34 – 38k afaik is for the Gas appliance engineers,(must have boiler experience)

Their white goods (electrical only) are earning somewhere in the mid 20k range

    Re: Gas feed to cooker?

That looks very likely to be a gas feed, however there will need to be remedial work on the pipework as it’s current termination point is too low to meet todays regulations. The gas safe registered engineer you hire to correct this will also be able to connect your has cooker should you buy one.

Also look above the point where the “hob” part of the appliance is going to be, if there is an electrical socket there, or anything inflammable, these are other concerns that will need to be addressed first

Pull the cooker out, most likely there will be a data badge with the model and serial number on the back.

I can rule it out as not being a Stoves/Belling/NewWorld

Re: Safety testing. Do you think this is over the top?

    a) If the customers getting electrical shocks off it. There is a loose or bad earth connectiont and that’s why you will be going out to fix anyway

    b) If its tripping electrics, its got an insulation fault and thats why you will be going out anyway, the earthing cisrcuit is going to be fine because its done whats its supposed to have done

Basic tests that will cover you for any eventuality.

    1) Make sure the appliance has good earth continuity to the nearest copper pipe of earth pin on something else plugged in on another socket
    2) Make sure it passes the earth loop.
If both of those are okay, even if it develops a fault, the fuse protection system will kick in and nobody will get hurt.

Asshole cover my back, I dont have any spine management who mainly dont understand what you do anyway come up with these lists orr else why would they issue you with a voltage tester when you already have a multimeter

Glen dimplex lost or dint attempt to renew the repair contract they had with Amica. From what I have been told, they had a lot of issues getting oddball parts.

Re: New World G70M gas oven

It is most defintely the FSD (Flame safety device). This comes as a complete oven/burner assy, the stoves part number is:

    012503000 (alternative part no 082503000)

    Re: Belling DW problems

Most likely problem with the 603 is a pressure switch problem
If it isnt flashing up an “E” number in the display, then second most likely cause is the door catch is opening slightly, normally caused by poor installation allowing the cabinet to flex too much

If there is any water in the pressure switch hose, replace it. There is an unnoficial mod kit, aint no part number sorry, which basically lengthens the pressure switch hose so that you can loop it a little higher.

What “E” number is it flagging up??

    Re: Similarities in White goods

    Heres the thing

Comet and curry’s force their “buy in” price from the manufacturers down each year

Eventually one of the manufacturers are no longer profitable, so they outsource their requirements from abroad

    Welcome beko, technogas, Moray etc

This almost bankrupt manufacturer then sells these cheaper, re badged appliances at a cost below other UK manufacturers and becomes once again quite profitable

So, all the other manufacturers then start to suffer, so they follow suit and before you know it, all the cheaper end products all look almost identical.

You only have to visit your local Comet or Curry’s store and have a look down the free standing cooker aisle to see this

    Who’s fault is this.
Well i think its 3 fold

    a) the customer for not really wanting to pay for a quality product, even though they say they will

    b) Manufacturer’s shareholders for being too greedy

    c) Comet and curry’s for being too greedy

What this actually causes is an overall reduction in the quality of these products, from the quality of the metals to the overall quality of the components

I have noticed a massive balance shift in the type of repairs i now attend under warranty.

Far fewer actual component failures, much higher bodging adjustments

Re: Cooking on the oven base

I’ve visted many cookers where the customer has been using the conventional oven setting, where a base element is in circuit and the enamel has “flaked off” due to something lying on the base of the cavity, be it a roasting dish or one of these carbon liners.

    Re: Gas cooker installations

    Just to add to this

if a gas user needs to clean behind the cooker etc
they are allowed to “Unplug” and reconnect the flexi hose to the bayonet fitting providing it has already been installed by a competent person (eg a corgi registered fitter)

    Re: manufacturer

if it says anything other than

“Made in the UK” on the data badge, then it wasn’t

    eg

    “Country of Destination UK”
    “Made in EEC”

and you cannot trust any badge on anything to be that of the manufacturers own design and build, most of the cheaper end of the market is now imported.

    Beko being the main supplier

    China soon

    Re: belling 644w

    whats happened is:

when your element blew, it caused a massive surge of power through the element circuit, this unfortunately weleded the thermostat switch contacts together, thats why the heat is permanently “ON”, so yes you defintely need a knew stat

    Re: Grill won’t stay lit

the actual grill (meshed area) will have split, if you look close enough, you should be able to see a rip in the burner somewhere
this causes in inbalance between the air and gas mixture as the burner warms up.

It will need a new burner assembly and you will need a corgi engineer to fit it
