    Re: Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 WMA31

A quick and simple test would be to run the machine through a programme then when it reaches the end of its cycle switch off at the mains or remove the plug imediately. If the door still takes a long time to open ( more that 2 mins) then the door interlock is faulty. Not an expensive repair, parts can be obtained via this site. Please make sure you remove the mains plug before you attempt any inspection etc.

PS. If the door opens within a couple of minutes then you have a possible control module fault which may in itself have been damaged by a fault in the door interlock, or a hose or pump blockage. If the machine is in otherwise good condition, no excessive noise when turning the drum by hand etc then it should be worth having repaired. Check the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help if needed.

    Re: Blame The Penguin!

I am a little tied up with family illness ATM to do real justice to this project but was just doing a bit of digging, bear in mind that I joined Hotpoint (BDA) in the late 60’s and left in the 70’s when it was then called Hotpoint Ltd. The Hotpoint name and history is so long and involved that it would take an absolute age to compile, given that my involvement was for only 11 years. I vaguely recall being told that a company called Canadian Light & Power was involved at an early stage ( Google brings up references to them in the 1930’s and before) I am almost certain that the name ‘Hotpoint’ came about because the company was the first to develop an electric iron that got ‘hot’ right to the toe or ‘point’.

What does frighten me even more in my very brief research is that I have actually done service calls on a couple of these machines.

This machine was first produced in 1923 😯

Not easy to remove, front panel off for access, heater at six o’clock.

I think they should put the gloves on Darrell Hair & Inzi, that would be worth watching. 😆

Resistance should be around 22Ω to 25Ω The element incorporates an internal fuse which can fail.

first of all the Pakistani’s refused to come out after tea, the umps took the bails off. Thrn about an hour later the Pakistan team came out but the umps refused to return.

Play now suspended for the day, hopefully a few heads will be brought into close proximity :bang: and tomorrow common sense will prevail.

Most machines made in the last eight or ten years, this one included will sense no rise in temp after a set period of time and then move the programme onto the next step. Often the only time the customer realises there is a problem is with a heavily soiled load.

    Re: Hotpoint WMA30- Long cycle

Have you actually timed this machine? A 60° wash will take 2hrs 20 mins or possibly even longer. If it was still on a 60°wash over 3 hours after starting it then you may have a problem. The two small wires are indeed to the NTC. This will not stop the heater working at first but if faulty could cause errors that would in fact shorten the programme.

Heater consumption 1800W @240V. Resistance 30Ω + or – 2Ω. Internal thermal fuse cuts out at 144° this is a ‘one shot’ device and will not reset

One of the biggest complaints we get in the past 5 years from customers is the extermely long wash programmes on modern washing machines.

PS. It is better to keep your posts to the original thread if possible, it keeps things tidy and makes it understandable to anyone else reading the thread.

    Re: Hotpoint Ultima 1200 wd71

It could be either the element or the NTC, if it does not get hot during wash then element is likely fault, if it gets too hot then NTC is suspect. Control units causing boiling did happen a while ago, not seen any recently though. The only way to be certain is to check out these components with the correct test equipment, and the mains plug removed of course.

Bear in mind that the 60° cycle is the AAA rated wash cycle. Average time for this wash is 2 hrs 20 mins.

If the heater is faulty the electronics should sense no rise in temperature and move the machine onto the next cycle after 10 minutes then continue to the end of the wash, rinse & spin . The only thing you would notice in this case is possible poor wash results on heavily soiled items.

All initial fills are short, timed cold only to fill the sump, this prevents the detergent being flushed into the sump hose instead of the drum. The machine then switches to hot fill for the rest of the fill unless the incoming hot supply is too hot for the programme selected, if it senses this it will fill with more cold as well. Woollen wash is cold fill only.

Take care though Bob, it can also lead to a change in your council tax status. It is possible that the room you claim business expenses on will have to be rated as business premises.

Those examples you have posted relate to ’employees’ required to work from home. You are not an employee but the owner of the said business.
