Any ideas on this one. Customer complaint again of fridge side not working but no water in base of fridge this time. Could the thermistor be resistance have drifted or could it possibly be a ofv related defrost fault. Any help appreciated.

We did get the call out charge on the first call but it’s only £20. TBH Bob I was more than happy to suffer the loss and jettison the b***ard.

Went out to a Hotpoint integ dishwasher, older style with square(ish) pcb in the fascia. Customer laughs at innappropriate places when explaining fault, and wanting explanations about everything you say (an ex copper). Tripped elecs and now can’t get it to do anything. He’s already decided to get a new one as this one is 10 yrs old but his son persuaded him to get it looked at first (thanks son ).
Solder around the two push on tags blown, new PCB required. Big explanation follows and he’s in two minds. I quote £150 all in to replace and advise that in my opinion due to age, cost, and the fact that I can’t test it further without PCB fitting, it would be better to replace and he agrees, accompanied with the knowing laughs and nodding head that yer average traffic cop does. He’s also advised (at length) we only give a 3 month guarantee on PCB’s.
So he goes ahead with the repair (cue head scratching and office asking is it really worth it?)
Anyways, return with PCB, fit it and strange programme goings on. The loom is shot, done LOADS of these and never once had a loom fault :-(.
Cue long explanation again and rebook for next day.
Get back next day and it’s the come and sit down routine. Go through everything again, no increase in price even though the job is now over-running. He wants us as a goodwill gesture to increase the guarantee to 12 months which is a no way at all. I explain at length, again, about pcb guarantees, no increase in price etc. I, as I’m now beginning to take this personally, say I’ll give him a 12 months on the labour, knowing it won’t fail again, regardless of the office, nope. I have a word with the office and we both agree to leave the job and take away the new PCB.
Boils down to him making a shockingly bad call initially and trying every trick in the book to get out of the repair, which he did, but I’m so glad he did. Can you imagine the next 12 months if we’d persuaded him to have it done.

Re: Smugged up or getting one over on obnoxious customers

Had to deliver a Beko freestanding cooker to a rental property this week. The landlord didn’t want to pay the installation fee so their own electrician was to install it. Later that day the electrician calls the shop to say that the cooker was faulty and we should deliver a new one, as the neutral clamp wouldn’t tighten on the cable end. Tracy tried to tell him it was more than likely he’d just slackened the clamp off too far to be told ‘ Listen love, I’ve been an electrician for 25 years, this cookers faulty’
I called the day after (landlord agreed to pay the fee this time) and guess what I found he’d done…..yep.
Tracy was in a mind to ring him back to say ‘Listen love, you know that faulty cooker you couldn’t install…’
