ParticipantSo i tested it. There are multiple connectors.
The top white one has a reading, but the bottom yellow one is 0 ohms. Not sure which is which – do you think it needs replacing?

aris
ParticipantNo idea what it looks like – nor how I would test it. Is there a service manual available?
aris
ParticipantAh yes I removed and checked they are clear. They appear to be spinning too.

ParticipantPardon my ignorance – what are the bars?
I am running it on a hot cycle bow with a quarter cup of citric acid to give it a bit of a clean. Bit of preventive maintenance.
aris
ParticipantTried this – nothing happened. To be honest, I couldn’t even see where the water might come out from after tilting.
I did sort it out though. I added water to the dishwasher, switched it on, then pressed the reset buttons. It emptied what was in there, and was able to start up again.
Based on this – what do you think the cause may have been? Stuck pressure valve?

ParticipantThanks for the response. I’ll give that a go. If it is this, what may have caused it? Any preventive maintenance I can do to prevent it from happening again?

ParticipantThanks
As I suspected, along with my 20 year old washing machine, my 20 year old tumble dryer will be better made than anything I can buy now. I’ll check the vents and stick with what I have.

ParticipantI think if you want anything to happen, you need to make it happen. Speak to the press, politicians, and social media. I’m not sure if your industry has a trade group, but if so it really should be their job to make manufacturers feel uncomfortable with the situation we have come to with regard to repair.

Cheers.
So in other words, all the low-end models.
I’m still running my 22 year old Bosch WFK 2801 – it is a beauty of a machine for a DIY repair. I posted some pics here several years ago showing how I replaced my bearings. It was really easy to do for someone like me who is not an appliance repair professional – I didn’t even have to remove the tub – all done in-situ. I’ve replaced the bushes a few ties, the heating element, door latch mechanism, and I think that’s about it.
I know nothing lasts forever though – and this machine is possibly nearing the end of its life – so I want to be prepared on a make and possibly model of machine to buy. It looks like it may well be a Miele.
When I bought my current machine 22 years ago, it is about £550 – the second most expensive machine Bosch made. That is about £900 in todays money – clearly money well spent at the time too.

ParticipantWhich models of Miele were shown to have sealed plastic tubs in that trade forum link?

ParticipantYes, I can see the issue here – there will be spares available – but at a price that may not make economic sense. I suppose the devil will be in the detail of the legislation. It is a start at least. The EU framework is this:
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/qanda_19_5889
I’m not sure if the UK will mirror this – but it sounds like it. At worst, we can get the information or spares from friendly EU countries.

ParticipantI’ll have a look thanks. I see that the housing is still available as a spare too if I need to replace.

ParticipantInside behind buttons – that rust appears to be the area behind the bottom of the buttons.

ParticipantSo really, the best bet from a repair ability point of view is a Miele? Even the low end duchess the WSD123?
