    Re: Oi, stop it!

It’s hard to get a handle of just what is expected from DASA, less than a year ago it was get rid of the ineffective director. That was done.
Then is was ask the grass roots of the membership what they wanted. That was done. Then it was update the cop, that is in the process of being done. then it was amend the constitution. That is also in the process of being done.

From the mebership report DASA was mandated by it’s members to forge new stronger link’s with manufacturers, work providers, and other associations such as RETRA & FSB.

Given that the report was only completed one week before the AGM and only Officially released on the day of the DASA AGM. Less than four weeks ago. Then In all fairness I dont think anyone has been dragging their feet.

DASA had all three of the leading work providers not only in attendance, but giving presentations, One of them actually appologised for the way it’s previous management had treated independant service providers in the past, from the floor of the AGM.

Granted it was UKW that fought the battle, but it was at DASA that they came to make their peace.

So less than four weeks from the AGM, DASA are trying to carry out the wishes of their members in seeking out and forging these links and are in mid negociations with an organisation (that could have potentially doubled the mebership of DASA) who specifically requested confidentiality. When all of a sudden the rugg is pulled from under their feet because one of the admin team from UKW decides to betray information given him in confidence.

I have stressed many times that It was always my hope to see UKW & DASA working hand in glove with one another for the good of this trade and for the most part even when a lot of criticisum was fired at DASA this was taken on board and acted on and accepted as constructive.

But the release of priviledged information on UKW at a critical time in their endevours to help turn round the fotunes of DASA can only be described as a destructive act with no saving merit in it’s motives.

In this case I strongley agree with Martin that this thread should be removed from the site. perhaps you could run a pole in the war room for those who would agree with both Martin and I or do we not enjoy the democracy that DASA does.

    JMHO.

With the dramatic increase in speed camera’s I wonder how many of us lot are in the same boat and dont realise it. If an engineer knows he has lost his licence I wonder how many are prepaired to blag it, in the hope that no one finds out because it means they are effectively unemployed without a valid licence.

    Re: Talking to retailers

Closer links with retailers was what I had in mind when I suggested to ken that we have a retail corner forum.
What we now need to do is encourage as many retailers as possible to use it. Some of us are involved with retail as part of our business, Whilst others concentrate exclusively on the service and repair side, Yet the fact still remains that we can learn a great deal from one another. This fact has also been recognised by DASA who since the recent AGM are in the process of forming links between both RETRA and AMDEA.

So if you are out there repairing appliances in Independant Retail stores then why not be a spokesperson for UKW and bring our site to the attention of the Retail side of our trade. The more we learn from one another the better.

    Re: working together

That is exactly why we should all get more involved with it. I know that it is a a bind having to take time out from our work. But I dont think anyone will argue that it was the guy’s in this very room that were responsible for instigating the removal of the biggest, longest running gobshite of them all namley CH.

We were able to do that because we were working from the inside, and were successful in being able to inject some backbone into the organisation and swayed enough people to back our move. We were so successful that when it came to the vote it was practically unanimous.

As you have just found out, if you are not there, others will be.
DASA is still a good information route, we should be more involved if only to watch our own backs.
We somtimes have to work for people we dont like very much. The same is true in that we somtimes have to work with people we dont like very much. But as long as we stick together and stay in control of the information routes, both of them that is, we have nothing to fear and we could also do ourselves and the trade a lot of good into the bargin.

After a quick few pm’s between Ken and Myself I am now up to speed on the story so far. For my part, if this was done with the full knowledge that it would be to the detrement of one of the members of this forum, then I am very disappointed to think that one of our own could even have considered it let alone assist.

That should bring memories of a pretty revealing conversation to mind and why, in the end, I shut up. I tried, you tried, they didn’t. When someone is as intent on not listening as that then really, there’s no point in trying too hard.

And who would this be in reference to may I ask ? Not being there and all 😉

    Dave.

    Hi Dave,

A certain Lady (for want of a better descriptive) actually had the timerity to suggest that niether Ken nor I have honest faces.

I was not aware that any poachin’ of other peoples turf was goin’ on. if that is the case then I’m right behind you. But if we are talkin about CDSL
work. Then those have been Roy’s tactics for the last twenty years. I realise that you have his ear Kev but I have to admit That I am not as convinced about him as you are. It has always been his modus operandi
to let you think you have exclusivity of an area and then start to hive pieces of it off. With the excuse, when you eventually find out about it, that it is only second tier back up cover. And which Phil are we talkin about ?

    Re: working together

    Ken,

To be fair, the woman was smashed out of her f**king skull Friday night and her better half, eventually had to practically carry her upstairs to the room.
That does not mean to say that you have in any way misjudged the motives behind the sentiments she passed that night, or her other half passed, earlier in the week.

My point is this. That for all his resentment of our little knitting circle of trade terrorist’s, he has taken our comments very much to heart and has actually offered his services to help re-write the DASA constitution, which let’s face it is no mean task.

We all sat there on saturday and listned to Steve Clark’s reasons behind AMDEA’S decision to re write their’s so onme can only assume it will be along similar lines, at least as far as the COP is concerned.

Which is what we were all askin for. So do you not see a little irony in that. 😉

Leave them alone, and they will come home, wagging their tails behind them.

    Del
