Re: Washing machine doesn’t start up.

Door interlock is p/no 1249675-12/3, about £23 from memory. Be advised that about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the machines I have attended with this lock have blown the electronics in some way.

An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you wish to order.

    Power off as you investigate.

Re: Smeg DWI612 Not starting program

    Possiblities:
    1) Pump jammed by blockage – no parts required – strip down and clear. You engineer will bill for at least an hour – if it’s integrated, an hour and a half unless you remove the appliance from the housing in advance.

    2) Motor failing to start due to capacitor failure (Can you hear a faint humming?). Capacitor £15-£25 depending on exactly which one required. Labour as above.

    3) Motor failed. Nasty – certainly over £100 for pump, labour as above.

However, SMEG is a decent enough brand, so worth having investigated. Do check out the labour rates when you make your call to the engineers.

Life is just so good Mal……….

Unlimited supplies of cheap, reliable spares; customers who are in and have even supplied the model number and know where the kettle is. Quality appliances which just slide out on command. Unlimited technical data. All the local speed cameras are broken, there are no roadworks anywhere around. Customers who tell me the bill is too cheap. Tyres that last 100,000 miles on a huge van that never costs anything to go through the MOT and does 60 miles to the gallon on 50p/litre diesel.

No, I’ve nothing to complain about.

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

I’m coming up 47, so 18 years left. This will probably land on us within 5 years, so I’m going to have to deal with it.

I’ve been involved in the industry for nearly 20 years, self-employed for 14. Like Mal, I have thousands of customers who seem to like us and stay with us. I hate coming back from holiday, the answering machine is overflowing with people prepared to wait for our services.

I have had the benefit of an ‘A’ level and college education, so I’m not scared of an NVQ, I rather welcome it. Hopefully with plenty of experience I won’t have to spend too much time in the classroom, mainly the “practical” stuff and at the end of it, I get a “Government Approved” stamp which I can (and will) use in my advertising.

You never know, it might dispose of most of the idiots working round Leeds, or show them for what they are. It should introduce an “Official” level of accountability, which would be great.

There seems to be an issue over cost. A little parallel might be to say that we buy spares and pass them on at a profit. For this we buy a qualification and sell our “approved” knowledge at a profit.

I really don’t have a problem with this at all.

Door lock failure – motor cannot operate with door in unlocked condition, although other functions can.

You will require p/no 55X3636, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get things moving for you if you wish to do this yourself.

If not, click the link below for pro help.

    Power off if investigating.

Re: Diplomat ADP8132 – program select not working

The door lock is in the closed position. You cannot programme the machine with the door in that position. The programme is carrying on from it’s last recalled setting. The latch mechanism needs to be reset and the position of the striker checked for proper engagement into the latch.

Standard fault with these was the rear bearing collapsing, allowing the drum to drop and run against ducting beneath.

Repair involves an entire replacement drum and bearing assembly.

    Question re Delay Start Fuction

Customer just rang to say she was unable to operate the delay start facility.

I assume that we 1) power on, 2) set prog, 3) set options, 4) set delay, 5) press start?

    Or am I missing something?

    Chris.
