Anyone know if anything was saved of this part of the operation at Bognor?
KevinSadly that finished a few years ago.
They run a road show for engineers as well, and for the South-West they use my centre. Will be sad if that ends as well.
I will mourn the passing of Bognor as well, but things move on and as long as I can enjoy the same back up and rapport with Prescot in Merseyside, then no problem. Dave Ponsford is still based at Bognor, and is still answering his phone.
Hanging on in there in case Stoves or Belling come my way.

ParticipantRe: UKW Subs Funding – the future?
Yes I’m up for it.
When it all then comes to fruition, we need to make it public what has been done regards the server and speed, but above all to tell them how it was funded.
That is the carrot, then comes the stick, just make it clear that with more funding, there will be more benefits. However, it is an investment, as some by get fed up of the timing out; and if it is their first casual visit, they may never come back to the site. You need to speculate to accumulate.
Yes I know the “fly-by-nights” and casual passers by will benefit, but they are generally just as described and not committed enough to keep up with the site, let alone contribute or get rewards.
Put me as a yes, unless someone can come up with a real blinder with what else to spend it on.

Complete lower spray arm is the answer. Not too expensive.
You will find the new one will only have 1 nozzle. Supposed to be like that, all the nozzle does is wash the debris off the main filter into the sump filter.

Definitely go local.
Just ask around your local service suppliers who do they use, meaning the people that service your vans, where you get your tyres, your local plumbers merchants, stationery suppliers or office machine dealers etc. Even local business associates will be able to advise. Bet there will be just a couple of local providers that have the area pretty well sown up.
Take a look in the local chippy/chinese take away next time you are in the queue and see whose label is on the cylinders. In this town there are 2 names that are most popular, and they both give a pretty good deal and importantly they are well recommended.

The powder ones corrode inside as well.
Regretfully in the interest of Health & Safety you need to have the correct gear. If you employ 5 or more, even if out based, the safety demands apply. Try taking on a student or Modern Day Apprentice, you will get an inspection and fire control is well up on the agenda. Consider the periodic inspection by the local authority, again you have to meet the standards.
As well as the extinguishers, you should get exit and escape route notices, and fire point signs, as well as muster signs should there be an incident.
Look at it from the point of view from the guy supplying your fire protection, as in our trade he has certain criteria and legislation to abide by. The last thing he wants is cowboys creaming off the work, or D.I.Y.er’s trying to save a bob or two.
He is in a similar position to ourselves, but I bet he makes more money.

I check with the girls in the call booking office and make the obvious queryJust to clarify Alex for another thread I am running at the moment, what call booking office is this I wonder?
Our own booking office within this building.
One of the lasses took the call, and sensibly passed it through to the spares dept for a pre-order of parts to save calling empty handed. I picked it up as I was passing, and thought I would prevent someone ordering and taking the white outer door of a D/Washer that we didn’t need.
The annoyance was we took as many steps as possible to get it right, including querying with the customer on 2 phone calls that the door on the D/Washer is a steel one; and surely this cannot be cracked. She was most insistant that her door was plastic, and actually suggested we didn’t know what we were doing.
Well, life would have been a lot easier if she told us it was the dispenser door.
Another famous one we get is Hinges on an oven door, we know full well that they mean the siliconed brackets are unstuck, will they accept that?… NO! They insist it is hinges, then when we turn up with no outer door but 2 hinges, they then tell the engineer, “Oh but I did tell them it was the door”.
How about this one then, engineer today spent an age trying to find out why a D/Washer module had blown to bits. There was evidence of water had got into the base, yet he could not find where and how. After checking it all over, and saying to the customer that the water was a mystery, the customer’s friend piped up, “Do you think you ought to tell him about all the foam pouring out after trying washing up liquid?”
Don’t you just love em!!

Customer phones up, AEG Dishwasher in guarantee. Complaint of crack in door.
I happen to stumble on the call, as it was in for parts to be ordered prior to visit. I check with the girls in the call booking office and make the obvious query, “How can it be cracked, this is a steel door”? The girl who took the call said, “Oh the customer is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} convinced it is the door, as it is cracked from top to bottom, I told her it is a metal one, but the customer was adamant, and in fact got quite rude”.
So, we phone the customer back just to be sure, who still tells us that it is a plastic door, and sure enough the plastic is cracked right the way down. I’m having none of it, so I ordered the plastic fascia panel. Sent the engineer there with the fascia a few days later and thought that was it. The call was over 40 miles away.
Wait for it……..
Engineer phones from site……….
Can I order a part please………
Yeah?? what do you need?………..
A SOAP DISPENSER, the door is cracked where she puts the powder…….
Arrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhh!!Alex

Have any of you guys considered the detergent technology training?
Well worth it, and will take the mystery out of most of this subject. Take a look on the site for where & how the training is on offer, and if you express an interest maybe a seminar will come your way.

This is like reading the Sunday Times.
Getting this back on topic, I actually got fed up reading it all. There are good points from both sides of the argument.
Point is though Iv’e paid one year @ £60 and now into the second term which I done as a one off payment. A night out for 4 in a good chinese amounts to the same, so what is the problem? I can’t say I’ve misssed it.
The whole philosophy of the Subscribers Forum, is to donate for the use of those who provide for the subscribers forum. It aint burning a hole im my pocket. Please tell me if I’m wrong?
So, to move forward, we need to think of the best appliaction of funds. I do agree that had this been in place when a certain company was applying litigation, I would not have objected to the use of the fund. After all, “There for the grace of God go I”
As long as the money is not misappropriated, I’m sure all of a sudden something will crop up that we subscribers could benefit from.
They way I look at it is that for a measly £60 p.a. I get advice, all the gossip, who to avoid and not avoid, and above all friendship and a bit of a laugh at times. O.K. there are those that ride on the back of it, but they are usually casual browsers. I bet all the names in here are regular contributors, and the ones who get the most from the site. The other 550 I suspect may come and go. I’ve seen loads of names that have dropped off the site in the last 2 and a bit years. Some of them were regulars, but they obviously got fed up, or couldn’t last the distance.

ParticipantRe: A Radical Thought
I thought the original idea was a “Slush Fund”. There was even consideration to be offered to Pat-UK regards some crazy woman taking him to court.
As it stands, we ought to think of something, and I really don’t know what. We have had some little initiaves, but I suspect they might not have been taken up. Problem is there aren’t many of us in here and as you only ever get a small percentage of a body doing things, the useage will be inevitably low.
The future?
Encourage more in here, make it more lively
Allow contentious or delicate posts to be put up in here and maybe approved, before timing them to hit the public forums (that was the original idea)
Publicise the accounts of Subscribers forum
Keep members informed of the direction and heading of UKW
Run ideas past us who are in here, such was when the training was 1st mooted, asking us if there is any mileage in it and our opinions. (I only used training as an example, project X could be another example)
Close the forum as a bad Iidea and refund the balance, leading to……
If the money has not been put to good use to date, use it to cover some of the costs toward the next meeting, or if it is felt it should be paid back, use it to settle the hotel bill of those of us who qualify.
I personally don’t decry the loss of what it potentially £100 odd to date. However I suppose something ought to be done.
Ideas please??

Kevin.
Many thanks for your candid reply, this is why I was asking.
I have my reservations, and one of those does relate to the clause in the contract that prevents working for other companies. I had a sneaky feeling that this had not been recinded, simply by the fact there has been little mention of same.
I was intrigued by the situation as a whole, and it is important that UKW members are fully aware of the state of play regards NESN.
Importantly though, if anyone who has access to this forum has any other comments, whether to the positive, or as shown to date to the negative, please state your case.
Then those who wish to consider NESN as part of their portfolio can do so in the full knowledge thay are aware as to what they are doing. The choice would ultimately be theirs, and we as a body certainly does not want to influence anyone.
As I said earlier, I don’t need any more work, and I certainly don’t want rubbish work. Quality is my criteria these days, and I enjoy the luxury of being choosy.

From an outsiders point of view. It seems the beast is Dead, or is it sleeping in another hollow?
Is it possible for someone to enlighten us as to the status of NESN as a company to do work for? Some of us are always on the look-out and of course some of the history we have been reading may wrongly influence a decision perhaps. I’m not speaking for myself as we are brisk, but it is nice to know who does what and who is respectable these days.
What I’m thinking is maybe a member of this forum who really knows the modus operandi of NESN, someone who knows their direction, would like to put up a posting. Perhaps they would like to reassure future repairers as well as work providers that the corner has indeed been turned, and as a company they are o.k.
Obviously not NESN themselves as that is self esteem. There must be someone who has the confidence and conviction to address this small request. It would be nice to know if:-
• Has the contract has been re-structured, especially regards other work?
• What now prevails regards concerns over the money situation? There have been stories of extreme losses and reductions in payments by means of a subsidy
• Do you as an agent make money on the deal, or are you hanging in there to regain your status and recoup any losses rather than cut & run.
• Does NESN command the respect in the industry, are the existing members confident?
• How do they compare with others? (don’t name names).
• Would you recommend them to your colleagues that you associate with?
Just a few points that I feel are now prudent.
Any takers?

Hinges & springs come as a kit, which is as a pair.
You may think it a bit much to have to replace the lot, but the difference is amazing.
You can source the parts via the site, or a repairer from Repairs@

Not the 1950’s further along the main road going into Brum.
The lake may well appeal to one or two. Will E/mail Dave Q when I get a chance.
