ParticipantRe: my home connect @ currys
Cancelled our meeting after I talked to my Business Manager at the Bank, he feels it does not seem quite right and advised against paying out or even giving any account details to a Company that cannot be checked out or is using a National Company name like Currys to ‘sell’ their product.
I am also going to e-mail Currys head office to find out if they know about this.

Has anyone tried Currys yet to see if this genuine or not ?
I cant see them being to happy if their name is being used in some type of how can I say it ‘recruitment’ for a network they know nothing about!!

ParticipantRe: Staggering Really
Ken, I havent posted for quite some time but I have a point on this subject, my son left school last summer and is still struggling to try and get into this Industry, a trade he knows well and has been involved with me for the last few years, I cannot afford the cost of training him and the wages even at the minimum wage as we are too small a business, I recently enquired about grants etc for him and was asked the usual questions disabled, ethnic background, learing disabilities the list goes on.
If as I am sure I had said my son was from Eastern Europe with some sort of physical or mental disdability i’m pretty sure I would have a Trainee engineer at the moment but sad to say i am still trying to get him on the ladder with any contacts I can find within the trade, no luck as yet.
regards

ParticipantRe: Service Software
It’s a frightening cost for small one man set ups, but I’m now in the situation where i have to get something and Eurorealm is the only one i can afford really ( and thats pushing it ), so if you come up with something fairly soon Ken I would very interested.

Alex,
Got quoted a minimum 10 grand from Job Logic for their system, Eurorealm actually came down to Devon from Reading to give me a demonstration, I thought it was very good and at 2.5 grand for the basic system much cheaper.

The LED’s on the door then show three flashing and one on constant – which doesnt correspond to any of the error messages in the manual (helpful!).
This sounds like an E7 fault common to the Diplomat (Smeg made) D/washers, the Diplomat version can be reset quite easily, i think i have seen a thread on this on the site but if anyone wants the reset details PM meDave

ParticipantRe: Unpaid customer invoices
I got our PDQ through Barclay Merchant, could have bought it for about £600 I think, but I pay monthly for it a bit like a mobile phone, I know the cost is quite high at about £30 a month but it saves me a lot of hassle which I think outweighs the cost for me, with Chip and PIN coming in on Jan 1st i think customers will get used to using this system more and will feel a lot more comfortable about it.
I don’t get many problems, only the occasional shall I say older customer who finds it difficult to understand electronic payments, anything that saves me time and hassle is a bonus for me.

Martin,
It’s not a problem, we don’t take any payment from the card untill work is complete we only authorise it, same as when you book a Hotel room etc over the phone, it’s easier than cheques as going to the Bank in the centre of town is a nightmare and I don’t mind paying a little extra for credit cards, debit cards arn’t to bad about the same cost as paying in a cheque, we just find it more secure for us and the customer, we have a mobile PDQ terminal and the card is entered on site in front of the customer and they enter they PIN number into it the same as a shop transaction, quick and easy and no ‘rubber’cheques, it obviously costs us to do this but I prefer the convenience of it and the extra cost is just added to our charges, our profit margin stays the same.

ParticipantRe: Unpaid customer invoices
I have got so fed up with this problem that I do not even attend a cash call now without the customer supplying a valid credit or debit card details so we can authorise it before we even go there, I do not accept cheques anymore, mainly due to the Bank charges paying them in but also the ‘rubber’ ones even with a cheque card, taking the card details is the only way we can control the situation.
Most customers are quite happy with this, I can’t really see any other way of completely covering yourself but generally as has been said you can suss out a dodgy call most of the time.
