke into our yard the other night & stolen our heating oil.

The outcome of this is, I cannot make the meeting at Coventry, which has well jarred me off.

Off to a jar of Friars Balsam this time (Martin will know what that is)

We are on £40 a job and it might please you to know we have only recently been upped to that rate.
The smeg spares web site is a pain though as customers are telling me what prices I should be charging for spares on chargeable jobs. I no longer quote part numbers on customers reciepts for that reason. Must admit though I am getting a fair bit of chargeable work from them so not going to rock the boat yet. and yes Ken, What update are you talking about?

Yes I know the discount has changed. Right PITA as we have to double check prices, addded to that you are right about the Smeg website prices. I’d rather they were artificially high.

The engineers tech portal is a bloody joke. If you need a pdf file you have to request it is added to the portal, it may already be there but even the one you requested is a pig to find.

The update thing, Ah you mean the e-mails asking about status of calls where we have parts on order from them, and they should be able to anwer their own questions.

About time they paid me more, and I will probably work on it later in the year. At present we are still busy, and I’m waiting to see if there are any signs of a slow down, and if there is I may be glad of them.

    Time will tell.

    K.

    What update thing?

All we do is carry out the work & send one of our invoices, we don’t even fault code them. They did mention fault codes, so I asked for an extra £4 per call. Funny that idea evaporated.

They haven’t put their money up for 3 years, so perhaps we should be looking to see if we are all “Enjoying” the same rate in my case being @£40 across the board.

Like Phil they are paid up to Jan 1st

1268576301 is indeed a sealed tub. The original in that machine was separates, but has been replaced by a complete unit.

Bearings are still available, and should be replaceable.

    Re: Mowing The Lawn?

We used to do them about 5/6 years ago.

We were forced to shell out on the top of the range “Clare” pat-tester. No ordinary one would do, had to be this one at over £600.

We would go months, and then they would all come in at once. Usually on a Friday, and the customer wants to pick it up that night so he can do the lawn over the weekend. Otherwise, they would drop it in, and expect to do some shopping up town then pick it up in an hour.

It was hard work convincing them it was a bring-in service, and we needed the lead as well to carry out a proper test. The customers used to turn up unannounced, and then complain as we refused to accept the goods without documentation and/or the lead. Also they used to bring in Chain-saws, petrol mowers and other makes being the rationale was like with a “Hoover”, their Qualcast or B&D was a “Flymo”

We only had 1 eng trained on them and the use of this fancy tester, and of course he would be out on the road, earning a proper living. If he was on holiday, hell to play.

Add to the customer issues, the stink of grass in the building as well as H&S matters with animal faeces. 2 girls would have to evacuate the office as their hay-fever would kick in, and 2 engineers affected as well.

After 1 season, the work evaporated, and we were left with the Pat-Tester. I wonder if the new service provider has ensured the repairers are fully kitted out with the correct test equipment and procedures. I may have one for sale in a smart wooden box, hardly used

Just imagine this work from somewhere like Connect where it could get missed as a bring-in, and a service call gets booked for the eng to call at the customer’s address.

Been there, got the tee-shirt and the grass stains. Never again!

    Brilliant, shows this room works.

No pun intended, I’ll let this one grow for a day or so, then get the scythe out with my experiences from the past.
