Firefox2 has a built-in spell checker – you can turn it off by going to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General (tab) and unchecking the relevant box.

Re: Diplomat Oven Model – ADP3553

There’s a very good chance it’s the fan oven element although there’s always the possibility that there’s something else happened as well.

If you’re not sure I’d advise getting a professional to look at it for you, but if you want to get the element and try it will cost around £30-£45 plus postage.

There are 2 versions of that oven which both use slightly different elements and are different prices – if you can get the full serial number we can identify which one you need.

If you do decide to give it a go then please make sure you unplug and work safe :zap:

HL550 retail at £77.82 each excluding VAT
HL700 retail at £91.76 each excluding VAT

    Prices from MFI Extracare

    😯

I don’t know what trade price they could give you – you might have to phone them to check unless someone here has more info on that.

Masterpart do the HL700 for less than half of that but I didn’t see the HL550 – you could send andy@masterpart.co.uk an email and see if he can help.

    Re: Diplomat ADP8242 not playing!

Yup it’s a Smeg built for MFI – it sounds like it’s in the wrong mode and needs to be reset. The Smeg version has a flow meter which the Diplomat doesn’t but they both use the same board, just programmed differently. It sounds like the board is trying to find the flow meter and failing so is cancelling the program.

NWAR wrote:Sounds like the PCB needs to be reset:

With the door open switch the machine on using the door power button.
Press the program button 4 times within the first 3 seconds of the machine powering up.
At this point you should have both the first and last lights flashing and the middle three should be off – if not start over until you get this sequence.
Once you get the two outside lights flashing press the program button one more time and you will now be left with just one of the lights flashing.
Switch off the machine using the door power button but do not close the door.
Wait a few seconds (10-15 is plenty) then switch the machine back on and set it to a program to test.

Hopefully that should do the trick.

Give that a try before changing anything. Sometimes a power surge can cause the board to default to factory settings, often if it’s been left on overnight.

It could be. Try starting a programme and listen for the click as the door locks – give a gentle tug on the door after a few minutes to see if you can open the door. If it has locked then your problem is likey to lie elsewhere and I’d suggest getting someone out to look at it then since it comes down to inspecting it at that point to find out what’s wrong.

    Re: DIPLOMAT DISHWASHER FAULT

You could be looking at a faulty pressure switch, circuit board, wash pump or water level switch among others then. Time to get the meter out and become intimate with your dishwasher I think.
One thing to look for is that the pressure switch hose is clear. Sometimes water gets into the hose and stops the switch activating normally.

HelenK wrote:I was swayed towards the Whirlpool thinking that if the performance was half as good as the Diplomat I’d be well chuffed. Cosmetically it looks the same machine, but component-wise it’s different and so I must assume the performance may be different. Is that about right?

The Diplomat ADP8322 was built by Whirpool and badged up for MFI so you could expect similar performance levels.

Any help would be greatly received.

There shouldn’t be an error code with just the 2nd light flashing; there is one with the 2nd light flashing and the 5th one lit – if you’re unlucky enough to have a duff lamp on the 5th light then that may be part of the problem.

If it is the 2nd light flashing and the 5th light on then you’re the lucky recipient of an E2 error. It’s normally some sort of blockage in the air break but this article covers it in some depth.

simonb wrote:And can anybody tell me iv been sat looking at a windows xp installation disc from my last pc, will it work on this one, i mean can i overwrite vista and go back to xp?

    simonb
If you have a genuine Windows XP disc (comes in the Windows cd case with a manual) then you can reinstall it on another pc as long as you don’t continue to use it on the old pc (i.e. if you try to do the Windows updates on 2 pcs running under the same licence they’ll lock you out). You can keep moving your disc from pc to pc as long as you only use it on one at a time – Windows logs your motherboard details to do this.

If you have a pre-installed copy of XP and have a recovery installation type of disc (such as you’d get with Dell and the like) then your licence is only valid for that particular pc and is not supposed to be transferrable. If you try to install it on a new system it can flag up as suspicious and lock you out. You may have to phone them and say you had a hardware (motherboard) failure and and require an activation code for installing it on a new pc if this is the case.

Re: Smeg DD612WC Semi intergrated dishwasher

    Hi trotter

the PCB for the DD612WC is part number 816290888 (same part number if it’s the DD612SC version as mentioned by Mark).

the 816290860 PCB is for the DI612 models. If you’ve got a fair amount of Smeg in your area the PCB might be worth hanging onto; we go through a fair few of them 🙂

Hi, as Penguin said we are unable to offer advice on repairing your oven for safety reasons.

Your oven has a cooling fan which is electronically controlled – the fan motor is around £105 and the circuit board is around £140. I’d recommend calling out a professional to look at it and correctly diagnose the fault because the parts can get expensive and it could be any number of things causing it – those were just two examples.

Rafkoo wrote: The grill, the fan, lights timers etc.. worked fine – just that the oven wouldn’t heat.

Sounds like the fan oven element is at fault, although it’s strange that it started working again.

If you can get us the full model number (AHY3601, AHY3640 etc.) then we should be able to help a little more.
