Re: apparently the average cost for CCN1 and CkR1 is £600.00

I took ACS RE-ASSESSMENT in April this year for Core, Cookers & LPG – Total cost paid to the ACS centre at SGAS in Blackpool was £585.00 + VAT + £40.00 certification fee. 😮

The re-assessment took 3.5 days off work but included no training.

I purchased Viper books for the subjects to do and downloaded all relevant BS’s at my local library, all time but no extra time off the road for training.

Know it seems obvious, but are the air access ways fluffed up and is the cooling fan definitely coming in ??
Might also be worth checking which way the cooling fan is rotating ( is it sucking instead of blowing….)

Re: Lesure 2100 EL Gas Cooker

May be available as a set from Gas Appliance Spares in Preston (01772 702 755) but will need exact model & serial number.
Some Leisure cookers were not convertable, check the rating plate to see the WP and Gas family.

Failing that, try Rangemaster in Nottingham ( something about land of the living dead though…..)

    Good Luck

Re: Sale of Dangerous Parts to the Public.

I agree that UKWG have a very responsible attitude towards gas safety.

Its a shame that legislation will not stop big companies widely visited by the public like B&Q selling ” Gas Fire Installation Kits” on a special end of bay promo or cooker hoses (have you seen their prices!!!!).

I also purchase spares and consumables from a reputable gas appliance spares company in Preston….. To be fair, they will only give a discount on production of a Corgi card but 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of their sales are over the counter to Joe public.

Had a machine at the office since day 1.
Ring the details and amount in to the office from site, its processed there and then and hits the A/C three days later.
It may not seem cost effective on paper but a number of clients have stated that they prefer to pay by plastic and they think they get some sort of additional warranty if the repair costs over £100. If you are a one man band, it also makes the client think your company is larger.

Re: Will we be regulated by Corgi?

Having just resat my ACS (reassessment), I have many concerns with the “training and assessment industry” that has sprung up with certification.
To make sure I did not struggle too much, I visited my local main library and studied the latest British Standards.
At the assessment centre, I found that BS’s available for open book questions were completely out of date. Questions for open book related to previous standards now superceded – nothing on the new BS on pipework and sizing, nothing on the recent BS on Cookers and nothing on last years revision of LPG. Certain questions revolved around LPg Technical Memorandum 62 (TM62) which was withdrawn last year.

When queried, I was told that the problem was the prices of BS’s to buy!!
It all revolves around money!! even at the prices an ACS assessment centre charges – around £600 for assessment only ( no training) for core, cookers and LPG.

Yep, I got the certification but does it mean I’m safe to work on the current standards as they are applied……

Re: Teba cooker TFC1360SS safety issue

When I worked for a manufacturer (no names but very well known – Och Aye) it was called “Value Engineering”. The appliance was designed by R+D, field trialed and then half of it taken away by the “value engineers”. All to make a bob extra or two.

On a similar issue, why is the UK one of the last to fit flame supervision devices on domestic cookers. It is a legal requirement in Ireland and most of Europe and the last manufacturer in Italy that I had dealings with had to specially produce burner flash rings with only one hole for the igniter and none for the thermocouple!!

Surprised, (or am I not), that Corgi or HSE are not pressing this as a safety issue – perhaps the financial weight of UK cooker manufacturers has something to do with it…. the words dragging and screaming come to mind with the additional build costs.

    Re: JCA Cookers

Obviously Britannia legally checked all of this out.
At the time that the Sheffield was sold, Britannia were the Range Cooker Co PLC. They became Britannia Living Ltd after illness overtook the MD (the majority shareholder) and were purchased by a venture capital group.

We were told by Directors at Britannia that although there is a general industry perception that spares must be available for an appliance for 8 or so years after production ceases, there is nowhere that this is legally written down.

The Sheffield was specified and designed by Britannia but built by Viscount Catering (the old Moorwood Vulcan) in Sheffield. In 1998 or so, Viscount was taken over by Welbilt (Garland/Frymaster etc) and ceased to build the appliance. Existing stocks were slowly sold off but spares were thin on the ground. Eventually, anything specially manufactured by Viscount became unavailable and so the appliance was marked obsolete.

    Re: KENWOOD CK440

    Thanks for that.

We did look on Connect using Appliance make:- Kenwood and then model number. No elements were brought up.

After your suggestion we tried again with just the model number and there were the elements on the second page !!
Strange database – if you give it too much info you don’t get anything.

    Re: JCA Cookers

JCA cookers were brought in by the former MD of Britannia before they started badging Ilve products.

Britannia have classified these appliances obsolete. I have one or two spares and their engineers have a couple stashed away – depends what is wanted. They did Built-in ovens, hobs and one or two cookers.

Incidentally, if anyone comes across Sheffield range cookers these too are classified as obsolete by Britannia even though sold as late as 2002.

Re: SIEMENS VARIO ELECTRONIC FRIDGE FREEZER

Thanks Pup, sorry couldn’t reply sooner – couldn’t get on the site.

Checked the evaporator on top of the compressor but it was clean; just a few dog hairs – we’ve two dogs and the hair gets everywhere!!

Only the fridge on top seems to empty into the evaporator ( hole in the back of the fridge and a channel to drain down into the evaporator); there are no drains to the evaporator from the freezer section. Just a hole with a plug at the front of the freezer for when you do a manual defrost.

    Any other suggestions most welcome!!!!
