Ha, thought as much, I knew I knew the name from somewhere!

He’s one of the twats going about saying that Service Power have to be spoken to and, lo and behold, he’s ex-NESN from the Trubshaw era.

Connection, oh no, not a bit.

Re: Ideal Standard (French) Central Heating Boiler

There are several ways to accomplish that sort of system, most notably used in HA (Home Automation) sytems. Honeywell’s Smartfit system is one such device that is used extensively in the UK/EU, other than that most I’ve seen are either country specific, US or horrendously expensive.

In this case I’d suspect that it was a proprietory system unique to that manufacturer. I am certainly not aware of anything else with that sort of spec on the market and I had to get an RCS stat system a few years back that integrates with my X10 system, which with some clever computer jiggery pokery, reads and reacts to outside air temps and weather conditions as well as allowing extensive programming and monitoring options.

Most of those type of systems are very expensive in relation to the boilers due to the additional electronics, sensors and installation time.

Although, you can make it as clever as you like, if the pilot light blows out and doesn’t come back on you’re still goosed! 😉

Hehe, if you think that’s bad Phil try doing install work on a building site.

    “Where’s plot 49?”

“Dunno mate, must be down there somewhere (rough pointing in the direction of half built housing), the stuff’ll be in the place”

Re: First Post In An Undiscovered Country

Okay so the meeting looks like it will happen, fair enough. Sean, can you send me what you have so far on the agenda and I’ll scour it for you?

As to the post earlier today and last night etc in TWR, well I want the air cleared and I’d far rather be upfront and honest than skulk about. Also, if nobody else dares say it, I will.

If they take offence when it’s a quiet chat like that then really, what hope is there?

    Re: DASA/UKW Meeting

Phil, it’s just the organisation of it all, or lack thereof. Conflicting stories and supposition.

Please remember I am in no way saying its intentional or malicious at all, it’s just that stuff is being lost in translation I think. Which is why I’d rather organise this here in TWR as then we all know what’s going off and there’s no confusion. Doing stuff over the phone is fine but it can often lead to a certain confusion over what was actually said and it was partly the point of this forum.

Alex, I don’t think so. NESN are not as well informed as they might be and are still making mistakes that could cost them dearly, the TRIC thing was only one such political cock up. It looks bad and anyone with an axe to grind with NESN could easily use that against them in light of recent events, hence what I posted in public.

I got a call about the other day from someone who wished not to give me their name, one of at least two or three I’ve had regarding NESN, each one putting the boot in. It strikes me that it’s too convienent that is and sadly on each occasion the information was already out there anyway, but you get the point.

Apart from which, whilst I do hope that Jason and Mark enjoyed the evening, they did attend I am told as guests of NESN. NESN who have just shagged over a load of DASA members, DASA has said sweet fuck all about that and then the chairman and treasurer attend a paid for event (at huge cost) as guests.

How much good do think that will do for the image of DASA? On a political level it’s a fucking PR disaster! And they don’t even have to go about shouting it from the rooftops either, all that needs doing is spreading gossip amongst a few well placed people wihin the trade and the damage could be immense.

I am not having a go at either, nor at DASA. What I am saying is that, if you are in a high profile position within industry you have to watch what you do just as carefully as a politician does as mistakes can cost dearly and the effects linger for years. Just look at the legacy left by our Mr Hayter. However I am quite sure that neither Jason or Mark considered that implication and were merely looking at it from the point of view of their own businesses, sadly others will not look at it that way and, with the lack of communication of the event, it leaves the likes of Service Power loads of scope to manipulate the “spin” the way that they want, only serving to twist the knife deeper into NESN and/or DASA should they choose to do so.

In other words, it was a bad move on NESN’s part as well as for Jason and Mark. Hell, even Kevin and others have gotten flack over the holiday by CDSL as that too was seen by some as a sweetener and a jolly paid for by CDSL to buy loyalty. Now we, in here, know that that is not the case in either event, but the impression can be given that it is. As Kevin will tell you I will often remind people that “impression is everything, facts seldom matter in many ways”.

But in light of the TRIC thing comments were made before about Jason and Mark being “well in” with NESN again from various sources at Sibson so I assume that both are back working for NESN. Now you have this on top of that and, both are very high profile DASA to boot. Do the math.

But it’s not the only cock-up on the part of NESN, there’s plenty people well pissed about the £2 a call thing. That could drive them towards SP and you have some gobshites going about saying that people should be “in with them”, unsurprisingly it’s people that used to work for or with the various elements within SP. Meanwhile NESN seem to be burying their head in the sand and not doing much about it so far as I can see and, in fact, doing themselves more damage in the process.

As we have seen it’s very easy to have a go at NESN as they have obviously gotten serious financial issues and SP will try to capitalise on that fact and use it against them.

What we all forget at times is the stakes in all this. Not only the financial cost but if NESN were to fail then it would very possibly take quite a few agents with it, or at the very least cause a lot of hardship for a long time. It would also cause a mass surge to A.N. Other source of income and, right now, that looks to be either SP or CDSL as ISDAL and JTM are out the frame really. Or maybe even GBDAR, but you get the point, at times it’s better the devil you know.

So there you go, back to total honesty in TWR and not before time either and that’s my take on recent events.

Yeah, a customer sent me in a nice bottle of brandy just at Christmas there because I sorted out a problem for her with a certain Korean manufacturer. She even gave Robert some beer as well.

They ain’t all bad, just the majority of them. 😆

I meant to say, it is my opinion that it is said “faction” (and we all can have a bloody good guess at who I’m speaking of) that are actually steering DASA to a degree. But in the end, for now, the shit falls to Mark to deal with as he’s chief bottle washer.

I don’t want a rift, I sure don’t want to be at loggerheads with DASA but, if it has to be then fine. But I would hope that we do it collectively although I fail to see the need for it.

I have said before and, I’ll say it again, DASA has a place in the grand scheme of things and a very valid purpose. But not now.

That really is enough, I’ll be pounced on by kids in 5 hours or so and I’ll have a bloody hangover. Damn Mr Jack Daniels!

    Re: DASA/UKW Meeting

There is a faction within DASA that probably fucking hate me, but cest la vie.

There’s no need for another forum IMO, what we have here is just fine.

Jason and Mark have been very busy, I appreciate that. But I would urge them not to forsake DASA or UKW, which I see happning. In the end it’s their call though.

As for the membership, it depends on when you join as there’s no pro-rata rates in place, a very glaring omission I should say.

If DASA don’t change then “dead” may well be an apt description, but I’ve said that before many a time.

    Enough and, enough JD.

    Morag,

It is Gunkol, that is the brand just as Bob said. It is made by Teba and, if it’s the same element Dave’s been after for a while, there’s serious stock issues with them.

Elements are made from metal and a ceramic powder, they will not ignite unless there’s something on them. Or, of course, you get them up to furnace temperatures, but realistically it would have to be an external substance that caused any flames.
