…Well, I still want an engineer out to confirm this is how it’s meant to be, because I’m sure it’s not right.”
Me: “I can come out but you need to understand if the machine starts fine with the door closed, then you’ll still be charged a call out charge.”
Her: “A call out charge! When I have a machine under guarantee?”chris i see your point but this is the type of person dill is talking about who needs that little bit of TLC and the benefit of your genetically inherited braincells. my response to that is to talk her gently into agreeing that yes the machine works fine when the door is shut first, and then point out to her that shes still in control of when the machine starts, she just has to have the door shut first. if shes still stroppy and wants an engineer, suggest as the machine is still operational, you will do her a goodwill checkover f/o/c but it will be inside say a week, when an engineer is in her locality.
the p/i/t/a customers im talkign about, that dill may or may not go out of his way for are the ones who bash you down on price, you then find a nightmare of a plumbing job cos they wan del&conn, ones comet currys and even local plumbers prolly turned down, you tell them that you cant really fit it then the naggy wife pleads so she can get some washing done, so you go ahead and fit but tell them its at their own risk, and they need to get things righted asap as their plumbing wont allow machine to operate properly in the long term then lo and behold complains 3 months later cos manufacturers engineer has charged then a callout cos its not quite up to installaion standards and wants you to foot the bill or give them a refund as its not ft for purpose….

here, here,
there must be something in the cornish air that doesnt make dills customers quite so demanding 😯
its always they ones who want comet/currys prices that also want the customer service beyond any reasonable level too. plus they tell their friends theyve found a pushover shop, who also go to you and end up creating even more grief. they are also the ones who dont actually know what to buy. and give you no information to go on… “alright mate i need a new washing machine” ok… what were you looking for? “your best deal, but not too expensive. looking to pay about £200”. in my experience trouble customers always tell you their price point as their first consideration

bearings seizing is usually down to leakage from the main impellor seal kit, so you would have to have one of those too. your right, it isnt an easy repair but it is pretty straightforward if your practically minded. the hardest part is working out how to open up the appliance but id be tempted to let hubby go for it first and see how he does. theres a few people on here willing to talk you thru the procedure, if you order your parts from the ukwg shop and then theres the satisfaction of fixing it. The biggest test hubby will have will be working out how to get into the base.
firstly what he needs to do is unplug & unplumb machine
then remove the 4x t20 torx screws located on the left and right edges of the carcass holding the side panels on. tehy are buried a little way inside the rubbery plastic sealing strips
then ideally work outside if its nice as there will be spillages of water. it needs to lay it on its back, but jacked up in the air, ideally lifted onto a workmate for example. then slide the spring hinges out from the base, unscrew the front metal trim plate attactched to the plastic base (2x more t20 screws) and 2x brass t20 screws from the rear, and 2x t20 from the front that screw into/thru the plastic base. then disconnect the water chamber from LHS and base should slide off. theres not a lot of wiring legth free so its usefull to have a large old cardboard box to rest it on or something similar. ah london prices eh…
So what IS your max budget ?
probably £350-£400 max…
in all honesty you wont get much better than a new bosch for those figures, if you pushed the budget a bit more youd get a siemens for £420-£460 mark, possibly with a 5yr guarantee but thats about it.

Told him to look harder online as there was no way I’d be helping him any further. Lost a sale but the satisfaction – and probably future hassle saved – was worth it .
something i picked up from the appprentice last year which ive used twice since in situations like that after theyve negotiated the price right down and then say theyll pop back after having a think about it. i know full well its outside onto the blackberry or back home to the net. then they are back and wanting the same price and i have to tell them i cant do it any more because its been sold (at ticket price) then they say but you can get another in cant you, and im like yep but it wont be for this mornings price. im nice enough that if i can ill still knock a bit off because they want to take it boxed and for cash, but if they wont put a deposit down, i wont hold an agreed price unless im desperate to get rid of deadstock 😆

Cant be that old then, 5-6 years? can you read off the FD code for us? that will confirm the age – its the 4 small numbers under the ER no. probably starting with an 8xxx
Rabbitgirl wrote:It needs a new pump and that is £160 then it would be the labour on top of that
Ah the engineer is quoting for the circulation motor/pump (part 489658 – £142 direct from bosch inc p&p+vat – see if he can reduce it or offer to get it direct yourself, in which case ask KWATT on here if he can get it for you for the same price)
The other thing is do you know how they have come to the conclusion this motor has had it? i.e have they actually taken it off or taken any panels off to inspect it? a lot of the time the motor just needs a new impellor kit and seals, and sometimes housing too, or sometimes just a start capacitor. is it possible the engineers priced it high for the worst case scenario?
Rabbitgirl wrote:I have been quoted between £80 and £100 for a two hour job as ball park figures so up to £260
seems a bit steep, but depends whos doing the work i guess – and tbh i havent ever had to do a slimline yet but i can normally replace/refurbish the circulation motor on a full size bosch in about 30-45 mins assuming disconnection from plumbing isnt a pig…
Rabbitgirl wrote:the repair on a machine that is old and probably not running as efficiently as a new one.
those internals are probably the same as the internals on a new bosch/siemens… and you may save 4-5 litres of water max over a current model

definitely heats up, was first place i checked as i know hoovers have corroded terminal issues, and have had it go thru a 90* wash ok too so will assume it might be pcb then :s
diagnostics would still be useful to have just in case tho,

ParticipantRe: New Dishwasher needed – recommendations?
other than miele, bosch or siemens tbh!
£160 doesnt sound that expensive, what was the quote of the repair for?
also how old is the dishwasher?? anything under 10yrs, then £160 is defo worht spending on it!
bear in mind cheapest new slimlines will be chinese, without much change from £200 anyway, then you have bekos that will be about £240ish in climline form, so £160 is still looking at good value. it also depends on how much of a guarantee your engineer is offering for the repair. but still, if its a lot of work, £160 is worthwhile, if its just a seal, then your being ripped off!
more info inc bosch dw model number please 🙂
pps. this isnt a quote from premier electrics is it?

ParticipantRe: where has all the work gone
its pretty simple. the repair work has gone because cust think they can get a bargain off freebay or gumtree, same with new sales. this month, s/h requests are more than double new appliance enquiries. fortunately, with our repair knowledge, we have been able to convert majortiy – about 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of s/h enquiries to aucessful repairs. just take a look at ebay and see the prices of s/h cookers and washers, both are ridiculously high, borderline specialist s/h or refurb shop prices, but its still cheaper to buy a decent bosch s/h than a new currys essential for example. and heres where the multiples are goign to have to learn, they have compressed prices so much so that quality has had to suffer to an extent and enough to put customers off returning… and they forget that unhappy customers talk…

martin, dont spose you have diagnostics for an hnl 3136 (iirc) as ive just replaced the pump on one which was knackered & timing out on drain, but a week later, its still not behaving properly 🙁
