    Hi Dave

Finally got back to the cooker (long story) but the hinges appear incorrect…they look almost identical to the originals but they are about an inch too long (the top of the hinge body locates under a small flange on the inner door)
Any other suggestions?…all help appreciated 😉

    Hi Joakim

If you’ve tried another appliance in the same socket and that’s ok then open up the plug to the washing machine and check that. The fuse may have failed so you could try another one although beware that this may fail as soon as you switch on. If it does, or the machine still doesn’t work then you will require an engineer to investigate…it may have a faulty on/off switch, a faulty door lock, or a component inside may have an earth fault.

In that case you should measure 240v on both connections of the capacitor and 240v on two of the three motor connections, the third remaining connection will be neutral.
I agree with Martin though…from what you say its highly unlikely to be a motor/cap fault, and these are not known for wiring probs…far more likely its the motor in the direction timer has gone o/c, in which case a new timer will be required.

    Re: SERVIS M2410S DRUM STOPPED

I cannot recommend you do a live test…far too dangerous! Sooooo….pull the plug and test with an ohm meter…

If you disconnect the motor harness and disconnect the capacitor you can test these individually. The capacitor will show a short cicuit momentarily but as it charges from your ohm meter it will go open circuit.
The motor will prolly have three wires, two windings joined at the third connection…you can therefore measure the resistance accross each winding individually, and accross both together. The windings will have a similar resistance value, and so accross them both you should read the sum of the two.

    Hi Martin
Is that model one with a seperate timer for the motor action?…had one or two of thoses go over the years…

thedman…it is a standard capacitor start-and-run motor so if you can identify which wires go to the motor windings and which go to the cap then a meter will tell you if the circuits are ok. If you can’t…then perhaps its time for an engineer?

    Hi don

Just remember that ‘best’ and ‘cheapest’ don’t always go together! 😉

Ordering from a web company is usually the cheapest, but then what happens if the machine doesn’t work first time? (Your local independant retailer may well send someone out that day to have a look for you!)

i agree with you kheath…i’m a sole trader thats been at it for nearly 20 years, and many years ago i approached a larger service company locally, struck up a friendship with the proprietor and as a result have done much contract work for him. In fact i still do on average about a day a fortnight…all easy work, no dealing with the customer, no ordering spares myself, the pay is good and it arrives in my account promtly!
So…der…hang in there mate and look around a bit!

    Hi Lawrence

Over the years i’ve had three or four of these where the valve doesn’t let the full flush of water through…very unusual for a valve i know but it has happened. The usual symptom is the tank fills then overflows down the syphon at such a slow rate that the float doesn’t move, the tank keeps filling and then the little flood chamber at the bottom rhs of the tank unit fills, locking the valve right off. The cure?….new valve!
I have had a couple of partially blocked softener fill venturi’s at the top of the tank too…hard water area here WEYY HEYYYY 🙂 Even easier to cure…remove the inlet hose at the top of the tank (hard work) and push a piece of stiff wire in easy!
    Hope that helps?

Re: Ariston LI62 – door not closing

Sorry to be the harbinger of doom siz…do you have young kids?…i.e. of the age that stand on the open door to reach the worktop?
In almost every case i’ve come accross where the door doesn’t appear to hold shut it’s as Dave points out, the hinges are the problem, usually bent by excessive weight being placed on the open door….easy to check….open the door fully and it should sit in a horizontal position. If it appears to open beyond that then they are bent.
If not too bad then new hinges will sort it but very bad cases will mean distortion to the door and drum which effectively means a new appliance.

    Ohhhh dismay!

How often do we in the trade hear tales like this?….far TOO often!

Please please maggie do take the time to report this to your local trading standards officer….we in the trade will be eternally grateful…and you being a member of the general public will be far less likely to be victims of the ‘cowboys’

Surely has to be heater/pump wiring?…think the heater is used as a shunt for the pump?

Very rarely do two faults happen simulataneously on an appliance so as long as you were carefull not to damage anything when you did the bearing change then a wiring fault is most likely!

Sounds like an imbalance problem to me…if it does it whilst empty then can only be the module?
Funny….its usually a pensioner trying to wash a very small load (just one or two items). This means there is simply not enough volume of washing to spread around the drum to create a balance.
