eastlmark wrote:Pretty sure that there is no plastic pulley on the motor shaft, the belt should run in grooves on the metal shaft of the motor with 2 plastic, spring tensioned pullies either side of the belt tensioning it.
This model has a single plastic pulley mounted directly on the motor casting Mark. A real pain to change the belt on these.

How old is this machine, was it bought as new? if so is it not still under warranty?
If the plastic pulley is the only obvious damage then a repair should be viable. If the machine is not new then a date code ( first two numbers of serial number) would be a big help. There have been some modifications to the drum support front bearings that are a ‘must do ‘ if you intend to keep this appliance.
There are special tools to assist in refitting the belt on this machine.

Sad to say but looking at your picture I don’t think the heater alone has caused that amount of damage. I would not go as far as to say I would eat K Heath if I was wrong 😉 but I think you have left something in a pocket which is responsible. That is not something that is covered by the warranty but you may get lucky with a sympathetic engineer.

ModeratorRe: What can I get for my money?
Whilst £400 takes you into Bosch, Siemens mid range territory, and they are good machines, I have many hundreds of customers with Hotpoint machines that are between 15 & 20 years old and working perfectly. If you put the clothes in dirty and they come out clean, what more do you want. 😉
As long as it is not excessively noisy and you do a regular maintenance wash with good quality detergents, you should with luck, get several more years out of it.
The only parts that could be considered ‘ too expensive’ on a machine of this age are the outer/inner drum and possibly the control unit. If you have the early GDA motor with the brushes that slide out then that can also be stripped down and repaired at reasonable cost. If has never had the door interlock changed it may be advisable to do so, along with motor arcing faults, a door lock failure is one of the most common causes of control unit failure.
PS. You should also consider this. http://tinyurl.com/q6ahg 8)

F12 = communications error. one PCB is not speaking to the other. 😥
Can be anything from bad connections to failure of the electronics. Not any easy machine for DIY diagnostics, best advice is to click the link in my Sig to see if we have someone who can help you.
Plug out if you intend to investigate further.

I once did a Red Letter Day thingy, half an hour round Blackpool in a Cessna. Got to take hold of the joystick ( steady Greg 😉 ) for most of the time, absolutely brilliant. 8)

I notice that you’re being nice to them. 😉
K.
I did stumble accross a forum for these braindead, incompetent, useless, specimens of humanity and to this day I don’t know how I restrained myself from posting in the kitchen fitting ‘problems’ forum.
Darned if I can remember where it was now though. 😥

Parts diagrams are not part of the manuals for Hotpoint machines and have not been for some time now.
A parts CD rom ‘Partfinder’ is available at a considerable cost from the Indesit Company.
There are several Trade members with access to this if you don’t feel you can justify the expense, just ask for specific part numbers and we will be only to happy to help you out.
Jim.
PS. Moved to Trade Spares forum. 😉

We must have the monopoly on bozo fitters round here. I would say that on only one in ten fitted kitchens that I see, have the installers given the slightest thought to future accessibility. The most recent one I refused to do was a dishwasher installed tight up against a wall near a door. When I returned after the customer had removed it himself it was like a scene from The Shining, he had sawn off part of the door frame and chiselled into the floor in front of the machine to get it out. 😯

fasetester wrote:so in other words there is no short cuts or tips for easy removal of built in appliances just hard graft some times there is no easy way the kitchen fitters and tilers must think the will never have to be removed and is there any kind of tool for ajusting the plastic legs on these appliances 🙁 thanks fasetester.
All the short cuts have already been taken by the complete morons who install these kitchens most of the time. 😥
Most legs or feet have a hexagon shape that you may be able to get an adjustable spanner on. It varies so much from model to model, some will spin up very easily by hand if you can relieve a bit of weight off them, some get rusted and siezed in no time at all. I have used bits of old carpet, sprayed the floor with furniture polish, slid thin sheets of lino or wood under them. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say. 🙂

So would you take a hammer and chisel to expensive floor tiles that are preventing the machine from being moved Mark? I judge every job on its merits, or complete lack of them in 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases. If there is the slightest chance of me damaging any part of the installation or indeed hurting myself, I will not attempt it. I do not have the facility to repair floor coverings, cupboard doors, plumbing etc.
A picture of a kitchen fitter would be my ideal dartboard target. 😈
