negotiations are ongoing but im gonna end up out o pocket methinks. .Why? even though it is not your fault your public liability insurance shoued cover this ( assuming you have it of course) its their job to argue the toss with the customer, thats what you pay them for.
Jim. yep jim the insurance would cover it but she seems to backing off now her floor has dried out with no ill effects.. its only when i convinced her it REALLY was nothing i did that made the valve fail that she calmed down. Must get one of those t shirts with sh*t happens printed on it and simply point to it instead of trying to calm a hysterical punter.. yes that would work.. :rolls:

Its a laff this game innit..i used to think icould eliminate comebacks like this if only i allocated plenty of time for each job & was really, really thorough.. that only helps a bit i find. Case in point couple weeks ago. Old Hoover Electron , leaking a bit, on original shaded pole style pump. New mag pump fitted, chatted with punter over nice cuppa while runnin machine through couple rinses.. “dont make em like these any more, blah blah ” says i. Next morning shes on the blower at 8am screaming that it flooded the kitchen overnight & water is still pouring from the soap drawer. Yep, the machine had rewarded my praises by sticking an inlet valve. nice. negotiations are ongoing but im gonna end up out o pocket methinks. Like i say,its a laff..

I think the warning signs were there from the start with that job.A customer who waffles on about a load of unlikely sounding faults usually ends up being a pain in the a*se who cant be pleased. Some people think they own your soul if you earn a few quid from them..If in doubt, pass on the job.. the loons are not worth the grief.. :rolls:

Yeh, its well naughty when “one of our own” does this, had it couple of times myself.More common i find though is the phone call half an hour before youre due to call telling you “oh my hubby-uncle-neighbour-labrador-or whoever has managed to fix it.. wont be needing you now with your outrageous charges.. £25.. i can get a new one for £169..” Oops, im off on one again.. what was the question ? 😯

Hello all, finally got the damm thing working!! Earths seemed ok on drum & front panel to module but i cleaned & tightened them anyway. Tightened top edge connector on module as this has earth.Anyhoo, something in that lot did the trick. Sensitive little bugger, but when you think of the tiny changes in resistance its working with it kinda makes sense.. Thanx 4 advice guys. 😀

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint TDC60S Heats for few mins
cheers jim, module is looking like a possible culprit, but like you, never came across this fault before.Even tried directly earthing brush wire which i thought would give the effect of very wet clothes but it wasnt havin it & stopped drying pronto. Dont have much info on this machine, prob need pass on it, plenty easy ones to be gettin on with. Annoying tho :rolls:

Yeh Jim all seems ok with brush &wire to it. Tried disconnecting said wire but drying light still went off early, clothes still damp.System works by measuring higher resistance as moisture levels drop as i understand it. Bit like a damp meter those surveyor fellows poke in your front room.. Think ill retrain..now thats REAL money. 😯

Depends how you see demand for your services in your area in the future. I think the customer profile in general is going through big changes . Most work in the future will be from people who are aware of the utter waste of throwing major whites on a skip at 3 yrs. I intend to stay a one man operation so i can survive the lean times, most of the failed whites repair business around here have had high overheads. Its horses for courses though.

Oops ! bet u were popular ! Yep the old field & neutral linked with a driver trick was handy. Dont think id try the same with a triac tho, often more than one &and if u wreck the board…. 🙁

ParticipantRe: circuit board repairs
Yeh, been dealing with EMW for years, can only think of a couple of failed boards, both of which were replaced next day. They never once commented on the god awful looking exchanges i send them. However, would be interesting to know if these guys are any good.. healthy competition and all that.. 😀

ParticipantRe: Kitchenfitters tricks!
Wasnt it that case which prompted the most recent shake up in wiring regs? Sure it was an MPs daughter or something.. Or maybe its an urban myth.. i believe anything me.. :con:

ParticipantRe: idiot customers
Went to several over the years who managed to winkle the rear bearing out of a (usually hotpoint) drum in situ. The broken threaded pulley they tried to pull off usually lying nearby.. Having replaced said bearing&pulley imagine the look on their wee face when the inner drum is still flapping about like a t*t in a breeze.. :rolls:
