Think I’ll just settle for the 10 million squid – just about a lifetimes supply I would guess.

    Night,

Got an “x” in the part number? It’s a Brandt…….. £20 odd on Connections, so everybody will pay less……. Have a word with Dave Conway in the morning, he’ll know where to find it.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

    Re: Hotpoint, Kenwood, or neither?

You’ve set yourself a good price point, so there is a reasonable selection of appliances to choose from. The Kenwood will be a badge job – they don’t make the appliance, so you will be paying a premium over the base machine it’s derived from. The Hotpoint may well be from the Creda factory, in which case it’s OK, or it may be from the Indesit plant, in which case the previous comment applies.

For the budget, you can afford to look at the Bosch/NEFF range, there are a couple of AEG’s which drop into the price mark, not to mention the usual suspects – Creda, Zanussi and Whirlpool.

Don will probably be on-line in the morning and be able to give you some more detailed info, but a bit of food for thought for now.

I assume at the time then that Hotpoint were sponsored by Austin Rover? Would make sense in the light of what happened.

Dat’s why I asked for the piccy of the old pump – the label is just about legible if you blow it up a bit – 50Hz.

“Sump hose” – connects the bottom of the drum to the pump housing inlet. If it sags down (instead of running evenly downhill), it is possible that the hose can droop below the level of the pump housing inlet – this will airlock the pump, so whilst it is running, it won’t move anything. Obtusely, dropping the hose into a bucket will allow the weight (or head) of water to force its way through and out.

    Re: Margherita Filter Access

The filter is being jammed in place by the foreign object which has come down the sump hose into the filter chamber. Removeal of pump and stripping is the only option.

    Power off please :plug: .

If you are not confident, check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

    Re: Recommended Listening

The original band was called Straight Jake, it evolved into Resistance. SJ produced one album, now sadly only available on cassette to order. PM if you really want an hour of folk-rock. Resistance produced a four track EP of rather heavier, darker stuff, loaded with intense harmony. The Mrs may be persuaded to operate the CD burner if you’re interested.

According to an ex-fiddle player, the album has been boot-legged and we’re quite big in Albania 🙄 .

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Re: Help on old Zanussi washer

Been pondering this a bit. Your sound clip suggests that your pump motor is making a clicking noise, before evening out as the water disappears. I think you need to remove the motor from the housing and check that the impellor is properly attached to the shaft. When turned manually, it should resist and then “ping” 4 times a revolution. If the impellor does not resist, it probably has broken the drive dog and is therefore faulty. The other possibility, which happens occasionally is that the pump simply does not get up to speed and will not pump.

Not much else it can be really, UNLESS the sump hose is drooping below the inlet of the pump chamber, in which case an air lock is a distinct possibility. This was a well known and regular fault on Hoover washers some 15 years ago when the new type pump was first fitted.
