Re: Amica cooker doors coming unstuck

Maybe worth temp testing the oven and looking at a cause other than poor materials or build, adhesives should/do have the ability to withstand normal temp’s + a bit extra, could be a user error, such as placing hot objects on the door, does happen or there forgetting to switch off the oven over night, also happens, especially in student property.

Its a simply fix to re glue the door I use Ambersil 1008A, takes temp up to 300 degrees.

Probable cause I’m told is too much pressure in drum when a certain load level has been exceeded on certain wash program with a certain detergent.

A similar spec product from the same factory but different brand has a similar issue on with the door releasing water onto the floor when the load has been exceeded on a certain program with a certain detergent.

I was told John Lewis refused them on quality concerns, I’m not implying anything, the product does not conform to the quality level John Lewis buyers require, after all, it is the sellers responsibility to ensure products are of a certain quality.

    Re: Argos tell the truth…

Its well known that most reviews are written by company employees, having said that before you slag off a particular product check its not one you like but didn’t realise, it happened last week a repair guy i was talking to about a Baumatic BDW13, he slagged it of something rotten, I asked what he like, he loved the hotpoint dwf40, only problem, there the same appliance. 😆

I guess I assumed that since all Repaircare agents writing on here don’t know what is going on, the pages really don’t contain anything beyond assumptions, hopes and insults (mainly to me 😆 )

I may not be directly involved with Repaircare, far to clever for that, but I do have a certain ability to always be right, so read between the lines and fill in the missing blanks, you may benefit far more than thinking up childish comments that really only serve one purpose.

My advice to any Repaircare agents is to hold tight for now, change is around the corner and you may well improve your situation.

    No no no.

I never stated or implied Comet would do DSG work.:rolls:

DSG want Repaircare and her contracts to compete with Comet. 😆

4 months ago (guess) I got slammed for slagging off Repaircare, now who did the slamming. 😉

At least its only 3 months too Xmas, time to start singing.

Jingle bells, Santa smells…………………………..whats the missing sentence. 😆

One major Manufacturer still has a contract with Repaircare, but no longer passes work to them.

After all these yrs I still get the same satisfaction I got on my first ever solo call and fix, I would miss that if I was ever to hand over the tools and sit on my butt all day.

Re: The Future…….. is there one for this industry.

When I started my apprenticeship in 1990, the good old YTS then City & Guilds the nearest to appliance repair was to do Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, so I spent my college time trying to work out how to strip Industrial motors for CNC machines and there controls.

There was no qualification for Appliances, lucky for me as my qualification is more advanced, if I’d moved employers I would have been several thousand pounds better off a yr as an employee in that industry than the appliance field.

Most of the people I know have come through either as trained company engineers or other Electrical backgrounds.

I don’t believe the industry needs/requires anything different, the private sector does run appliance courses and they don’t last beyond a few weeks.

Spending several yrs in college is not required and I guess the private sector does not see a market in doing it nationwide on the same level as other skills, otherwise they would have many many yrs ago, after all the appliances have been around a few yrs.

My comments go to show quite a lot, sorry don’t know how to write more simply than I have to get the point you missed across.

I guess being in business is all about meeting the challenges faced daily and overcoming them or avoiding them all together yourself.

P.S. Lee8 Please .. You know I don’t normally respond to your rantings, but I’m going to respond this time…. Your post above sounds like a finger pointing exercise at Simon, just because you are peeed off… If you need to complain about a ‘business practice’ or ‘lack of’ of someone… please PM them or email them instead of posting what could be embarrassing or potentially damaging to their business if posted on this forum. The fact that Simon was at the meeting is rather like ‘Sorry I am on holiday’ or like ‘trying to get me on a Sunday’ regardless of the fact that you don’t take holidays or the fact that you work on Sundays… it is a personal choice… I am not picking on you but you really do need to think before you post…

Its not a rant or finger point and I’m not peed off, Simon and Amica have my full support, I spoke to Simon and I’m sure this will result in some further contact on Monday.

This is the last place I would Rant, I’m far more blunt in real life than on a forum.

My point was that when a small business has the chance to sell serious amount of appliances and improve my business someone always will spoil it.

That can be anything from how we are perceived by the public, the govt to just doing the job of sales and repairs.

Its always been this way and always will.

Which is why I’m not that bothered. 😆

Re: The Future…….. is there one for this industry.

I have to say it is hard sometimes, getting heard that is.

    My example this week.

I have a meeting with a letting agent and his contractor, I do there appliances.

They want to replace the appliances in the flats as there getting old and paying me too much :rolls:

So Amica for me is an option, so Simon is contacted and Swift details passed, Swift contacted and I’m still waiting (2 weeks) for a price list.

So I ring Simon, who happened to be in the UKW meet 😆

Can I have details of other suppliers, as Swift arn’t so Swift.

This letting agent has around 450 flats in a University city, so all let out and there currently buying from Howdens around 2 intergrated washer dryers a week, but the appliances are crap.

So better for me being Amica agent to also supply and possible repair both in warranty and out of warranty, but i’m not about to lose any sleep over the deal, but its kinda frustrating that I’m all singing and dance Engineer, been Gas, Refrigeration and trade assossociated for many many yrs and yet in this current climate distributors don’t seem to be able to supply even the simplest request, so how can I rely on appliances to be delivered on time etc etc..

I’m just glad I don’t have the stress of large over heads anymore, been in the 5 figure turnover, shop owned before, was not healthy or profitable for the hours worked.

Now I prefer to do 4-5 calls a day, relaxed and earning far more than anyone I know who employees people.

As for our industry becoming more professional, the clients I visit seem to only care about price and speed, no one ever asks my qualifications etc etc, hell some of the muppets I’ve come across are trade associated and NVQ qualified.

Appliance Engineers are not high up the engineering ladder, in other EU countries there not classed as Engineers, but Technicians and qualifications are usually low and most are people who academically could not enter College or University, they attend a Technical College on day release, we are in the same skill level as plumbers and bricklayers.

The industry isn’t dead yet, look at the 0800 etc, growing and backed by money.

    Smaller businesses will also survive.

Medium not so lucky, if you employee a few guys, you’ll struggle.
