Re: Electric Car Could Power Home During Blackout

Had a poke around and a sit in a Vauxhall Ampera (AKA chevrolet Volt) at my local Vauxhall dealer the other day, nice car.

Best of both worlds at the moment IMO, 16kwhr battery allowing 35 to 40 miles range on a charge, then a standard petrol lump chimes in to act as a generator allowing a further 300 miles or so.

The Sales ‘Executive’ :rolls: wasn’t in the mood to let me take it for a spin but said he had used it over 2 days and the claimed battery range was easily achievable, gliding around town in near silence with the instant torque of the electric motor was quite addictive according to him.
Lob a few photovoltaic panels on your south facing house roof and shaft the treasury with your pollution free motoring (for 35 miles) 8)

I’d kill to have such a small drop in work compared to years gone by TBH ! I’m running with a typical 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} loss of work in an average week 🙁

It really is just for pocket money these days, gawd help us if her indoors gets paid off 😯

Agree with your main point though. connect and their ilk have a damn cheek undermining their core business clients in this way.

Have they not heard about looking after the goose producing the golden eggs? :rolls:

My local rep quit just as this years edition was going to print, didn’t even let me know, she lives just 4 miles away too :rolls:

I was left to sort it out over the phone but didn’t get a further chance to amend the proof as I wanted to. 🙁

It does appear they’re getting pretty desperate, recently shrinking the size of the book(and the ads) now upping the ad size this year for the same price.
Headless chickens running around trying to adapt to a rapidly changing world IMO 😯

Been thinking about trying an SSD in my laptop too, waiting for the operating system to load gets on my thruppenny bits.

They apparently work better with 7 than Vista, but then Vista is a bag of poop :rolls:
Important to disable any defrag, as I understand this shortens an SSD’s life since its not needed with solid state.

Would be interested in anyones experiences with these gizmos too 😉

Sure glad I didnt bother with the one job I was offered.
The customer actually phoned me and explained how the website totally confused her, she thought she was dealing with a company in the local area, thats the idea behind outfits like these though isn’t it.

For me the biggest loss of income has been from the demise of the repairable drum assembly 😥 Had 3 customers on the phone with failed sealed drums this week alone, all of them decided to scrap when I explained what was involved.
So thats a loss in turnover of more than £200, fan oven elements are down to a couple a month now compared with at least 2 or 3 a week, it all adds up to a loss of many thousands over the year 🙁

It’s a shame, I would miss this game if it comes to the stage where the towel simply has to be thrown in, there’s only so long you can live off your savings though 😕

    Re: Clock Change

I personally hate the clocks going back at the other end of the year 👿 Come the winter solstice and its sunset at around 3.30 at these lattitudes, I would far rather that be 4.30.

So yes, if they make me king of scotland I shall be maintaining BST year round. :lesson:

King Edward….yes.. that has a certain ring to it 😉

Do you boys north of the border benefit from the change?

At this time of year the north starts getting more daylight than the south 8) (Hence the shades 😉 )

    26th March 2012- London sunrise, 6.49. London sunset,7.24 = 12hr 35 min day.

    Inverness sunrise,7.01. Inverness sunset,7.45 = 12hr 43min day.

    Lovin them extra 8 mins ! 🙂

Things are reversed come the winter of course. 🙁

Yep, pretty much useless IMO. I guess the rise in the basic tax allowance is the only good point, but as you say squadman, the looming £10 gallon is going to make many Businesses no longer viable, it really is worrying and there’s nothing we can do about it unfortunately 🙁

No, rolling eyes Steve. Kinda like the face I have when the wife says she needs me to take out the garbage, mow the lawn, follow her to the bedroom etc, etc… 😉

Often when using a quote from a post the smilies dont transfer properly, and this fella ➡ :rolls: becomes ‘rolls’.

The trouble is so can everyone 😉 These sort of outfits damage our trade, put ‘Washing’ into Google and these fellas appear at the top of the page every time. I hear a lot of people around here mentioning they’ve used them.

Apparently their delivery is efficient too..even to the Scottish highlands, which is indeed impressive! Take all your old stuff away as well.

Makes you wonder why anyone bothers with a repair any more… the four job total I had this week is making me wonder too 😐
