    Re: Customer Comments

Just as you say Martin – you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

I don’t think anyone involved with UKW would dispute your advice and we fully support your actions.

It may be frustrating for members of the public at times when we are unable to give out technical information but sadly we are bound by the proprietary of modern liability.

I think in some instances it’s a case of silence is golden.

    OK then.

You’re a very naughty goat, go to the back of the field and there will be no second helping of old tin cans for you 😡

I still clicked on the link though.

To be fair, if you posted a large red button which said “do not, under any circumstance, press this button” I’d probably press it before I even read the rest of the post. Some things are just too tempting.

    Re: Double Repair

I’ve done that as well 😳
The really spooky thing is that the lady I went to by mistake was actually waiting for an engineer to come that day! The place was an asbsolute dive – I didn’t even want to set my toolbox down it was that bad. Philco pump that was blocked with all sorts of horrors, some of which still give me nightmares.
The worst part was that we probably didn’t even get paid for it as I was there (or so I thought) for an insurance job.
Oh well, made some other lucky sods day for him by relieving him of the need to get down on the little floor of horrors.

Smeg have recently issued a new part-numbered element for use in the SUK91 (don’t have it to hand). They had some problems with the previous element used (part number 806890397) and have acknowledged this.
Hopefully if you have one of the new issue elements installed it should last a bit longer and postpone having to buy a new appliance.

You could try contacting MFI customer service on 0870 607 5093 as this is one of their Whirlpool made machines. They’re usually quite good at helping people out with instruction manuals.

    Martin

‘Tis true. Edinburgh is notoriously bad for cover.

And due to current events people are going to be less inclined to travel there out of area.

We recently sent one of our guys out that way for a Viking and had to book off a whole day for him for the one job 😯 . Not cheap.

Expert Appliance Care do the Caremark stuff (Bernstein 😯 , Westinghouse etc.). As far as I know they don’t do Smeg, but they are involved with NEFF and the rest of the B&Q gear.

For Smeg try Servevast on 0870 444 7083

We’ve done 3 of these in as many months -s/disp takes out the pcb if left to fester.
One of them we had to go to twice since we didn’t clock what was happening straight away and blew the newly replaced pcb within a fortnight 😳

    Live & learn.

    Re: Cut Vinyl Graphics

    For my tuppence worth:
I totally agree with Dave’s last post – it just makes it look that little bit tidier.

And in line with the flightless winged one I think the subscriber number should be dropped from the logo. It’s extra information which won’t generate any further interest from the reader (if they’re interested in the first place then the address is all they’ll need to look us up).

As for the trade association thing – unlike most trade associations we actively pursue public interest and today’s public are a very inquisitive bunch. Like Ken many people remember web sites that spark their interest and look them up when they get home/to work. The logo is simple yet effective – exactly what a logo should be – in that it gives the reader an impression of what it relates to without flooding them with too much information which, inevitably, results in loss of interest for most people.

So people see the logo and recognise the part they want (“that reminds me, my fridge isn’t working properly” or “my hob doesn’t spark” or whatever) – they’ll quickly associate the part of the logo with their own circumstance then all they have to take in apart from that is “ukwhitegoods.co.uk”. Easy.

I personally think that van stickers could be an effective tool for UKW at this stage. Now if we could just make the homepage that bit more appealing and user-friendly…
