Re: Hotpoint WF540 dryer relay fault code

For anyone thats interested, got hold of a DUMP from searching the WEB.

A new 24c64 EPROM was £0.74p, programmed it and off it went.

Good as new. (not sure they were ever really that good)

Re: Hotpoint WF540 dryer relay fault code

Also just tried reading out the EPROM and every time I read it I get different data. So might just be corrupt EPROM.

I don’t suppose anyone has a good known working EPROM dump or good EPROM for one of these machines so I can try a new chip before replacing the board.

    Many thanks

Yellow pages 2012 ( is it any better this year )

Again today a barrage of missed calls and messages left by Becky from Yellow pages. Some withheld and some from the 108579 Freephone number.

It Does appear they are getting more and more desperate this year for sales.
One on thee thing I have just looked at out of curiosity is the share/value of yell, it’s at an all time low. Also announced today is that the Yell brand is going to be renamed HIBU Plc in July so any online brand recognition Yell had is going to disappear , the printed directories are going to Keep Yell on them for now though.

Re: BEKO WMA510W – making loud noises

    Hi

The drum will tilt back and forth, what Specialist01269 said was check up and down movment of the drum, that is the inner drum only.

Put your hand in the drum of the machine and gently lift it up, if the inner drum moves more than the outer drum then it will be the bearings.

He also gave another great bit of advice, take the belt off the back (after unplugging it) , then from the front spin the drum round as fast as you can by hand, you will soon hear if it’s bearigs.

What kind of noise is it ?? grumbling, banging or rattling, if the latter then check the filter, something in the pump will make an awfull rattling noise.

    Re: crack in hob

Before I start please don’t take any comments I make as a personal attack, it’s not how it’s intended

As an example Hotpoint WM series washing machine, if anyone tried to charge more than £100 to change the bearings on one round here they would say “fanks, but i’ll buy a newun on d catalog for £2.50 a week”

So £95 is what I and many other around here charge for new drum bearings and spider.

Now done in the customers house withonut taking it away then that on paper looks like a good £70 profit BEFORE COSTS

Costs Such as Vehicle running costs ie Fuel, Tax, insurance , maintainance Parking etc. Then Consumables ie Grease, Gloves Floor pads, cleaning materials then the general business costs PL Insurance, TAX, Phones, Rates plus all the other associated costs. now that £70 does not look so good as it has been shrunk by the magic forgotten costs.

Now to take a machine away I would be doubling my vehicle costs and time, then I would have to pay a second person to assist in moving the machine both ways , yes there may be occasions that you don’t need 2 people to remove a machine, but untill I arrive I can’t tell. (and customers hate seeing their beloved machine bounced down the stairs by one person on a trolley) so that would mean either having 2 people in the van on every bearing call (more costs) or having to make another appointment to collect the machine making 3 service calls.

As far as i’m concerned my aim is to get it right 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} first time, which means I double check everything, it doesn’t matter if your in the customers house or the workshop, if it’s checked properly then it doesn’t matter where it’s done, the only differance is the costs to you.

What works for some does not work for all, The way I work is no more right for me than your way is right for you, each to their own.

what happend to yours ?? did it break up or has it just come loose and dissapeard ? If the latter, unplug and have a feel around inside the case as it will be stuck to something inside.

    Re: crack in hob

No way would I take away.

The cost of doing so would outweigh the profit.2 trips 2 the customers house van off road while moving machine, then refering back to the original post, YOU DAMAGED MY WALLS, MACHINE WITH YOUR TROLLEY when you took it away brought it back blah blah blah.

    Re: quiet week

You know what, I’ve just started to get calls again

I was so depressed with the lack of work a year ago that I stopped all advertising cancelled yellow pages and stared doing other stuff, as and when the phone rang from old regular customers i’d go and do, but that crept down to 1 or 2 jobs a week.

Unfortunatly round there were so may “I will do fixy for you cheeply nice lady” (in my best polish accent) that it killed my business overnght.

I had a leaflet dropped through my door offering to fit brushes from £10, pumps £20 seals £20 bearings £50, I phoned the mobile and spoke to the “ENGINEER” said I had a hotpoint that wouldn’t spin and he told me £10 to fix.

I had customers phone up asking if I could compete with their prices and i’d explain the you get what you pay for and is he insured blah blah blah, but they were not interested.

So that was that, did somthing else and just did the odd call, but this last week i’ve not stopped, my biggest problem was getting spares as most had closed my accounts as I had not used them for so long.

Seems a good idea but I can’t see them changing a set of drum bearings or worse for £49 labour. And definatly not if it’s one of those wonderfull built in babys that end up taking a hour to get out.

    Thanks Guys

I though I was in the right there,

As I am not CORGI, I always ask if ovens are Gas before I even book a call, as this was an electric oven I didn’t expect a problem.

I have phoned customer up this morning and advised them to get in touch with their letting agency to get it sorted out, and to get a gas safety inspection done.

It turns out that the property is owned by the owner of quite a large building company, so you’d think that they would know better. just goes to show 🙂

A nice simple job that should only take a few mins to do ??

So why did the customer not do it himself if he’s so sure it’s so easy ???

I getting to dislike the general public more and more every day.

    Re: What should i do???

    Hi

You should definatly find out what the reason food hygene man had a complaint, and try to get a copy of his report.

It may simply be a case that the owner failed to clean it correctly, and Mr Food Hygene thought it was dirty.

Not sure that the fact that 2 items have failed should be a reason to demand a refund 5 months after the first appliance failed and then 2 months after the second failed, Had you kept him waiting 5 months for the repair then that is a totally different matter and you should have given him his money back ages ago.

I’m guessing that there is a bit more to it than your being told, you have honoured your guarantee and from you description of events have done what is required.

The sales of goods act may probably still apply as the buyer is the end user therefore the consumer even though he is a business, if he was buying to sell on then it would not apply.

It is advisable from this point on that you disscuss this by letter via recorded delivery, If this does get to the point of going to court you will need proof you have tried to resolve this and there is nothing better than a consise paper trail.

Been , Seen and Done it and also got the I BEAT THE MENTAL WOMAN IN COURT T-Shirt over the sales of goods and services act , although not the same situation, the law is the same, and it will all come down to you having a complete and acurate list of events and evidence to show that you have acted within the law and the act.

Also if you are a member of the FSB their Legal helpline is a great place to get information and support.

In all though, I would not have won my case if it had not been for the help and support I got on UKW
