ParticipantRe: hotpoint dishwasher
Pretty sure ive had an open circ heater on at least one of these. I assume this was checked tho? unless you actually like grief i would move onto the next job, you just cant say what else has been disturbed, & last one to touch gets the phone call.. :rolls:

ParticipantRe: Black list bible?
Yes if we all black listed the ones that are a pain there would be a hell of a lot of engineers sitting at home watching daytime TV. I must admit i get pleasure in finally solving a tricky one, but of course the built to a price crap that some punters insist on buying time & time again is tempting to avoid..silk purse from piggies ear & all that..

ParticipantRe: What No Toolbox ?
Yep, guys like that do a huge amount of damage to our trade.A customer who has been ripped like that a couple of times is likely to conclude ‘they’re all like that’ and vow never to have anything repaired again once its out of warranty.. and who could blame them. 🙁

ParticipantRe: Yellow Pages
Dread the yearly visit from yellows rep, always a new face every year, always the same high pressure bull. Wish i had nerve to drop it but i think it at least pays for itself.. just. Word of mouth is & always will be the best though, & its free of course. Only good thing about yellows is that the price hasnt been allowed to increase for a few years now due to their almost monopoly position, i think thats been lifted now tho. Not a company i take pleasure from dealing with, mainly cos o the pushy reps …(sorry, executive sales executives) :rolls:

ParticipantRe: FUEL PRICES AROUND THE UK.
Now fuel is above the £1 mark i very much doubt we will see it in pence again. Its a real drain on the wallet, lucky if a tank full does a week. used to use a bit o veg oil in old astra van i had (about 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mix) with no apparent ill effects. With modern common rail high pressure injection im not so sure.. mind u, got a bit o warranty left.. Trouble with this game is of course the average retail price of appliances remains flat year in year out & its that which dictates your profit per call. Sorely tempted to raise prices a bit though, maybe punters wont notice… no, they bloody will :rolls:

ParticipantRe: $10 Callout Fee – service 24/7
Why would you need an appliance repaired in middle o the night? Driving the streets of LA at 3am for a tenner.. oh where do i sign up. Interesting to see the same old ‘we can fix it cheaper ‘ speil is the same the world over, quality, not quantity is what i prefer.

ParticipantRe: Pattern Heaters: A cautionary tale 🙁
I fit a lot of qualtex fan elements & they certainly seem to have a fairly short life. Depends of course how much customer uses the thing. If it lasts a couple of years im impressed, mind u, some factory fit ones are no better. Also had spate of white k dryer ones throwing trips, must try pulling off earth for a few mins tho, never thought o that 😯

ParticipantRe: matrix dishwasher
Probably stripped thread, think ive had that with one or two in the past.I would ask what shes using in it as well, given the unexplained flooding. Some fairy products seem to make the best behaved machines spew up.

ParticipantRe: Bosch commiting Corporate Suicide
Yeh, have to agree with you sean. A general rise in prices is what the repair game badly needs, so i hope others follow. Wasnt long ago my local comet had Bosch 1200s stacked at the door priced at £250. A move nearer to a£350 retail would be most welcome.Sad fact is most people will only get something repaired if the cost to replace makes them write out a large cheque they’d rather not. Microwaves are a case in point, never did a huge amount but there was always a handful every month. I think i’ve had two this year, both sounded like mag faults from the description on phone, neither wanted it fixed. :rolls:

Had one these where the pump was jammed with crud, easy enough to check once you pop the side panel off.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WMA36 Overfilling
yeh i would examine the pressure hose very carefully. Sounds identical to a wma i had a while back, it would top up at fairly regular intervals till the drum was nearly full. Tiny nick in hose caused by untidy bearing job (not guilty !)

ParticipantRe: Am i missing something? Zanussi Tc7102
im not but im game 4 a laugh.Cheers mate, ill have another look at.Not too bad as regards build quality though ,proper roller drum supports, fairly easy belt & fan access, cabinets made from reasonably thick steel.. Wish i got more of these than the god awful tin foil hotpoints i seem to get landed with… is that libelious…? Who cares its bloody true. 🙂
