Maybe its a case of they know independents are fed up of the crap payments being offered so they are trying to play what they percieve to be a ace card in the equation by be threatening ? The industry is imploding on itself, when it does completely things will change. Those that survive will be in the best position imo to call the shots. Trouble is how many will survive ?

i have always found simple maths works , complicate it with loads of probailities and percentages based on past performance just makes it harder to explain and comes across as a white wash imo.

depends how you buy as well and where from, not always buying direct from the manufacturer is the cheapest either. on a 300 quid middle of the road washing machine you would be looking around the 70-80 ish profit.

    Re: Sold The First One

no its not aggressive but common sense. of course no manufacturer is going to guarantee any thing but this is a different ball game is it not? to try and make something for the independants, to say maybe i know better than you is somewhat condescending, you didnt answer my points, where is the pos, and where is the assuarity of the 5 yr gurantee being met , you cant say in absoulute that because of some financial backing it wont go tits up (i hope it doesnt, realise what ive just put) but you have to accept that there are ppl and yes im one of them who wont take things at a face value. You come across as an intelliegent person so im sure you can apprecitate there other people just as intelligent but look at things in completely different way, its not meant to be offensive but more trying to get to the nitty gritty of things, thats how some of us survive! there is no offense intended on my part.

    Re: Sold The First One

personally atm i wont sell an ise, there doesnt seem to be a spares back up besides stripping a machine to fulfull that requirement, there is nothing in place to safeguard us as a retailer of the product should it go tits up in respect of honouring the 5 yr guarantee, underlaw if ise went tits up then we would be exoniarated (maybe) but we have for sure lost customers. my view is this, you should not have realeased the product without the spares of so called 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} being made available as van stock, the warranty should be underwritten in such a manner that it would be fulfilled no matter what.

Now i hope it suceeds but from my point of view and i bet im not the only one thinking this atm its not exactly a rosey prospect. so lets have some pos and some real evidence that spares will be fulfilled and the warranty will be backed up no matter what , is that to much to ask? business is business , faith doesnt come into it.

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

i dont quite see the link between the white goods service industry and it becoming regulated to wether a person can get a plumber or not. But having said that plumbers are 2 a penny down this neck of the woods so maybe i should relocate 🙂

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

Personally i think there is a certain amount of over reaction going on here.

Any legislation will come from the odp and the hse, two departments which are a literal law unto themselves, self regulation and training etc is not something those depts will actually take any notice of. As has been pointed out, CORGI.
Having said that you cannot draw a comaprison between gas appliances and electrical appliances (whitegoods). Gas appliances are static objects, they stay where they are installed but in their operation to be safe alot of external factors have to be considered eg ventialtion etc etc. A washing machine is not dependent on outside variables to work correctly, yes it has to be safe within its self and be earthed etc, but its also an object that is moved, to a new home maybe or the dump when the owner decides to ditch it, its unplugged and thats the end of it. So surely there is a case to say that service engineers in the future will have to be qualified to a level of competance on electrical safety? because thats what the hse is all about and of course there will be a registration fee that goes without sayin ! There is already a recognised electrical competance scheme in place which is a fraction of the £2000 figure being bounded about.

Just another angle to look from maybe before we all go having heart attacks over what may or may not be ulitmately required.
