AJP, which DC04 is it ? There are three different brush rolls. There should be some letters after the DC04.

Let me know, I can sort out the part numbers for you then.

    Cheers.

Re: “Cookers” – supplied by Bernstein Group PLC

Phil, I don’t know which number you have been trying but this one is being shown on their old website, 0870 750 2435. It is for Caremark, who were the service and spares side of Bernstien’s business.

Other than that, someone may be able to help with the seal if you could post the model number here.

    Hope that may help.

    Re: Hinges needed

Hi, these hinges are a fairly common part fitted to many fridges which are all basically the same with different names on them.

The hinges are Β£15 each plus any postage. I can order them for you if you wish, email me directly or send a private message. I will need to know if the hinge you need is top left/bottom left/top right etc.

    Regards.

Oh well guys it looks as if CORGI registered engineers are about to become as scarce as hen’s teeth. I do hope all the manufacturers etc, are prepared for a very large hike in rates. πŸ˜•

That’s the way I saw it as well. I believe DASA are to write a letter to Corgi on the subject, perhaps if this is backed up with some correspondence from manufaturers and work providers it may have more of an effect.

Reply from Corgi today, make of it what you will

    Dear Dave,

Please find attached some information from CORGI regarding the ACS structure as requested. Should you require any further information on this subject, please contact my colleague Nicole Perry on 0870 401 2257.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie Dudley

RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON NEW STRUCTURE OF THE ACS TRAINING :

It is important to note that ACS was designed for experienced gas operatives to demonstrate their continuing gas safety competence, with NVQs the preferred route for new entrants to the industry. For the Gas Services 6012 NVQ, CORGI worked with GWINTO (Energy & Utility Sector Skills Council SSC) to align it with ACS so that operatives achieving the NVQ do not also require ACS. The NVQ’s are a vocational qualification of which a fundamental element requires practical experience.

However, for the plumbing NVQ, BPEC, and more latterly the Summit Skills SSC, include ACS as an integral part of the plumbing NVQ rather than align the plumbing NVQ with ACS. Prior to taking ACS assessment CORGI expects plumbing NVQ candidates to have developed a meaningful portfolio showing evidence of gas work experience.

Review of the ACS rules was to address the issue of operatives wishing to take ACS who do not hold an NVQ or do not have other documented gas work experience.

As part of its fundamental review of gas safety HSE established Working Group 3 to consider competence issues in the gas industry. This Group was consulted on the revision to the rules and supported the approach taken by CORGI and the HSE, endorsing the issue that those operatives with no gas work experience should not be allowed to enter the ACS process. WG 3 includes representatives from BPEC, APHC and HVCA. HSE considers that consultation through this Group is both adequate and suitable.

CORGI is responsible for ensuring that applicants to the CORGI register are competent to undertake gas work. It has been possible in the past for clearly intelligent people to pass an assessment in a controlled environment. However, CORGI and the HSE are not convinced that they have sufficient depth of experience to be able to apply that knowledge in practical situations without the necessary support. Therefore it is not in the interests of consumer protection that they should be allowed to legally undertake gas work.

    2/

With this in mind, Working Group 3 agreed that operatives intending to take ACS for the first time should have to demonstrate relevant gas work experience. To support that process CORGI issued guidance on what it believes are reasonable levels of experience. For example, CORGI’s guidance for central heating boilers is a training duration of 14 weeks. This guidance also takes account of the 15 core gas safety competencies including flueing, ventilation and pipe work. Also that operatives working on central heating will normally be spending much of their time on the wet side of the system, electrics etc.

Whilst it is not CORGI’s intention to stop anybody undertaking gas work who is competent to do so, it is important that operatives who have yet to demonstrate that they can apply competence, first work in a safe environment before they work on their own. This is already recognised in vocational qualifications as a fundamental principle.

    Re: Let’s draw another comparison

Lets draw a few comparisons in the “service industry” shall we ?

We took a photocopier in to be repaired recently, Β£40 inspection fee plus labour to repair it, and that is us taking it to them !!

That’s more than we get paid for many in guarantee repairs, and we have to get to the customer, with all of the expenses involved in van’s etc.
