And you claim to be a Yorkshireman Martin, to ‘fettle’ or ‘fettling’ is a very common northern expression for mending or fixing something. 😉

    4,325 resolved in one day?

At 10 calls per engineer that’s 432.5 engineers doing nothing but dryer mods, at a more realistic 6 calls per day that is 702 doing nothing but dryer calls, just doesn’t ring true unless they have totally abandoned all their other calls?

Are these dryers not subject to the recall?

They are pumping some garbage in between the truths. The old dear was obviously talking about the fluff that had built up inside the filter. :rolls:

Clean the motor commutator and blow out all the old carbon dust. Unless the motor bearings sound rough or noisy then leave them alone.

Not feasible, that motor is little different to motors fitted to most machines today apart from being better made.

For the cost difference and as it is for a close friend I am going to try a new carbon brush and see what happens. 🙂

Edited your post Boz, there was no gap before https. 😉

Re question #4. We never get any limescale in this very soft water area.

Re: John Lewis heat pump dryer.

Just returned from this call, error code E32 = wiring, worn carbon brush sensor, pcb.

As you would expect with a previously untouched dryer of recent vintage all wiring looks perfect.

Carbon brush ‘appears’ to be making good contact and has a shiny surface but I have no idea just how worn this one is. Looking at one or two pictures online I would say not much????

I am tempted to try a new brush assembly, any comments.

    PNC is 916096487 00 BTW. 😉

    Jim.

At the bottom, front. There is a flip down plastic panel behind the lower kickstrip.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

Had a PM last night from a new public forum member asking for part numbers for his dryer, a CTD80. I advised him about the recall and he said his has just been done but now his dryer does not work and he is having difficulty getting anyone to accept responsibility or do a recall.
Seems his was one that needed a drum change as well and the engineer did not refit the sensing strap correctly to the new drum.

Visual inspection of board components usually reveals any damage caused by short circuits.

Re: Doh…..no power to my dishwasher

You may well have blown the upper control system or the main pcb, remove the mains plug FIRST and visually examine the pcb for component damage.

The whole of the top control assembly comes as a single unit costing over £80.00, the main pcb in the base is even more expensive and needs to be programmed as well.

Is that a large drawer along the bottom, sometimes if you pull that right out you may find a model number.
