Re: Part P Or Not To Part P

To further what Shane has found, from the IEE website:

Q5: What types of electrical work are ‘non-notifiable’?

The following types of work are non-notifiable:

Replacing accessories such as socket-outlets, control switches and ceiling roses

Replacing the cable for a single circuit only, where damaged, for example, by fire, rodent or impact(a)

Re-fixing or replacing the enclosures of existing installation components(b)

Providing mechanical protection to existing fixed installations(c)

Work that is not in a kitchen or special location and does not involve a special installation(d) and consists of:

Adding lighting points (light fittings and switches) to an existing circuit(e)

Adding socket-outlets and fused spurs to an existing ring or radial circuit(e)

Installing or upgrading main or supplementary equipotential bonding(f)

    Notes:

(a)On condition that the replacement cable has the same current-carrying capacity, follows the same route and does not serve more than one sub-circuit through a distribution board

(b)If the circuit’s protective measures are unaffected

(c)If the circuit’s protective measures and current-carrying capacity of conductors are unaffected by increased thermal insulation

(d)Special locations and installations are listed below

(e)Only if the existing circuit protective device is suitable and provides protection for the modified circuit, and other relevant safety provisions are satisfactory

(f)Such work shall comply with other applicable legislation, such as the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations

The way I see it is, it does not affect us for repairs or installations, even to cookers and until someone tells me differently I’m not going to worry about it, there’s enough new legislation as it is being introduced next year without this.

Yeah, I would stick with the one you’ve got, they’re pretty good generally.

The suppressor is a capacitor connected across the mains terminals.

Are you 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure the heater is OK ? As you say it doesn’t happen from cold this is indicative of insulation break down when hot – quite a common occurance.

A 500V meggar will be the only true way of testing, or run the dryer with the heater disconnected and see what happens 😉

It’s an APM8620, which is a Crosslee unit, the same as White Knight.

The most likely causes are the element and possibly the mains supressor.

Please pull the plug before investigating :plug:

Vivienne, if you remove the salad bin the label with the correct model number will be there. I will also need the serial number for this appliance as the door seal changed during production.

    Re: Diplomat ADP 8242

This shouldn’t be too serious CWH, certainly not terminal anyway.

It’s just not draining which could just be a simple blockage or possibly a drain pump failure.

Check the waste hose where it joins the sink trap (if it does) or wherever it connects to for blockages 1st.

If all seems well, you’ll most likely need an engineer to rectify for you.

If you let us know your postcode should you need an engineer, there’s plenty here who can help.

It is quite involved, the estimate you were given reflects this 😉

I can’t find another 3rd post anywhere, unless someone else deleted it.

    Re: Smeg UKSTX45 dishwasher error

E3 is a “not heating” error.

Resetting will have no effect I’m afraid as the fault will still exist afterwards.

As Smeg service advised, you will need an engineer to diagnose and rectify the fault for you.

Let us know your postcode, there’s planty of engineers here who should be able to assist.

Re: Hotpoint WM72 drum spider replace

You have to remove the inner stainless steel drum through the front of the machine, about an hour’s work for an engineer if all goes well.

You’d also be advised to replace the drum bearings while you’re at it.

I deleted the other post for you as well 😉
