ModeratorOnly a couple of revolutions suggests that it is more than a seal problem, sounds like the new bearings are not seated perfectly tbh.
I hardly ever put grease on Hotpoint bearing seals and I have done many hundreds over the years.

Moderatorandyjawa wrote: Yes that is right at trade price as a pattern part. Only mentioned for the benefit of the public is do note that the cir-clip is often not fitted if a pattern part and is easily not noticed so it needs to be removed from the old spider and refitted to the new spider. If you do not do this the phosphor bronze (?) hub gets damaged and water gets in and nukes the bearings.
The Hotpoint WM series had a couple of niggly issues, the more basic one such as my WM56 being one of the better ones, but I have to say across the series they`re by no means a bad machine. Anyone who still has one is well recommended to keep hold of it for as long as possible, Hotpoint pcboard electronics from this era were pretty good as was the guage of wires used and end tags. Made in England too. One of those series where parts are still fairly plentiful with a fair number of decent pattern parts around as a cheaper option though Hotpoint have increased parts prices on these models recently. I`ve just changed both dampers on mine 2 weeks ( well worth 20 quid trade price ) ago so no more leaping around in a bid to escape the kitchen!Erm, made in Wales actually.;)

ModeratorI would always change the seal on a basic washer but the seal for the washer dryer is quite expensive, it also comes with new clips that are totally useless so even if I did fit a new seal I used the old clips. In most cases I made sure the old seal was well cleaned and as long as it was the square section seal I very rarely had one leak.

ModeratorBearings done without any drum removal. The drum front is removable. As I said the washer dryer is not as easy as the basic washer. One of the lower concrete weights needs to be removed and the dryer heater box restricts things as well.

ModeratorAt that price for complete spider and bearing kit absolutely. The chances of your existing spider being corroded is very high, it may already have a slight fracture that is allowing the drum to catch the heater.

ModeratorBearings definitely shot, the sooner they are replaced the better. Given the low cost a drum spider and bearing kit would be the way to go.

ModeratorAny obvious noise with the belt off is not good. Actually the full drum support and main bearing kit is very inexpensive on these. A bit harder to change than on the basic washing machine but well worth it if needed. Plus a new heater of course.

ModeratorOne quick way to check the bearings is to remove the belt and spin the drum by hand as fast as you can, it should be virtually silent with the belt off. The heating element can go down to Earth without sustaining any damage. It was quite common to see two grooves in line with the front lip of the drum on the element on the WM range of washing machines. The heater is a little further away from the drum on the WD washer dryer so drum damage is not as common. The fact that it would spin with the element disconnected points to a faulty element.

ModeratorBearings are steel not ceramic, the other bits could be part of the outer plastic drum, rubbed off due to inner drum being out of line. Is there any ‘up and down’ movement of the inner drum?

ModeratorIf you get an E14 error with the heater disconnected that would suggest you need to replace it if it then spins OK.

ModeratorAlthough not likely on a washer dryer I have seen the inner drum catching the heating element due to a failing drum spider giving a ‘Check Outlet’ when there was no blockage. If the motor carbon brushes are fine then I would be putting my megger across the wash heater to check for low insulation.

ModeratorGlad it helped, as long as you can put up with the voice over on the video saying “ you can easily “ every few seconds they are very good.
