As much as that? I have no doubt that the bean counters have beaten the design wonks into submission to the last fraction of a penny…. And now the customer pays. Probably part of the plan from the beginning.

😀 Please don’t – I promise you, I’ve heard all of them – there is even photographic evidence in the Gallery….. 😀

But seriously folks…. 10mm ratchet spanner, £5.99 in Halfords. Alledgedly “professional” quality – I’m on my 3rd one in 2 years 🙄 .

    Bill,
We try to offer safe and competent advice to all posters. It could be argued that it costs us money in lost repairs (we are largely independent repairers after all and need the work), but we all accept that a lot can be accomplished by an amateur (no disrespect intended 🙂 ) who listens (or rather reads) the posts and instructions available in these forums.

From our point of view, it also highlights the intransigence of most of the manufacturers, who would probaly sell their Grannies before telling you how to empty the filter on their washer, or how to join a couple of wires together in your case.

Glad you’ve resolved it, please buy something from Amazon as you leave – we need to pay for all this somehow!

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

    Dave,
    It’s a magnetic pump motor that’s being replaced………

Re: Ariston LI 62 Detergent flap not opening

Almost certainly a solenoid failure – you need a test meter to certain. If you can’t do it, engineer time – check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW engineer in you area.

Power off if going further yourself.

The spare is a replacement assembly BTW, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get things moveing for you.

    Re: Hygena AHY 8122 Fault

Dead door switch or broken wiring in the door would be a good bet. Power off if you’re going to investigate. Failing that check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

If they stopped the blatant profiteering on spares prices, there’d be more money in the pot to pay us a sensible rate and improve the appalling BER rate on cheap appliances.

You’re all bonkers. Tilt the machine sideways – 10mm ratchet drops in sweet as you like, plenty of room to work, off down the road in no time.

LMTGOWI – I hope you’re fitting blanking grommets into the gratuitous holes.

    Cheers,

We keep meeting……. The pump will revolve in either direction, totally at random, and doesn’t actually matter – if you are going to strip the assembly down again, you will notice that the pump chamber is symetrical, thus allowing the water to be ejected regardless of which way the pump actually turns.

Quite seriously, considering everything that you have tried, it almost has to be a faulty pump motor – there is nothing left!

Re: Positive(+) beats Negative(-) every time!

This may be a little radical….

If you are newcomer on this site and get trade access, it’s a damn good read. The tone of UKW is crucial IMO – discussions are open, frank, humurous, helpful. Advice is freely given, thanks are regularly received. I cannot see that a contra position in a discussion is in itself negative, as Kev says, “If we all agreed, we’d have nothing to talk about”.

However, there is little evidence to show the structuring of the site, the heirarchy of command and responsibility, UKW Ltd behind the site.

We need to make the position MUCH clearer in order for our average Jo to understand what is going on. I would not suggest that Ken changes his designation from “site admin” to “God”, but why not “Director” or even “MD”? Kev, DC and Sean to “Director”. This is no longer a standard, free wheeling semi-anarchistic forum site like so many others, this is a professional outfit, with business leadership, backing and goals. This side is poorly presented in the current site set up.

New forum perhaps – UKW Ltd? Outline of aims for the site, members, projects – anything that rams home the message that we are serious, organised and set on business footings.

Better still, change the whole layout of the thing. Punter logs in for a look at why the dial of his Indesit W is clunking round and is presented with what are currently the Public Forums, he can have a look. If he wants to post, he’s got to sign up – box says “Are you a member of the Trade?”. He isn’t, so gets to post in the Public Side of UKW. There is no need for him to even be aware of the trade side of the site. However, if we sign up Bloggs Domestics, he can choose when he logs in to enter the Trade or Public side of the new UKW site. Much cleaner and avoids confusion.

We have (I hope!) some money these days, so what I suggest may not be impossible. If we do it right we can free up space in what I suspect would become two interlinked sites, allowing each to run without worrying about random fallingoverness.

The site itself is the key to everything that we’re trying to acheive, so in some ways getting this right is the crucial point. Presentation is the next one from the professional position. Separate the XML to each half and the Public need not even be aware that the Trade side even exists. However, the effect of “UKW launches own appliances” as a headline in the Public Forums will be far more dramatic than the latest bit about whether Wpl is going to buy Maytag or not.

Overall, I think we’re going the right way. I can’t see that any sort of debate in itself can be negative. What I do think is that emphasis and clarity from postings, positions and posters is essential to the light in which we are viewed and that longer term a review of the entire site’s operations will be essential to our future.

Oh, don’t change my “moderator” status to “Hairyopinionatedshortarsewithpoweroflifeanddeathifyoudon’tsaypulltheplugfirst”. It probably won’t fit in the box.

Re: Welcome To A New Way Forward

I’ve probably sold one in January; nice young couple who just HATE their WMA. Nothing wrong with the damn thing really, just doesn’t give them what they want; not to mention my regular visits for all the usual niggly faults. PCBs, wiring, d/int, blockages, p/sw hose, valves – they’ve had the lot. Except bearings. This evenings discussion led to replacement being discussed – most of you know I like Bosch, then threw in “Of course, we’ll have our own in January”. Seminal moment maybe? I suspect this was the Whitegoods version of 20 questions, answered most of them and they’re not going to Comet on Saturday…….

    See how it pans out.

Not true – the importers fitted “UK Spec” kits to the basic Russian model to bring them to a UK saleable standard. This included wheel trims, seat coverings, radio/cassette and the like. Ironically enough the parts removed went back to Russia as spares.

Also worthy of note is that once a month a ship sails out of Hull, taking old Ladas back to Russia for reconditioning, seeing as ours have had so little use!

Can we send the Chinese dishwashers back once a month? Or at least tip them off the end of the quay……
