Something tells me their lawyers are paranoid 😆
Hydrogen gas will build up in heating systems due to corrosion…if ever you have a radiator that regularly needs bleeding and there are no leaks then hydrogen due to corrosion is probably to blame (takes months/years to get to that stage)
The test…and quite good fun it is…is to hold a match to the gas you bleed out 😯 …it doesn’t actually go bang, instead it makes a high pitch scream as it ignites…mind you i can think of a lot of things that would make a high pitch scream when ignited 😆

Yes just pull 😉 ….the foam filling strip is usually sticky..

Yes i’ve seen that on occasion, unfortunately it doesn’t correspond with any of the available technical.
Have a search for smeg+reset and try that, but if it’s no go and the matrix/transfer tube and pressure switch are ok then it’ll be the pcb 😕

Sounds more like the impellor has sheared 😕
If you’re very lucky the shaft won’t be too rusted so you won’t need a new pump….just the impellor kit, but i’ve done a handful now and only one didn’t need a new pump despite attacking them with a wire brush 😯
Impellor kit is 183638

Have a search for E2 error….loads on here about it. If there was a lot of muck in the machine then odds on it’s got into the matrix on the RHS. You may be able to flush it otherwise replacement is the way to go 😉

The reduction in water has had an effect on wash times especially, but it does not affect the quantity of detergent required to clean.K.
Intuitively that doesn’t seem to make sense Ken? I would assume that for optimum cleaning you would require an optimum concentration of detergent in the solution and therefore less water for the same dose means a higher concentration?
The scum we find down here is grey coloured and very much like clay varying from soft and slimy to almost rock hard, even in machines where high temperature washes are done regularly (so no bacteria here) and the quantity seems to correlate directly to the amount of detergent used i.e. the correct dose and very little is found, overdosing producing copious amounts.
My own machine is a venerable Zanussi FL series which are known to block with scum but with careful dosing (currently 1 tablet) has never accumulated any amount of scum. The only problem is the filter unless cleaned regularly (at least once a year 😀 ) becomes ‘concreted’ in and almost impossible to withdraw. 😯

ParticipantRe: Moved a fridge on its side now it wont work
Oh dear….did you leave it to stand for a few hours before plugging it in and switching on…you would at least have had a 50/50 chance if it had been laid on the correct side 😯
If the compressor hums, clicks then stops it means the compressor oil has got into the system and blocked it. The only cure is to replace the complete evaporator with all the regassing that goes with it 😕
Unless it has sentimental value or is a big expensive model the best thing is to learn by your mistake and buy another one….probably not what you wanted to hear :rolls:

ParticipantRe: how many tablets?
We have very hard water here (276mg/l CaCO3) and using too much detergent is the biggest source of scum build-up…blocked pressure systems, filter housings and hoses. Lots of work for us of course, but it’s more noticeable with customers who use powder…they’re just used to tipping the stuff in without any regard for the actual dose.
We recommend tablets but only one in a wash unless it’s a heavy soiled wash with gardening clothes or football kit etc.
It seems to me that the detergent manufacturers haven’t kept pace with machine development in as much as they don’t seem to have adjusted the dose requirements they state on the packaging for years now despite the fact that machines use far less water than they used too.
Of course the cynic in me would suggest that they are unlikely to recommend people use/buy less of their product? 😉

….customers who start loading up their new built-in fridge with carrots and broccoli when the two fitters (me and partner) are still offering the damn thing up to the kitchen unit (today) 😕

Never known a bra wire to get wrapped around the drum shaft but there’s always a first time i suppose 😆
Nina, have a good look through the holes in the drum with a torch, you will probably spot the offender usually in the heater area at the bottom. Coax it with a couple of thin screwdrivers to where the sump hose is then disconnect the hose and withdraw 😉
Power off of course :zap:

No probs….it’s for the benefit of others who might search and read this thread too 😉

ParticipantRe: Crack inside fridge
As an interim measure it would be good advice to put some tape over the crack…some tough white plastic packing tape is ideal but good ol’ sellotape will do at a push. I have seen fridges last many years patched up this way so if Whirlpool can’t help you at least the machine should be ok 😉
