i have often had coils on this type of motor go open because the wires snap where they are soldered to the terminals
if yes you can resolder the wire and extend it if needed using short lengths of 15A fuse wire

Moderatorits still fat from the cooking process leaking out and contaminating the earth cable. its is not burning, earth cables never do as there is no current flowing through them

cooling fan is conntrolled by a thermostat so if its not working it could be the stat or the fan but if it was not working it would trip overheat stat ant the unit would turn off
none of this would make it trip

you should be testing on a high ohms scale from one of the element terminals to the metal body (chassis) of the appliance
you also need to disconnect both wires from the element being tested to stop false readings

Moderatorwell hopefully the play is in the bearing itself. If the bearing is loose on the shaft then your in trouble
