ParticipantYes Dave that’s the one.

ParticipantUpdate :- went back today and removed the front panel to gain access to screws that attach the R/H side panel
Removed the screws and eventually gained access to the motor.
Motor mountings intact but rear mounting has slipped out of position allowing the motor to drop.
The mounting rests on the plastic base but the ledge it rests on is very shallow so the mounting slips out.
Bad design I reckon it’s going to cause many problems on this range of dryers.
£600 dryer less than 2 years old and it’s going to be scrapped.
Advised customer to kick up a fuss with Samsung Customer Service.chuffy
ParticipantI’ve been in touch with the customer and because of the likely cost of the repair she’s resigned to the fact that the appliance will be scrapped.
So with her blessing I’m going to return and “rip” the appliance apart just to see how to gain access to the motor/pulley assy.
Then I’ll know for future reference.
I’ll keep you posted.Cheers.
Noel.

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for the response.
Long gone are the days of dryer repairs being simple!
This appliance was very expensive and is only 2 years old.
It had the motor mount screws replaced whilst under warranty so it seems like it could be a weak point on these appliances.
Like what you say could be a major strip down and an uneconomic repair.Noel.

ParticipantHi Dave update on this power module.
I sent it off to QER and called them a few days later for a status update.
Apparently they replaced several components but couldn’t get it to power up so it was scrapped.
Cheers.

ParticipantI’ve messaged QER with photos and asking if they would attempt a repair.
Will let you know how I get on.

ParticipantThanks Dave,
Don’t think I’ll be replacing any chips I have enough problems with relays and capacitors.
I’ll probably have a word with QER again.

ParticipantHi Dave managed to obtain a cheap TY50-8A7 D shaft motor and 10 minutes with a file I’ve converted it to a double D shaft and it works a treat.
Cheers.chuffy
ParticipantCheers Dave that one should do the trick.
chuffy
ParticipantYes I’ve swapped shafts before but don’t have a donor motor to strip.
Ive compared the shafts and I’ll probably buy a new motor with a metal D shaft ( as opposed to hollow plastic) and hopefully file/grind another flat on it to fit.chuffy
ParticipantHi Dave,
I’ve still not managed to obtain this part.
Many phone calls and emails and back to square one.
The customer is being very patient so I might just remove the module and send to QER just in case they can repair it.
Nothing to lose apart from a few quid postage etc.Noel

ParticipantCheers Dave,
It may be of some help.
From past experience some of the Zanussi, AEG, Bosch Siemens condenser dryers are bad enough to work on.
I’m not very clued up on these heat pump dryers so I do try and avoid them.
I don’t want it to be one of those jobs that you regret getting involved in and say never again.Cheers.

ParticipantIt’s been 3 months since I last saw the m/c and diagnosed the fault.
As far as I can remember it was completely silent on power up.
Like I said I spoke to EMW / QER and they were reluctant to try to repair saying it’s probably a power supply chip failure and they wouldn’t be able to repair.Noel

ParticipantHi Dave,
Sorry only saw your reply.
The appliance is completely dead with no slight click from the power module relays when mains connected.
I have tried EMW and QER to see if they would have look at it but no luck.
I have replaced several of this type of module for the same fault.Noel
