If anyone from Wolseley is registered with UKWG maybe they would like to explain why they can’t get up to speed with their online ordering system, I have been loyal to them for over 15 years but they are trying my patience.Yeah Mal there’s people from Wash Vac/Wolseley that have access to UKW. Whether they pay any attention to it is another matter, probably too busy feeding British Gas and eSpares to be bothered with us mere plebs.

Forgot to mention the Wolseley point system, everyone who has an account gets points to redeem for goods š ALL except the white goods customers. š„ š” I think a level playing field would be appreciated.

10 out of 10 for the site! :rolls: must be working on small margins šÆ and what about a gtee. when the parts are not fitted correctly? maybe we should all give up in this business and let the “destroy it youself” brigade carry on a kill themselves š it will at least help the pension system

Be extra carefull when testing from the plug for an eatrh fault in todays modern machines as the electronics are so sensitive you could be doing more dammage than the worth of it. š šI must have been lucky I can honestly say that I have never damaged a pcb. with a insulation test :rolls: I am probably teaching my granny to suck eggs here, but I make sure that when I do a test, I test all the machine, this cannot be done from the plug on some appliances that have a heater relay(only in circuit when energised) š

Unlike the green light pass, red light fail brigade, I use mine for actual readings, and fault finding, i.e. motors, heaters etc, down to earth. When someone else’s method’s are different to other’s, it doesnt make them wrong.Don’t get me wrong Spanner but the question you were asking does give a little doubt, I am sure that you do know what you are doing, in answer to your question I would not do an insulation test between L and N and should only be between Earth and L/N if your crock clips are too short then clip it to a screwdriver and use it across both pins š

Challenge it Goose the cheeky beggars or at least ask them to break it down and explain why such a high charge. You could also find out who the manager is so when you repair his washer you can charge suitably š
You could also check this lot out, http://www.caterallen.co.uk as I said in a previous post, I’m with them and they keep paying me lovely interest š š

spanner51 wrote:Further to my earlier topic, I have just purchased a Megger insulation tester, brand new, from ebay. It was a great bargain. However the crocodile clips are just a little too small to bridge the L and N pins on the plug when testing. I’m not sure weather to do 2 tests, 1 on the L and earth, and 1 on the N and earth. I dont want to blow any sensitive p.c.b’s.
Any thoughts on the subject?

Come on guys you don’t have to buy one of these special tools, I made mine out of a piece of 1″ alloy tube that I had lying about, looks just like the Hotpoints but without the washer around the tube, this is great as you can slide the belt down the shaft (tube) onto the motor pulley. Right hand side panel removed first š

ParticipantRe: Guarantee’s
Hi Squadman
I recently spoke with trading standards with regards guarantees.
Apparently there is no legal requirement to provide a gtee. on anything! new goods or old. But there is a requirement to sell goods that are “fit for purpose” .
Basically if you give a gtee on a part then you should honor it, big BUT though, if they are fitting the part themselves, well this leaves you open to all sorts of problems mainly customer relations. Remember what Hotpoint print on there packets ” parts should only be fitted by a competent person” you will have to be judge and jury of your customers. If you give a 6 months Gtee on apart and they fetch it back after 9 months you could offer to get a replacement at say half price for good customer relations ( don’t forget you buy it at trade, but don’t give a gtee on replacement ) On the other hand if the customer is an ars*hole” :rolls: do what your instinct tells you š
I once had a guy buy a fridge stat of me only to return it to me the next day saying that it was faulty. On inspecting it I found that he had cut 12 inches of the phial because it was to long!! š³ Guaranteed ā My Ar*eā š
