Do you meen stats turn “off” or switch “off”??I meant when I switch it off manually. The fridge is exactly the same as it was before after I fitted the new stat
Capilar from thermostat is finishing where? it is in the air or you have one disc for that?
The capillory of the stat just shoves inside a plastic hole and pushes in several inches. I’m not sure if in needs locating somewhere or if it’s enough to just shove it in as far as it will go but you can’t do anything except push it in unless you are supposed to remove the fridge and do something round the back.
But logicaly, if the stat capillory wasn’t located properly and wasn’t able to monitor the evap temp the fridge should be getting much too cold and freezing stuff.
I think there just happens to be enough gas in to get to the perfect temperature for the moment which is why I found it strange. I presume after time it will not be able to get temperature down to the proper level but for now it is maintaining 0 degrees everywhere (on all of the shelves)
Meanwhile it’s costing way too much in electricity.

It does probably need scrapping but it’s bugging me why it is maintaining such perfect temperature.
It is R134a and when the stat’s turned off the light goes out and compressor stops. Other than that it never stops running yet it doesn’t freeze, plus the back wall has even beads of ice and the thermometer (see pic) shows that even on the top shelf the temp is bang on 0 degrees.
This surely is easily enough to turn the stat off?

PS I’m now in Brinsworth Rotherham Martin – quite posh – at least compared to before 😉

ParticipantRe: Dyson washing machine spares?
Thanks Steve. I wonder if Dyson would sell spares at trade prices if you contact them direct?
It’s an unusual situation really but if they don’t help the independents they may find their second washing machine attempt (if it ever happens) doomed to failure in the UK because too many people have been burnt by finding they can’t get anyone to fix it and too many people in the trade will warn customers off them.

Cheers Martin. It’s a rum do that. I presume no trade prices then.

ParticipantRe: Beko no fast spin fault
Thanks. Either way on a budget Beko it’s likely to get scrapped.

You spend far too much time on youtube Martin. What’s the idea behind this one then? The text complains about 3 makes of machine and criticises Currys. It accuses them off selling rubbish (no argument with that) and that they’ll sell you anything (still with them there) but then says they bought a better machine from Pricerunner – but Pricerunner will sell you anything too and lists all the brands they are dismissing as rubbish. Hardly a logical argument.

All work should be done “buy” a qualified person?
Maybe the people behind it have produced some more useful tutorials but apart from the blatant spelling mistake my other observation is what’s the point of it? Surely no “qualified person” would find it remotely useful, and any member of the public who cannot work out how to take off 3 bolts and disconnect this motor shouldn’t be allowed within 3 feet of a washing machine with it’s lid or back off.

ParticipantRe: how to cover this
It doesn’t sound like reversed fill hoses. I’ve known several people who’ve used machines with hoses reversed for years until I pointed it out. The only symptoms are badly creased (and warm) clothes, the machine should still work ok. Hot clothes could be caused by a machine aborting before rinses or no cold water getting in.
Someone else “fixing” a machine under warranty shouldn’t void a guarantee at all – it’s just a cheap get out clause used by big companies who try to con us into thinking a warranty is void just because someone takes a lid off. Obviously a warranty is an addition to statutory rights so in theory people can make up their own rules but consumer rights superced them anyway.
Someone in theory could write anything they like into one – even something daft like if you don’t address me as “sir” the guarantee is void. The point is that even if a company says their guarantee is now void they still have to fix the product under consumer law.
The customer has no right to get someone else in and expect recompense though unless you refused, or made it clear you were reluctant to call out.
Just my thoughts.

ParticipantRe: September 2007 Meeting
I just returned to BT after about 15 years as a cable customer when I moved house and there was no cable service. I was partially pleased at returning to BT because my memories of them were rose-tinted. I have been astounded and bitterly disappointed at how low they have sunk. The worst service I can recall ever – from any company. I won’t bore anyone with details but they deserve to go bust with this standard of service except they still have a monopoly of sorts because they control all the lines and network – otherwise they probably would.

ParticipantSo the best, most well built washing machines that are actually designed to last at least 20 years are penalised more because they are heavy whereas someone producing a tin can pile of throwaway trash is less affected if it’s nice and light? Crazy.

ParticipantRe: Has WEEE affected anyone yet?
Thanks K. Sorry for being under-speed on this one. I know it’s been covered a lot. I just assumed the whole point was to make manufacturers and retailers pay. People makeing or selling good stuff shouldn’t have to pay anything and people (nameless) who make stuff that’s not lasting should have to pay so much that it would be cheaper for them to spend the money improving their products.
It all sounds like a wasted opportunity. I heard somewhere that charges go on weight so that the best quality products have to pay more!

ParticipantRe: Has WEEE affected anyone yet?
So does a seller have to take the old one away free of charge or not?

K.Not selling directly myself I haven’t taken much notice of the WEEE thing. I am confused though. I was sort of under the assumption that sellers had to take an old appliance back free of charge and that the manufacturers would have to foot the bill. Is this not the case? If not, what is the point of it?

ParticipantRe: How many water valves can be stripped down these days?
I’m looking at a product similar to a Bosch aqua stop hose. To fit it you have to remove the little plunger inside the water valve. Once fitted it replaces the valve with one right at the beginning of the hose so when the valve is off there’s no pressure in the hose so it can’t burst.
It also eliminates most of the water hammer associated with the valve shutting off which can be loud in some homes. The idea is it can be fitted to any washing machine.

I’ve had quite a few where I couldn’t even get the coil off and some where the coil comes off but I couldn’t unscrew the stem without damaging it.
