Re: First Post In An Undiscovered Country

Sean you’re trying to defend the indefensible really. And, I maight add, doing a bloody good job at it.

Pity you’re the one it’s been left to isn’t it?

Do you not see what’s actually happening with DASA? Sod all whilst there is no-one there to lead it, that’s what. Yes they’re making little strides here and there, no-one’s arguing that they are not trying but quite simply they cannot devote the time to do the job right at the moment. I have said many, many times that I don’t blame any of them for that as putting food on the table is the first order of business and using the position to do that is fine by me, to an extent.

What does aggrieve me is where the work is carved up before it even gets out of the gate and that happens all to often with DASA. Simply because all that is handled at council, by the council. So the very people that pass out the work offer are the very people that want first dibs at it so there’s no fairness in the system.

Mark and jason are not doing what they do for the love of it, they’re doing it for what they can get from it. Mark will openly admit that he’s gotten what he wants from DASA, now he’s too busy to care about it most of the time. Do you really think that the others are any different bar the odd exception?

    However to address your points…

The Rochford report as you and I both know, was a joke. That could have been easily done in many other ways and told us absolutely nothing that was not already known to all. IMO it was a waste of money.

The constitution and COP review were instigated at the AGM, I would lay good odds it won’t be done for this AGM.

I have already made my feelings on AMDEA very clear and to Mark directly as he did call me about it. I have also made the dangers in any formal association very clear as well.

Yes the AGM did go well for DASA, nobody ever said otherwise as it looked pretty well organised TBH.

Carole Madden would take any opportunity at all to make NESN look good, it’s hardly like she has a choice! 😆

But even with that, she still did fuck all about the gagging order on Kevin did she? So whilst I may tolerate her, I don’t trust her. With that in mind, she may well have apologised, but didn’t back that up with actions and, you’ll note, they still have not changed the contract and have, in fact, threatened to use the restrictions therin since the AGM.

How far have they got with their directory? The last I saw a week or so ago there was only really a few associate members anyway.

Orbit, ah yes… now, who did that I wonder? 😆

As to working closer with DASA, yes we can do that. There’s even some stuff that reall DASA should be doing but it has neither the infrastructure or the drive to see the job done, as has been proved time without number.

In short, it needs led by someone. That someone would have to control it and control the internal politics of it as well as all the other duties or it will simply spiral into an oblivion eventually.

IF they had any sense at all they’d be doing what I told them 12 months or more ago when CH was removed and nothing went forward. Hibernate it, sort it and THEN bring it back from the dead. But they’re trying to mend the fences whilst the storm still rages and the trade is so volatile now that reaction time is critical to survival.

If you cast your mind back to the AGM you’ll remember that the pro-rata rates were mentioned, as was the renewal date as it was a hinderence to gaining new members. What’s been done about it? Correct, nothing.

Quite honestly I’m pig sick of this “us and them” crap from DASA, hence the post the other night as I want the air cleared. If they chose to go about things the way they have been and lag behind the rest of the trade then so be it, it’s their funeral and not mine.

And before you take any offence, it’s not meant that way at all, but this is historic DASA for you. You’ve only been in it a few years, I’ve seen this shite go on for the past 20 years and the removal of CH has made little difference as they just haven’t gotten off their arses to do anything about it and, when/if they do, it’s only to feed themselves work.

I had thought that the removal of CH, with the people that were there, i.e. Jason, Mark, Kevin, Phil and yourself would have seen a massive change to DASA. It didn’t other than cause even more confusion IMO.

We’ll have the meet, see what they have to say and take it from there. If it’s positive and they actually want to make a go of it then we’ll help, if it’s the same old bullshit then I’ll walk away and let them get on with it.

But please understand that DASA seem to think that they come at people from a position of power and that simply is not the case at all. The only power that they have is in some that many listen too, most of them within DASA circles, go outside that and their sphere of influence grows smaller and smaller.

In the end I don’t want to kill it but you tell me why we should be so interested in propping it up?

Guys, chill out a bit eh?

Funky, after many, many times being shafted by BG poaching staff there are a lot of guys in the independent trade more than a little jittery on the subject. Combine that with the fact that BG often come back to us looking to get bailed out when they’re in the s*** and you have a strong resentment towards them, is it really any wonder? And is it any wonder that the indies are reluctant to help BG given that BG have dropped us all in it at one point or another.

And now we hear that BG employees are being “discouraged” from even being on this site, hardly what you’d call fair play is it?

So, when we get asked to help out BG the general response is that they made their bed, let them lie in it.

However I see no reason not help in this instance but you’d probably be better to get your mate to sign up to UKW, if he’s an indoe then there’s loads of help on here.

Re: First Post In An Undiscovered Country

Yeah Sean, nice post and loads in it to answer as well.

As Kev says, when push comes to shove, we don’t really need DASA and IMHO it’s too wrapped up in it’s own internal politics and conflicts to be bothering about. We have a clear focus on what has to be done, how to do it and we’re a good ways towards delivering a shitload of it to the trade. Where’s DASA? How will DASA ever change under the current set of policies in place?

You forget that CH spent years building a little castle and they have, since removing him, done very little other than talk about change. Delivered any, no they have not.

In so far as I’m concerned, it’s their bed, they made it and they can lie in it.

If they want a bit of help from us then fine, I’m not going to do anything to jepordise DASA but I’m not going to go out my way to save it either.

In the end it’s about 10 people in DASA that actually we need to watch and that is becoming less and less relevant in the real world as time passes. The more I get comment the more I feel that they will never achieve anything for the good of the trade. Why? Simple, they are too concerned with their own agendas and well being to be concerning themselves with the needs of others. Sadly, a trade association is supposed to serve the needs of it’s members at large, not just an elitist few which DASA is doing.

And there’s why it’s viewed as an old boys club.

UKW has more influence with manufacturers etc. than you know. You are totally unaware of a lot of work that Kevin, Dave and I have done on a few people’s behalf. You also don’t know about me placing engineers for OEM service as well as independents. But you see, we have no need to go about shouting that “so and so” is talking to us to gain acceptance or indeed credence.

I mean just look at who was at Sibson Sean…

    Electrolux
    De Longhi
    CDA
    NESN
    ISDAL
    CDSL
    P&G
    Merloni

And that’s just what I can remember off the top of my head! DASA have been struggling to get attendance like we had to an AGM let alone a bi-annual meet or a council meeting.

But we don’t have to go about shouting about it and I think we’re more proffessional than that. But DASA is being left behind in many respects.

However that aside, just look at the numbers Sean, DASA has 70 members. They have not got nationwide cover by any stretch of the imagintion. They are highly politicised.

There are 4500+ companies out there carrying out repairs and only 70 are in DASA, what does that say to you? It certainly does not represent the trade, it simply can’t claim that as its membership is way too small to even consider that statement to be true. Even UKW doesn’t as, at best, we have 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the trade looking.

I have to say that I agree with Kevin on the membership thing. They are the one’s being awkward we simply want value for money, the sum of money is really irrespective and not the point at all.

As for the name calling you’re referring to my jibe with Jason I assume? In that case, TBH, if they can’t take a little joke in a private forum over it then really, what’s the point of continuing on any level? It says to me that they’re so far up their own arse that there’s little point in even talking to them.

Apart from which Phil got the points made it appears. But then he’s not trying to run DASA really.

All this shite is why I wanted to just leave it be and stay well away from DASA and, the more I hear, the less I want to know as I really don’t have the time and quite honestly, can’t be arsed, with these silly, petty little games and pandering to certain egos. And that’s all it is in the end.

Dave should be able to get that for you with no bother, but is it the inner or outer door glass that you require?

    Yep, that’s what I meant.

Scaring him off, oh well. No great loss if all he’s doing is trying to solve the odd problem that he has and, if in the course of that BG get grief then tough titty.

Yes, the Brandt thing is extremely interesting and I’ll try to get some info out GS on Monday morning first thing. I’ll report back with it in here then if it’s not for public consumption.

    Ah, that makes sense Kev.

See all the pieces of the puzzle start to snap together. It’s a shame that a good few of the Service Partners don’t read UKW and see what’s going off.

Never mind, they’ll all get a jab soon enough. 😆

He may well be doing a homer, but even so it’s a bit much to ask for tech info in here when BG are supposed to be oh so wonderful.

    Re: Fagor Buy Brandt!

Yeah but is it really going to go down that way? Somehow I don’t think things will be just as simple as that.

Consider that Brandt have staff and premises within the UK, Fagor has only a sales office to my knowledge and obviously some form of distribution chain although I don’t see any volume there based on the calls we get. The vast majority of “Fagor” calls we get are badged up machines for PABL under various guises.

The Brandt name I’ve never really seen that much other then through a couple of retailers that push it, but I do see a bit of De Dietrich here and there. But again, I do see a fair old bit of it branded, Brandt that is.

The other thing to bear in mind is, does Graham want the Brandt Group stuff on his books? Will Fagor continue with AIS given that they will have more volume now?

In the end it’s up in the air and I wouldn’t be jumping to any conclusions until the dust settles and the fat lady sings the final note.

Nope, the ball is rolling already anyway but it’s easy to add stuff like a “donate” button/link.

But yeah, we’ll keep it low key until we want it in people’s faces. We want all the stuff in place first.

The reason I posted it was to let you all know that I hadn’t forgotten about the notion and that I will keep you all up to speed on it.

Dave, agreed on the last paragraph.

On the rest, it’s all abotu perception and impression. We’ve made the gesture, whether or not there’s anything new to say or report is irrelevant really. Point is, we’ve offered and we will do it if required to do so.

As to overkilll, no, re-enforcement. 😉
