Re: Hotpoint BWD129 – flashing lights!

Unfortunately this equates to a software/eeprom error. Not a simple DIY fix. It may be possible to rectify this fault without parts but the only people who have the laptops enabled with the software to do this are Hotpoint/Indesit engineers. 😥 If it is under 5 years old then you are covered by their 5 year parts guarantee, so that may be your best option.
Their labour charge is just under £90 though.

I’m sorry, but this fella pto’s attitude is something that we do not need.

Last post in this thread. http://tinyurl.com/kjluy

If he does get trade access we will need to keep a very close eye on him. To be honest I feel one of Ken’s very rare banning orders on the horizon.

I was tempted to add a sarcastic smiley after asking him to let us know how he gets on, my finger was twitching but I may get my chance later. 😀

I think if you take the trouble to read my post carefully, you will see that I did not say you need to remove drum to ID the parts. I clearly state ‘you need to give us the PNC or product number to ID the parts’.

I then added a bit of useful information for anyone thinking of attempting this very difficult repair.

Do let us know how you get on.

Tell him to get his hand in his pocket and buy you a new dryer. Your machine was produced in December 1991. Seven years old indeed. 😆

Timer is over £50 and there are several parts now obsolete for that machine.

    This should do it.

Right Click My Computer, select properties, click the Advanced Tab and at the bottom select Environment Variables, in there click on New then in the popup windows specify variable name as file handles and variable value as 135.

You would need to give us the PNC or product number to ID correct parts.
Bearing changes ( two bearings & seals ) on these machines are considered one of the more difficult jobs in the trade. the whole drum has to be removed complete then split in half. A long and arduous task. Most definately not a DIY fix.

Be sure to remove mains plug if you intend to proceed further.

Almost certainly the old door lock at fault, a very common problem . If you want to be sure you can always put the original one back and try it. 😉

    I didn’t mean that of course. 😆

madrat wrote:I dont agree Pto, White knight do a standard reverse tumbler for £125 and they are brilliant, ours is 7 years old and is used almost every day apart from in the summer and has never given a problem. Yes I belive in fixing it if you can, but the fact that the timer and reverse action has gone sounds very expensive 🙁

And permit me to disagree with you. Certain Hotpoint models of this vintage have timers that cost a modest £27 + vat. That is why the full model number is essential to identify the correct timer.
The timer & reverse action are one and the same on basic Hotpoint dryers, certain condensor dryers function differently.

There are many hundreds of dishwahers in this ‘ultra soft water’ part of the country that have worked perfectly for many years without salt of any kind.

    Re: HOTPOINT WD 69

If the knob is OK then you should hear two distinct clicks as you turn the timer ON & OFF. Just pull the knob off and it will be obvious if it has cracked.

Did you you get the e-mail I sent you?

PS. Edited the thread title, don’t want gegsy coming over all peculiar when he sees 69. 😆
