It will be a Chinese made dishwasher, nothing different from Haier or Midea, probably got something jammed in pump or flooded base tray.

Re: connect: cost of parts to publc

I have accounts with a lot of suppliers, I do check occasionally but generally due to the fact I repair integrated high end or obscure brands most of the time the only one having it in stock will be Connect (and no customer want’s to wait 3 weeks for a part), I agree their prices are high and I have had customers checking part prices on line after we have completed a repair, if they question it I advise them that they agreed to the price before we fitted the part and prices vary enormously on spare parts depending on genuine or pattern parts.

So dead I would rate it as a 2 on Martin’s scale, very busy December but this month I should have gone on holiday if I could have afforded it (not on a Med cruise though !)

Just renewed my contract about 6 months ago, the minimum contract for a mobile one like I have got is for 3 years, if I can change it to another one then count me in.

    lee8 wrote:Its simple.

Electrical and Gas are separate within an appliance and classed differently, both requiring proof of competence and neither can be worked on without the required level and in the case of Gas registered as such.

Trainees cannot work in clients homes until they have passed assessment, then registered, then they shadow an Engineer.

The course is designed to train peeps from no knowledge to competent without the need to work in peoples home first.

It amazes me how people in our industry still don’t grasp it.
It amazes me but I for once Lee8 has posted something I totally agree with ! 😯
I recommend anyone who is training someone on Gas appliances checks with your local assessment centre and Gas Safe Register as to what they can or can’t do, at the end of the day the buck lies with you the Employer.

mirmay wrote:As far as I know, we are on a normal contract, but like you said, “But if the person doesn’t know…”!! I have an opinion that since the service side has been re-badged as OnCall we are a separate company probably contracted to Comet group PLC so that if/when Comet is sold, whoever buys it will likely only want the retail part – the bit that brings the money in – and not the service department which costs the company money. If this is so it would then be easy to end said contract and OnCall is left to sink or swim.

Or am I just a bit cynical?
No you are not cynical, the same happened to me in the early 90’s as I was an Engineer with the Electricity Board (SWEB) they made different Companies up and I was part of SWEB Retail after it and when it got sold off I got made redundant as it was a loss maker, years move on but the practices stay the same bud !

Re: Elba PXDO60 main oven failure

Both ovens will have a selector switch, this switches on different components depending on what is set by you with what the oven can do, the thermostat for each oven is connected to each selector switch this whole assembly then controls which elements, light or fan is switched on and the thermostat controls the temperature in the oven there after, if any of these components fail then your oven will not work correctly.
If you have changed the fan element (round one by the fan) without electrically testing it (resistance about 25ohms)and it still won’t work then you have probably wasted your money on an element, the fault will more than likely be with selector switch or any over heat safety thermostat fitted, hope this helps.

    Re: Leisure Cookmaster 100

TOC lead is a fuse, if it overheats it will go open circuit and the timer and half of your range cooker will not work, as it’s a dual fuel range cooker with a gas hob I cannot give you any further information other than I would advise you seek a qualified Engineer to complete this repair, sorry.

    Re: Leisure Cookmaster 100

Replacing or bypassing the timer won’t resolve this problem, it will be the TOC lead at the rear of the cooker behind the back panel that supplies the timer that is open circuit, it will need replacing

Re: Elba PXDO60 main oven failure

If it has a selector switch (different oven settings) it will need replacing along with the complete wiring loom, common fault with Elba/De Longhi range cookers
