ParticipantQuick update. I got my DC01 fixed this morning . Although it would have given me huge satisfaction to do it myself, impatience got the better of me and I took it to my local friendly, reliable repair shop. They charged a very reasonable price to fit a (reconditioned motor) and a new belt (the spare one it came with when new never got used so not bad) same day! I agree the new Dysons aren’t nearly as robust as this one (though much lighter to lug upstairs). Anyway v happy even if it just buys my Antarctica Dyson a little more time. The fella in the shop said the EU 900watt rules meant I’d never get a new one as good as this. Ive read mixed things about this so not sure if it’s 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} true, although the others I’ve used seem to have much weaker suction by comparison. Agree Sebo sound the best. Shark had very good 5* user reviews. Anyway my DC01 lives to fight another day. Thanks for all your help & advice- really helpful as usual!

ParticipantOh dear. I feared as much! Hoped it was a minor electrical issue. ☹️☹️☹️ I’m not sure it’s worth putting a new or even a reconditioned motor in a 25 year old Dyson. It’s just so simple to fix usually & much more powerful than the new ones I’ve seen. Do you think it’s worth keeping it going or do you rate the new ones. Are there any you’d recommend?

ParticipantThanks. Thought it might be the cord, but it doesn’t look like it is. Could it be the motor burnt out if it does absolutely nothing?

ParticipantRe: Hettich replacement hinge instructions
Just wanted to let you know (belatedly) that we fitted the new hinge on the fridge(it was fairly easy to do) and the fridge is working perfectly now and lovely and cold- π big thank you! much cheaper than a new fridge.
BTW when I told my dad about the fixing dropping inside the fridge if you take the screw out completely- he thought that was a wind up! I said you weren’t winding me, but he pointed out that the door was reversible and the fixing on the other side hadn’t dropped inside the fridge. So can you settle the argument once and for all-was it a wind up?

ParticipantRe: Help!! Dishwasher dead
Thanks am not going to do this one myself as socket is not working and i can’t be sure correct fuse in consumer unit is off (will get an electrician) Turns out this was an old socket and not the one it was plugged into before which is in unit next to it and involves tricky threading!!!
Not having any luck with just putting this stupid dishwasher back. as its now sprung a leak from where the inlet hose meets the appliance. Wet new floor!!! π Grrrrr! I’m also worried it seems to be dripping underneath LHS as you face the unit and about 6 inches back from front – any ideas? Am really praying its still wet from inlet pipe puddle- but it does seem bit odd its just dripping there also is it normal for them to have virtually no floor clearance underneath?

Thanks you were right pulled dishwasher out again plugged into alternative socket dishwasher is fine! Socket is dead- is loose wire in it most likely cause?

ParticipantRe: Bosch machine smelly!
Thanks ok I’ll try that then! At least the load of washing I did in it today smelt a bit better than yesterdays! π

ParticipantRe: Bosch machine smelly!
Thanks, reading that then do you think my maintenenance wash disturbed the gunk? rather than a blockage in the drainage somewhere?& i should persevere with more mainttenance washes (with dishwasher cleaner maybe) until it improves.

ParticipantRe: Creda fan oven not heating up
Thanks, out of interest. How long would you expect an element to last – is 5 years good bad or average?

ParticipantRe: Creda Europa oven not heating up
Thank you for your reply. I have managed to get the old element out without too much trouble. So I recon I should be able to fix it myself if it’s the element. Although a friend told me that they had the same problem with their fan oven and it was due to the thermostat failing which then caused their replacement element to break. Is this likely to be the case (it didn’t seem to overheat when it broke if anything it’s been on the cool side although I think there might have been a bang) π
