ParticipantRe: Fridge stat
As the thermostat capillary length is fairly important on these integrated models, it’s best to order the correct one to be honest.
There are two for this model – post and pre February 1996. The serial number should be enough to identify for you if you can get that from the rating plate and let me know.
Both the stats are £18.50 inc VAT and post, so pretty reasonable.

Jeff, best of luck with whatever you decide to do in the future 😀

ParticipantRe: Integrated Larder Fridge APM 6315, 6115,6215
I can get it and post on if required no problem Nathan.
Can you confirm which of those models you have as the cosmetic parts may well differ.
It should be on a label next to the salad bin.

gee_jay wrote:if I get the same “ice-blockage” in next few days, I will know where the problem lies
It may take a few weeks to build up sometimes, or it may never happen again (accidently leaving the freezer door open can cause this).
Keep an eye on it though 😉

ParticipantRe: Homark Oven Door
Two things here:
The model you have provided is a 90cm range cooker not a fitted/integrated oven, could you please confirm.
If the model is correct, there are two versions, one pre 2001 and the other 2001 onwards so I would need the serial number as well, the hinges are different on both model versions.

gee_jay wrote:Could a failure of “de-frost heater” element cause this???
Yes, it could also be one of the defrost control thermostats or the timer.
If you don’t have the correct test equipment it will be virtually impossible to check each of those parts, best call an engineer to be honest and save yourself money on unwanted parts and a lot of time 😉
Check the directory or let us know your postcode, someone on UKW should be able to help with a service visit.

Is it the same model as the original poster’s kindi ?
It sould as if the door latch mechanism has jammed or broken, either way you’ll need an engineer to sort this out for you.
Please post your postcode or check the directories for an engineer near you.
By the way, I deleted the other two duplicated posts 😉

ParticipantRe: Merloni
It would appear that those that have read what has been posted on UKW have fed some knowledge back to NESN (perhaps 😕 )
As mentioned in the merlonipoint thread by Ken, they’ve done the correct thing by knocking the work back. Trouble is though, they are so desperate for work they’ll take anything at the moment, which is a concern, if merlonipoint can get away with ripping the piss and getting the work done with no regard for what will be left in their wake when they pull the work by screwing anyone in their path by landing them with excess spares/vans/engineers.
Best left well alone IMO untill Merloni negotiate a proper deal.

ParticipantRe: AEG vs Miele
iGuest wrote:I’ve read the specs, and I see both the AEG and Miele have extra rinses, what is the difference?
Very little I doubt as far as water usage and economy go, why the concern over extra rinses may I ask ?
iGuest wrote:Also, if AEG and Zanussi are the same machines, is there any reason to buy the AEG over the Zanussi – other than deciding which one looks nicer? Both are reliable makes aren’t they?
Yep, both virtually identical. The AEG may have extra functions for the consumer, possibly more economical (see the energy label).
iGuest wrote:The Mieles are certainly nice machines, but I think they’d maybe be pushing the budget a little too much…
Nope, not at all. Miele manufacture all their own components, they also guarantee the appliance for 10 years in many cases.
I’m not biased by the way as I have nothing to gain at all from recommending Miele, mainly because they don’t go wrong too often 😉

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wma32 washer, drum lifters breaking
Sorry, I forgot the recommendation.
It really depends on your budget to be honest.
Miele would be most of our recommended purchase, expensive; yes, reliable; very.
Middle range, go for a Bosch/Siemens (same appliance, different badge) or a top end Zanussi/AEG (same appliance, different badge).

ParticipantRe: Journal?
I’m not too sure really what it’s purpose is apart from a sort of diary. You can add your thoughts and stuff and either make them public or private. As you can see I had a play with it but that’s as far as I got.
Two public members have also found it by the looks of it.
It’s an integral part of the PHP Nuke software that UKW uses.

ParticipantRe: ACS training and exams
That just about sums up the whole farce that gas training has become for us in this industry of late.
Forgive me for repeating this but when will the realisation come that soon there will be no-one left to repair gas cookers within the white goods industry, there will ne no choice for manufacturers and insurers etc to use the heating industry engineers who have cooker skills, and they sure as hell won’t be doing it for £35-£45 a call.

ParticipantRe: New World Grill Pan
Martin wrote:why not supply one of those pattern Grill Pan assemblies
Because it’s an eye level grill on a gas cooker, nothing else will fit, otherwise that’s exactly what I would’ve done. Plus it’s a “distance sell” so it’s gotta be right otherwise I’ll end up with it back and coughing up the extra postage.
Ta for the suggestion though 😀

ParticipantRe: cre t/d temps
The drum air temperature for most dryers is 60-70 C
109 C is far too high and will burn the clothes. I don’t have the tech info here but if this is a condenser there may well be another thermostat hidden between the front drum support and front panel of the dryer.
