Exactly Jeremy, pity manufacturers cant focus their efforts to produce machines with a reasonable lifespan built from quality components.
But then there’s probably no money in that, better to fleece the easily impressed with this sort of guff I guess :rolls:

    Re: Website advice.

Some good info there guys, thanks. I got talked into a basic yell adwords deal when the rep was here last year, according to their stats it had 160 hits to date 😯 crap IMO 🙁

Really thought it would generate more, I do tend to appear on the first page if you Google repairs in my area.

I dunno, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I think demand for repairs is simply declining more and more each year, it really does not matter how or where you advertise if no one is looking in the first place.

Yep, its another quiet week and I’m on a downer! Oh well, all the more time to work on my website 🙂

    Re: Website advice.

Cheers Martin, yeah, most certainly will design one myself, if I have to suffer any more bull crap from peeps who charge too much for very little effort I may well strangle someone 👿

It’s just a simple single page affair I have in mind anyway, seems to be plenty of free sites that can help achieve that.

    Re: golocal reactive

Ok, so I received a call from Daniel (golocal) this afternoon in response to my post.
Basically, he feels his company has been unfairly portrayed and any bad experiences suffered were mainly down to this being a new venture and the teething troubles this often brings.

I have agreed to give golocal a chance and will do the job they offered should the customer get back in touch. So far she has not.

Wish I’d read this before sort of agreeing to take on a no drain washer job 12 miles away 😕
They’ve emailed me the job sheet but if theres little chance of a payout then I’ll just bin it.

I felt sorry for the customer stuck in the middle so gave her a quick call today and left a message stating basically that I didn’t trust the outfit & was not willing to work with them.

Anyone know where I stand legally if I do the job for her and get paid directly… kinda pinching the job I verbally agreed to do through them 😀

They caught me early morn when I was half asleep, thought their name sounded familiar. oops. 😳

Didn’t realise Indesit exported to Australia! He was pushing his luck putting his snout so close to a motor running at full bore with no load 😯 If a com segment flew off I’m not sure his perspex protection would be quite enough 😕

Must have been nothing on telly :rolls:

Re: When is a Guarantee not a Guarantee ?

Yep, its the ‘piggy in the middle’ situation which drives me nuts. I find the tenants often have an attitude, which gets my back up immediately, and often make no attempt to treat the appliances with some care – they aint paying for them so why should they? :rolls:

I really have only one letting agent I deal with regularly, all their jobs are within 10 miles or so, they tend to have a better class of tenants and they pay promptly… not asking too much IMO. 😕

Re: When is a Guarantee not a Guarantee ?

Had a very similar experience last year with a Hotpoint W/D, changed dryer element which was throwing trip,Landlord sent the 80 quid promptly and that was that.
All was well for a couple of weeks until the tenants managed to block the pump.

Bearing in mind this job was a 60 mile round trip I thought it reasonable to bill the landlord a second time 😕

He however, had a total change in character, said he thought he’d ‘spent enough on the bloody thing’ and that my request for a second callout was rather greedy 😯

Only after threatening litigation did he send me half my callout, a post it note stuck to the cheque informed me he ‘wouldn’t be using me again and wouldn’t be recommending me’.
Best news I had all day I must say.

Despite work being scarce I must admit I take Landlord/Tenant jobs on very reluctantly, the hassle factor generally doubles I’ve found. 🙁

    Re: cordless drill batteries

Wouldn’t try that with lithium cells though, and if its fairly new it might contain just that, lithium cells can flare quite violently if overcharged.
I replaced the 18650 sized lithium ion cells in my 18v drill last year (five 3.7v cells in series)but then it was a £200 drill so worth doing, decent 18650’s are around a fiver each depending on amp hrs rating.
Works perfectly again, a new complete battery pack was going to cost £90! 😯

    Re: comet

Well, sheds like Comet and Currys thought nothing of driving small high street independents out of business, and now online players are doing the same to them.

Installed a double oven for a customer last week, she had popped into Comet Inverness to give them the business. They didn’t have the model she wanted in stock so she ordered from an online retailer, got it within two days and saved £80 to boot.

    It’s tough out there! 🙁

By the looks of their warning notice they have the machine hooked up to the (15amp ?) Immersion heater circuit.

Would be interested to know what Indesit want for a sealed drum for one of these. As theyre keen to get as much business as possible with their ‘free parts, just pay our callout’ caper I cant see them supplying drums to the indies at a price that would allow us to undercut them.

I think sealed drums are a very useful designed in monopoly for them, whoever thought of it must have got a nice bonus that year 👿
