    Re: Induction hob..above a built under oven…

This applies to induction hobs only as they have ventilation fans in the base which require a fresh air supply and the electronics are sensitive to heat and cooking vapours.

Ceramic hobs are almost universally popular these days with or without halogen rings. Have a good search around this site, there’s loads of useful info on the pros and cons to help you make your decision.

    Re: Induction hob..above a built under oven…

The only alternative is to mount the oven several inches lower than the hob, fit a divider shelf between the two that seals to the wall, and a fit a ventilation grill at the front between them…even that might be a little restrictive.

In other words there is no easy practical way really 😕

Re: Does Smeg SUK91MFX have any fuse?

No…no internal fuse. Most likely a poor/burnt-out connection somewhere, the mains connection being a common one.

Power off before going in :zap:

There are two barbs at the back which need carefully prising up with a flat-blade screwdriver, the lid then slides back 😉

and that in a nutshell is whats wrong with a lot of big companies, giving jobs to people who are clueless to the industry their operating in.
big corporations seem to have this amazing knack to put the wrong people in senior/important positions, then spend most of their energy justifying their appointments.

one company i used to work for is full of them, at every level??
i wonder who it could be..mmmmm

i often wonder how much more profit they could make by getting rid of the dead wood, and their stealthy costly mistakes.

Reminds me of a large company I used to work for….some nutter in the spares dept thought the engineers were getting away with daylight robbery because they were getting two motor brushes in a packet when they only ordered quantity one against a part number for them. The said nutter then had staff splitting all the packs and repackaging individually 😕

It took six weeks for them to realise why so many jobs got aborted so another brush could be ordered 😆

He’s agreed to replace the seal for the price of the seal alone. That sounds fair to me as the amount I would have paid would be the same as if he’d changed the seal in the first place. He offered this solution when I asked him about the first repair not working. I’ve emailed to accept that offer. He didn’t replace the seal the first time.

    That sounds fair enough 😉

Re: Door seals on washing machines

You’d prolly know if the drum was out of position either by it running eccentrically due to it being bent, or by excessive noise from drum bearing failure.

Far more likely is the seal itself is slightly mis-shapen…it does happen occasionally when they’ve been stored incorrectly and ‘remember’ the wrong shape they’ve been forced into whilst stored (often at the wholesaler so don’t automatically blame the engineer). Sometimes it’s just the seal hasn’t been located precisely on the tub or it’s clamp band isn’t quite in position.

Get the guy back….if he’s only just replaced the seal he should sort it free of charge even if another seal is required…if you found him on here then he definitely will 😉

DIYNewbie wrote:what would happen if you cut it back or filed it back a bit to give more clearance?

You’d end up with some very chewed laundry, not to mention socks disappearing and blocking the pump 😉

Some door seals even have a moulded ‘lump’ to ‘kick’ back any items that dare to stray too near the gap between drum and seal 😉
