the thermostat is located in the fridge section, the cooling process starts in the freezer evaporator first and then reaches the fridge hidden evaporator section when the freeer is at approx -24c, lack of refrigerant is the most likly cause to your problem, but you need to access the system to realy check this.

Cheers loopey for the second opinion.

it sounds like your freezer evaporator is blocked with ice stopping the fan which cools both the freezer and fridge sections, please check the rear panel of the freezer section for any ice or snowey type of frost build up, must leave the forum now but will post tomorrow on any feedback, hopefully someone else may help you.

the compressor will stay off for aprox 10 mins just leave it and post back, no error codes showing on the front panel is a good sign.

what are the temp displays now showing.

next, switch off appliance and wait 5 mins, switch back on and it will do a self test, during that test it will start and stop the compressor if no compressor start up or a click from the back the be prepared to store your frozen food elsewere as you will loose it.

    Re: Hotpoint HM312I Fridge Freezer

as this is a wet wall fridge system with a thermostat control, it has to be a system fault for te fridge not to work, refrigerant leak of weak pumping compressor.

first thing to check is the freezer evaporator to see if its blocked with ice, open the freezer door remove the bottom 2 baskets look at the plastic grill where the lower air lots are and se if you can see a build up of ice.
