    Re: Hotpoint WD71

I know its a long shot, have checked the continuity of all the wires in the main ribbon cable, I did once have one with an internal break that nearly had me reaching for the bottle.

Does anything work, fill, pump etc ?? All I can think of is a wiring connection fault, possibly in the ribbon cables.

Jockey pulleys are quite cheap, always have both replaced at the same time. Motor bearings are also not expensive, I have replaced them in the past but it is fairly awkward. Complete motor would be too expensive.

Looking at some of the posts in this thread, with wires & plugs fitted incorrectly, posters asking about colours of wires that shouldn’t even be on the door switch etc, the ‘conclusive’ reply is to get someone out who knows what they are doing. 😉

Unlikely to be front bearing pads as such, the felt seal does fail but rarely causes noise, this machine has a plastic duct similar to the TDL modification, so you wont get metal on metal. Jockey pulleys are the most likely cause, but this machine was also prone to dampness building up in the internal exhaust which eventually damages the motor bearings. It is possible, but hardly worth it to change these bearings ( not a DIY job)

Personally I grip them tight with my mole grips, depress the small lug then tap them out with a small hammer to start, then pull out with the grips.

Its called a ‘Premier Bearing Kit’ 😆
been available for a while, the seal is a Rubena seal and does seem to be more reliable, time will tell. 😉
Part number of complete bearing kit is 1604473

Strangely enough, I fitted a complete drum assy yesterday, that came with the heater in a bag with the two plastic suspension doofers and six spider torx bolts.??

There is a float chamber connected to the water container that has a float switch in it. Access is not easy, did you transport the dryer upright or lie it down. You may have disturbed the mechanism if you did this. would suggest getting an engineer to take a look. Make sure you remove the plug if you decide to investigate further.

    Re: Hotpoint WD71

Have you checked the harness from the motor, where it is tied tightly to the cabinet near the motor, this is one place that the harness chafes through in no time at all.
Has it got an FHP or a GDA/Hotpoint motor in it. FHP are usually fairly reliable.
If the power board blew it could have damaged the control module, this has the main microprocessor and several triacs on it.

I can let you have a wiring connection diagram if that is of any use to you.

Just spotted something else, if the model is either a WD71S or WD71YS then the control module is a 1602845 not a 1602844 although they may have standardised them since the S/YS models came out.

I wondered about pressure switches, I hate integrated machines, I have asked the customer to make the machine accessible, there is no way I am removing laminated flooring, side panels etc.

Why would that cause the timer to advance past an OFF position and a couple of programmes, and why did the dryer fan motor kick in when the dryer timer was set to OFF ?
When set to spin the motor does not run at all and yet on the wash I managed to get it to do, it ran smoothly.

    Re: Zanussi ZJD1285

    i wish I hadn’t bothered. 😀

Timer knob & programme dial seem Ok, selected all 5 separate OFF positions first and switched on, all seem to be in line.

first tried prog F (long spin) drains for a few seconds ( no motor action ) then timer starts to advance, at next step ‘G’ the dryer fan motor kicks in even though the dryer timer is OFF. It continues to step past the OFF position and on through prog H & J stopping just past K. If I set it to a 40 degree wash it seems to fill normally and tumbles fine. ( at least it did once)
Try to set it to H and sometimes it advances past K but on one occasion it started to tumble with little or no water.

Set to R ( short spin) drains for 10/15 seconds then advances once then sticks on fill/drain., ( no motor action)
Set to L starts to empty for a few seconds then clicks once and goes dead.

    Faulty timer ❓ ❓

Not able to get the machine out ATM, fairly dodgy installation requiring major dismantling.
