Re: SIEMENS VARIO ELECTRONIC FRIDGE FREEZER

Thanks for the link but the problems in the freezer and not the fridge.

Door seals (and behind them) are clean and the drain is not blocked.
Drawers and surfaces were washed out with anti-bax a few weeks ago and anything with the smell was turfed out.

This will be a pcb switch that has blown – it carrys mains voltage to the transformer. The part can be changed with the hood in situ.

Although the hood is badged Britannia it is made by BEST SPA in Italy.

Part number wise – ask for Johnny Johnson ( Senior Engineer) or Charles Cowe (Spares Dept) at Britannia in Blackpool – 01253 471111

Re: Wiring a Hob and oven

Presuming the oven is a standard 3kw unit, if a fault occurs in the oven it now has to blow a 40 amp fuse.
Given that a free standing cooker is going and the replacement is a built-in, it springs to mind that a good deal of work is occurring in the kitchen with the installation of worktops and cabinets.
I think it would be best to channel the wall down behind the new worktop and cabinet, feeding 6mm T&E from the cooker switch to a new cooker switch with 13 amp socket behind the oven. The new cooker switch could then feed the hob and the 13 amp socket feed the oven from a standard 3 pin plug.
The only kick up the backside for doing it the “correct” way is Part P compliance for extending the circuit.
If you do it the easy and potentially hazardous way, there is no circuit being extended and so no Part P reporting…………… stupid isn’t it!!!!

    Re: Leisure rangemaster 110

I have been told that there are two types of top element for the 110 – old and new but have not seen them together to clock the difference.

Some of the top elements I have fitted have a commoned neutral.
If whoever fitted the top element before you got there cocked it up to the extent that the inner and outer were reversed, its worth checking that they haven’t, with a commoned neutral, fed the element (left to right looking from inside the oven) live, neutral, and live( rather than live, live and then neutral on the commoned terminal). If they have done this, the inner will work as normal but the top outer element may not fully switch off via the stat because of a backfeed.

    Good Luck

    Re: POWERHOUSE STORES CLOSE

After 15 or so Scottish closures on the 2nd Feb they carried on to close, in total, 31 stores around the country.

Close to us, stores in Liverpool, Manchester, Chester & Crewe went.

They’re now down to 53 stores nationally against 139 in Sep ’03.

NESN and many others – we add to invoice and treat notification as a “part.”
Certain other bulk WP’s notify direct naming us a their subcontractor.

    Re: LPG and costs

Followed this thread with great interest being accredited both on Natgas and LPG.

If it helps for KWATT in Glasgow area, Gas Certification Co Ltd in Blantyre, Glasgow undertake both Natgas & LPG ACS. 01698 828222 contact Elaine Louden or Francis Kelly. enquiries@gascert.co.uk.

One point I’d like to make is that even though accredited in LPG there doesn’t seem to be a great demand from Service providors or manufacturers in my general area (Carlisle to Stoke).

We’ve approached several manufacturers etc offering both our Natgas and LPG services on cookers (we only install, service and repair cooking appliances) but with little or no interest apart from the smallish Range cooker manufacturers.

Another point that I’d like to make is that, generally speaking, over 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of LPG installations that we come across have not been installed by LPG operatives – this can be seen by the total disregard for even the most basic parts of the BS covering LPG.

Anyway, thanks for the read, it was most interesting and I hope the info for Kwatt was of use.

    Re: Smeg “Style” Hob thermocouples

    Thanks for that Dave,

Problem is slow response & prices ex Smeg & prices at Connect.

£12 to £18 (ex Vat) for a TC is a rip-off & as you know, industry standard TC’s can’t be used.

As usual with older Smegs, problem is one of loss of voltage at the junction of the spade terminal at the rear of the mag valve or poor T/C earth continuity to complete the circuit.

Thanks for the suggestions, Thermuparts is just down the road.
