Gary, I think I may have been to the same call in N16. Was backed up when I explained how bad it was.
Had one more recently when I went to a Hoover Nextra, stuck to the floor, pile of crappy newspapers in front of it, place reeking of cat piss with ‘stuff’ around the machine. Asked if they could turn it on, heard the timer/selector grinding and said ‘Trip to Currys, love’ . Cheers Martin I see what you’re saying but I don’t remember any childlock symbols showing. Plus the display shows whatever programme you get to before the screen light up, whether wash spin or drain=-O

Sometimes the bar inside the door which holds the striker in place will ride out of it’s locators. Worth a check on that as well.
