    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

There has to be a start point in any career, l believe l have not once stated a cert on its own is the bees knees, someone read a comment of mine, came to the wrong assumption.

The people i’ve worked with over the past yr have included various backrounds, some concurr comments on here , but the majority does conflict with peeps experience or their comments at least.

People with a recognised qualification performed better than those without.

The plan or part of it is too improve school leavers and young adults through various colleges set up the by govt.

No secret really just change, hopefully most wont find it too scary and weed out the people scared of change, lazy, arrogant or negative. All the traits causing us to become a laughing stock within the service industry.

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

So not many here would advocate there sons or daughters do a qualification for anything.

    Intetesting.

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

There is a plan in place to be fully implemented within a time frame. It will affect WP’s to the point there income source will stop and therefore work will dry up in favour of the plan.

It could be binned next week, l doubt it, but its a new approach to an issue that has been around for decades, the difference this time is money and its planned to involve all the major and minor players.

For a few years now poor results have led to huge financial losses from company engineers and WP’s.

I’m not saying specifics for what should be obvious, you’ll have to take it or leave it.

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

I’m direct for sure, never made that a secret.

Progress, change whatever you want to badge it can and will happen.

It may come from brands, it may come from WP’s or it may come from another form completely different or it may be a previously tried and failed attempt reworked and slim lined.

    Time will tell you.

Would you like some famous quotes, maybe about Rome, building etc etc or assumptions.

If its failed before, is it really due to impossibility or is it due to fu88 wits who frankly could not run a bath.

Surely its worthy of disscussion, supporting an industry with competent people is something to be encouraged.

The brands im currently working are willing to increase there wage scales for a competent, effective workforce.

If you’ve not had that conversation, is that due to your opinion or the fact you just don’ have access.

    Think about it.;-)

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

    Thanks for both your opinions.

The course is designed for school leavers, the next generation hopefully will have a better grasp of learning than the current/previous generation, which hopefully will not produce the fu88 wit mentality you point out.

Its true about a donkey, hopefully we can breed horses instead.

    Not just them.

To attract talent you need to make it at least compete.

You wont get Engineers when the labour rate is not much higher than that of unskilled labour.

    Re: Next Up On TV

I cant say too much on here except.

They were not out on calls and they where all together in a room.

I may sound harsh, but the intellect found in this industry and i’m sure in others is ridiculous.

    Re: Next Up On TV

I’ll give an example that some here may understand, the majority will miss it.

A few days ago I call to a Daewoo side by side. Complaint, ice unit spilling water onto shelves.

Client rang 6 indepedents, all stated several different reasons for not wanting the call.

    No one called.

The repair took 25 seconds to diagnose, several seconds to remove 2 screws, 1 terminal block, slide out, slide in replacement assembly ,tighten 2 screws, plug in wiring and press the magic test button.

    No fault codes required.

    Just good old common sense.

No special training required to understand the weight sensor failed causing the unit to flood, freeze and jam.

See brands understand that many people can only repair there products if there shown every little fault before hand and that sends shivers down their backs, no confidence is a major player.

So takin into account the car industry example.

Try taking a newish BMW M5 to your local independent garage with an electronic fault.

There likely to bull s8it an excuse why only BMW can do the repair, unless ofcourse one person there used to work for BMW.

So like the car industry there will be independents only doin what they feel safe with no matter how much info is made available.

It may be due to lack of tech info, but for me its due to the education level and a lack of engineering understanding within our industry, I’ll use our industries current/previous wage scales as evidence to this and that this week 3 Serviceforce techs failed to understand and input the correct binary code to a non configured PCB using all the tech info required from Electrolux.

I fear brands would need to make tech info so simple they may as well give it to the customers and cut out the middleman.

One step forward, three back springs to mind.

Either way major players always win, they have too keep the balance right.

So we can look forward to fault codes disappearing and plug in software diagnosis requiring a one of payment and monthly usage fee plus the cost of hardware.
